Withered Hand, Found, Kid Canaveral, Jo Foster and Wounded Knee are all performing during the 2013 Cupar Arts Festival and there's also some great music sessions taking place at Castlehill Hall in the evenings throughout the festivals twelve. Cupar Arts organises the biannual Cupar Arts Festival, which is a festival of contemporary visual art, with the programme also including music, workshops, and artists talks.

album, recorded in Summer 2013, scheduled for release in early 2014. Dan will be bringing a new look Withered Hand band to Cupar for a rare romp through his back catalogue and beyond. Singer songwriter and musician hailing from Fife, Jo Foster plays piano and guitar and is known for her melody rich songwriting. Drawing from a variety of influences, Wounded Knee (Drew Wright) plays a sort of punk-primitive acoustic folk, and is an experienced performer on the Edinburgh and Glasgow live scene.
In their continued exploration of experimental pop music, Found have landed somewhere in between the wiry, electronic strains of Kraftwerk, the strident pop songs of Nirvana and the glitchy, schizoid sounds of Sessions at Castlehill Hall include The Coaltown Daisies, Seven Sons Warp Records. Edinburgh’s biggest multi-venue music festival Haddowfest is back for its fourth year but this time it’s not just on the traditional Sunday as it's now a two day festival taking place on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th October.

8 stages : 30 acts : 4 days of top quality music in Berwick-upon-Tweed Frontier Festival takes its name not just from Berwick’s border location, but from its organisers’ desire to pluck the best music from the very frontiers of folk, indie, Americana, rock and electronica and showcase it across the town. Being only an hour down the road from Edinburgh or a 40 minute trip on the train the festival really is worth the journey. Organisers Alan Thompson (Travelled Music) and Hamish Bell (Corner House Productions) have put together a superb line-up of professional touring acts to play alongside the very best of local and regional talent. Alan Thompson said: "We took our inspiration from boutique festivals such as Eye o’ the Dug which was held in St Andrews earlier this year. It showed us that a small town similar in size to Berwick could utilise its best venues to bring some different sounds and sights to music fans. Saturday 12th has the shows I just can’t wait for! We’re using the Gymnasium Gallery at The Barracks again this year and we have three brilliant acts in there at 6pm – Berwick’s own Electric Penelope, who last year sold out the Maltings main stage, plays with a raft of new songs and old favourites. She’s put together another top-class band for this gig – expect more soul, jazz and 60s pop inspired brilliance in the Gym. What a setting – great venue! King Bees will provide Blues/skiffle sounds from the 50s with the excellent singer/songwriter Craig Jeffrey starting things off. At 9pm in The Maltings (Henry Travers Studio) we have my personal highlight – Lanterns on The Lake. We had to pull out all the stops to get this act as they are really moving up in the music world, signed as they are to Bella Union. Their emotive, swirling, indie sounds are proving irresistible to gig-goers all over the world and we’re so pleased to have

As Hamish said, the people of Berwick are so keen to come along and support this festival venture and experience world class music on their doorstep – it really means a lot to us!" Hamish Bell added: "Through running Travelled Music and Corner House Productions respectively, Alan and I both have long experience of staging gigs locally, nationally and internationally. We feel we have combined some old favourites with some new and exciting future favourites. It’s a great chance to get everyone in the town together and start to build a world class festival in Berwick. We’re so excited to be presenting these bands in Berwick - the line-up this year is of a truly fantastic quality, and eclectic – there’s something for everyone! Why travel to T in The Park or Glastonbury when we have a music festival right here featuring bands who play at those very places! Thompson (Ordinaryson). I saw AMWWF earlier this year in Edinburgh where they packed out the 500 capacity Pleasance Theatre and absolutely took the rafters off, the crowd were ecstatic! Their sound is derived from upbeat folk, blues and country all blended in with an inimitable Celtic twist and cracking on-stage banter. Coupled with Rob Heron’s hooky gypsy jazz and hokum blues sound, this is a world-class line-up as heard at all the major festivals. And it’s right here."

