Stirling's Scribbler's Picnic patron Jack Bruce dies Katy Whitelaw, secretary of the Scribbler's Picnic charity music festival held in Stirling, said: "It is with great sadness that we have heard about the death of one of our patrons Jack Bruce who passed away at the weekend. "Jack, who was a former bass guitarist in the legendary band Cream, kindly supported the Scribbler's Picnic charity. He even paid us a special visit many years ago to play a set at the festival. It was a magical day which delighted those who saw him. We later found
out months after the festival that he had been suffering from cancer himself during that time. He had a wonderful creative spirit and spent a lot of time speaking to fans that day at the festival. "The Scribbler's Picnic family of volunteers send Jack's family our condolences. They are in our thoughts at this sad time. He will live on forever through his music." Friend of Jack and Scribbler's Picnic chairman, Ted Christopher, said: "I am so sorry to hear the news that my old pal Jack Bruce has passed away. So many great memories. One of rock's greatest ever musicians and great fun to be with. My heart now goes out to his wife Margrit and his kids. "It is a sad, sad day for music. It was a real privilege to know him."

Southern Fried Festival picks up Best Small Festival at Scottish Event Awards Horsecross Arts staff are celebrating after the Southern Fried Festival picked up the Best Small Festival award at the Scottish Event Awards.
Music Southern Fried is organised by Horsecross Arts, the creative organisation behind Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre. Now going into its eighth year, the festival offers three days of the very best in Americana, covering all the roots music bases from blues to bluegrass, soul to country, rock and gospel.
Andy Shearer, festival director of Southern Fried, which is now going into its eighth year, said:
www.southernfriedfestival.co.uk http://twitter.com/#!/SouthernFriedPH
“Since its launch in 2008 the Southern Fried Festival has grown in terms of the range of music we offer, artists we attract, and audiences we entertain. Winning this award is a fantastic endorsement for the festival, for all at Horsecross Arts, and our incredibly loyal Southern Fried following who come from near and far; as well as all the established and emerging acts who perform on our stages.
Plans are already in hand for next year’s Southern Fried Festival that will take place from 31 July until 2 August 2015.
www.facebook.com/pages/Southern-Fried-Festival-Perth/125505404138682
“The festival is constantly evolving and this year, with the support of Perth & Kinross Council we added an outdoor stage to the line-up of venues. The Salutation Hotel stepped in to host our Late and Southern Fried shows and afternoon gigs. Both proved popular with performers and audiences alike. “With two thirds of the Southern Fried Festival audience coming from outside Perth and Kinross, the festival has a real positive economic impact on the city and we look forward to seeing it continue to go from strength to strength in the years to come.” Andy Shearer

the T in the Park receives mns prestigious greener festival collection …. award for the seventh year Festival organisers DF Concerts and founding partner Tennent’s Lager are delighted to announce that T in the Park has been hailed as one of the greenest festivals in the world for the seventh year running by environmental campaign and advice group A Greener Festival. T in the Park is the largest festival in the UK - and the only major UK festival – to win a prestigious A Greener Festival Award this year. T in the Park has been honoured in recognition of DF Concerts’ continued commitment to minimising the environmental impact of the festival and its efforts in promoting environmentally friendly behavioural change within the T in the Park audience. The festival also achieved a commended status. The prestigious awards are presented to festivals with meaningful and effective environmental policies and practices in place to deal with traffic and transport, greenhouse gas
emissions, waste and recycling, water conservation, noise pollution, ethical policies and environmental protection. Each event is inspected by one or more independent environmental assessors. The efforts of T in the Park organisers to make the festival more environmentally friendly include various fan-focused initiatives such as the hugely popular Citizen T - an audience manifesto which encourages binning litter, recycling and tent re-use. Fans are encouraged to take their cups to special cup recycling points situated around the festival site and receive a 10p deposit in return, and festival-goers are also encouraged to use public transport to travel to the festival to help reduce the event’s carbon emissions. Geoff Ellis, Festival Director, said: “We are exceptionally proud that T in the Park’s environmental policies continue to be recognised as some of the best in the world. We are committed to minimising the environmental impact of T in the Park and are delighted to receive A Greener Festival Award for the seventh consecutive year, as well as achieving commended status. T in the Park fans have once again played a huge part in this achievement, and we’re very grateful to them for embracing initiatives like Citizen T, and for their continued support and efforts in recycling and tent re-use.” Earlier this month, T in the Park announced that its significant economic impact to Scotland rose to almost £15.4 million in 2014. Locally, the event continued to generate more than £2.7 million for Perth & Kinross.