Donald J Makin is a presenter at Radio West Fife and the 'Oxjam Gigmaker' for Dunfermline. D Rocks for Oxjam is part of October's countrywide Oxjam Festival to raise funds for Oxfam for their work in emergency support and developmental work in developing nations. It is a one-night festival feast of live music at PJ Molloys for only £5 on the door with a 6.30pm start. A year ago, Donald started his radio show as a volunteer on Radio West Fife, with the original plan being to play new music for 2 hours on a Saturday from 79pm in D’s Saturday Night Session. Since then, local bands have regularly come on the show to play a few tunes and have a chat. Discovering that the Oxjam Music Festival were looking for gigmakers to run free local gigs to raise funds Donald stepped up to the mark, arranging with PJ Molloys a venue. Seven bands and artists who had appeared on Ded Rabbit headline D Rocks for Oxjam 'D’s Saturday Night Session' were www.facebook.com/DedRabbit happy to support D Rocks for Oxjam vision offered to play for free for Oxjam to maximise the return. Twohundredby200 also provided poster design and Nexus Signs printed for free to support the event. For those that don’t know, the Oxjam Music Festival is held every October to raise funds for Oxfam by running 'Takeovers' - one day music festivals- and one off gigs in towns. It's all done by volunteers and all the funds raised go to Oxfam. Oxfam is a charity that raises funds for emergency work- for example the humanitarian crisis in Syria- and developmental work- for example building farms in Africa. The aim of Oxjam this year is to raise £575000.00 for Oxfam- a big target but Donald's event is part of around 3000 events all over the UK! The line-up is; from Dunfermline, there is Rachel McAlpine, Dave McNeil and ANIMALATTIC. There's blues - Jed Potts and the Hillman Hunters and, indie punk guitar-band Phantom Brake Pedal from Dundee. This Silent Forest will be playing a acoustic set specially and our headliner is Ded Rabbit bringing their funky fast guitar sound from Edinburgh. The biggest music event of it's kind in Tayside is to be held on the 19 October, with 5 Dundee venues hosting live acts, from indie bands, acoustic artists, DJs, reggae acts and more - this years event will be the largest yet in Dundee's participation in the nationwide Oxjam Music Festival! The live acts appearing are: Drenched, Nick Cheyne, Melophobia, The Un-Romantics, Fluorescent Fields, Courtneys Chain, Foxbeef, Average Andy, Sierra Madre, Room 7, Atom Tan, THE RAG N BONE MAN, Charlotte Brimner, Vertical Lips, Eilidh McGuire, Blind Mattie, We Seek Brightness, Shoogar, Kings and Cowards. With support from the following DJ's: Twisted Kaleidoscope, Roo Adamson (Correlate) and Bicci & Zander The venues for this year's Oxjam will be open from 1pm and they are: The newly refurbished Underground Nightclub. And two of Dundees best live music bars, Duke's Corner and Clarks Bar To participate in this years event you'll need a wristband, which can be bought from the various venues and during our pre-event fundraisers, along with proof of age as some of the venues have age restrictions for those under 18. Wristbands are priced at £6 for students, and £8 for adults. The wristbands will also allow you to get some great discounts along with other fun stuff. All proceeds go to the great charity, Oxfam, which is helping to eradicate poverty across the globe. With the help of this festival, money can be raised to help families all over the world. So whilst you have a great day listening to the best local talent around, you'll be helping out a great cause. As a fundraiser Dukes Corner will have fantastic live music and entertainment on Saturday 12 October, check their facebook for details. Festival organisers are welcoming visitors to the festival and locals to try out new activities, visit somewhere new or explore a different part of the region. Dougie MacLean OBE explains: “Perthshire is such a wonderful region, the landscape is stunning and the history is fascinating, the heritage, culture and the strong sense of community are all things that combine to make it a very special place. I grew up in Perthshire and although I travel the world performing, home is very special to me. I discover new things about the region all the time, so even if you live in the area, I recommend using the festival as a great excuse to discover more about your home county. So many of my songs are inspired by the natural beauty of the area and I want to share that with our festival friends. We don’t just want people to come to a concert and then leave, we want them to really experience the festival atmosphere and get involved!”
Highlights of the Discoveries Programme include: SONG BUS: The SongBus is a musical journey which travels through beautiful parts of Perthshire that are of special musical importance... The passengers are looked after and entertained along the way by some fine musicians brought together by festival favourite, host Ewen Sutherland. There will be lots of singing on the bus, a little walking and a picnic lunch. There are two Song Bus dates 28 Oct and 1 Nov they are always prove a popular part of the line-up.

As the crowds line the streets, around 25 decorated barrows will be led through the streets of Dunkeld by the Pitlochry & Blair Atholl Pipe Band and meet at The Cross for judging and some entertainment from community choir MUSIC WORKSHOPS: Feeling inspired by all the musicians? Visitors can come and get information from Amber Central of some self-led walks in the Dunkeld area and there are also some wonderful guided walks in the programme. Visitors interested in archaeology can join the Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust walks at Queens View and The Black Spout. There are also walks for those photography enthusiasts where an autumn ramble can be combined with some photography hints and tips from our experts.

Scottish Album of the Year Award winner RM Hubbert has been added to an already stacked festival line-up at The Spree in Paisley this month. ‘Hubby’ will join his Chemikal Underground label mates, Emma Pollock and Miaoux Miaoux, in a special performance with the Cairn String Quartet on Friday 18 October. The Spree is returning after a successful debut in
2012. This year, it will run alongside the Royal National Mòd, Scotland’s premier celebration of Gaelic culture and language, on its first-ever visit to Paisley. RM Hubbert won the 2013 SAY Award with his album ‘Thirteen Lost & Found’. It was described as having; “evocative solo pieces nestled alongside spontaneous and experimental collaboration”. The result is eclectic and beautiful; featuring voice, percussion, violin, piano, accordion, vibraphone, gu zheng and, above all, Hubbert’s extraordinary guitar playing. His follow up album, Breaks & Bone, is an entirely solo effort, notable for the inclusion of Hubby’s vocals on each alternate song. It’s an album of hair-raising beauty and no little emotional clout. Breaks and Bone is also the 200th release from the seminal Glasgow label, Chemikal Underground and so is a landmark release in every conceivable sense. The Spree’s musical line up is Scottish, contemporary and creative. It includes a unique performance from Admiral Fallow and The Twilight Sad who will appear along with The Royal Scottish National Orchestra in the spectacular setting of Paisley Abbey. Rachel Sermanni, Capercaillie, Donnie Munro and Horse McDonald will all play another uniquely glamorous stage in the Spree’s Spiegeltent. There will be comedy too from Craig Hill, Fred MacAulay and the Stand Comedy Club. RM Hubbert will take the place of Oregon band, Loch Lomond, who had to pull out of this year’s Spree due to unforeseen circumstances. BBC ALBA TO SCREEN DAILY COVERAGE OF THE 2013 ROYAL NATIONAL MÒD FROM PAISLEY BBC ALBA will broadcast daily programmes from this year’s Royal National Mòd as it is held in Paisley for the first time in its 121 year history. The Mòd, organised by An Comunn Gàidhealach, is the Gaelic community’s most prestigious festival celebrating cultural heritage, Gaelic language, music and arts. Produced by BBC Gàidhlig and presented by highly acclaimed singer and musician Mary Ann Kennedy, BBC ALBA will be broadcasting five programmes showcasing the best of the festival from Monday 14th to Friday 18th October.
The BBC ALBA programmes in October include: for singing. Radio nan Gàidheal will also be at the Mòd to provide live broadcasts of many of the week’s events – including the ever-popular Mire ri Mòir cèilidh on Friday at 10am – and live coverage of the Rural Choirs on Thursday from 1.30pm. The choirs will be competing for the Lorn Shield and the Sheriff MacMaster Campbell Memorial Quaich and BBC ALBA will also feature the choir winners on the same evening.
The run of shows includes live coverage of the one of the most prestigious moments of the festival – Thursday’s Traditional Gold Medal Final The latest news, interviews and regular updates throughout the week will also be provided for viewers and listeners with news teams from An Là on BBC ALBA and Aithris na Maidne and Aithris an Fheasgair on BBC Radio nan Gaidheal reporting from across the festival.

Music Video Competition Launched The FilmG team were at the Loopallu Festival in Ullapool recently to launch the music video category of this year’s FilmG competition and showcase films from the first five years of the competition. Singersongwriter Dòmhnall Eòghainn MacKinnon (pictured) was in attendance to promote the music video category in which he won a number of awards for his entry in last year’s FilmG competition.
Dòmhnall Eòghainn MacKinnon who performed at Loopallu on the Friday evening, said: “It is a great idea to add music videos to the list of film genres as it provides an opportunity for storytelling across platforms, encouraging collaborations between songwriters, musicians and filmmakers.” He added: “Winning the FilmG Music Video Competition last year has given me the confidence to continue developing my skills as a filmmaker.”

Amongst the performers will be the winners of the main singing competition for learners, the James C MacPhee Memorial Medal. Amongst the successful performers will be the winners of the main prize of the day, An Comunn Gàidhealach Silver Medal. Wednesday 16th, 10.00pm – 11.00pm: Mary Ann Kennedy and special guests recount favourite Mod moments along with song performances from some of today's competition winners. Thursday 17th, 7.30pm – 9.00pm: Live coverage of the traditional gold medal competition for singing from the Royal National Mod. Live coverage will also be simulcast on Radio nan Gàidheal. Friday 18th, 10.00pm – 11.30pm: Coverage of the main choral winners of the day will feature from the final concert of the week. FilmG Project Manager Flòraidh Forrest believes this year’s FilmG theme, ‘Rùn – Love, Intent or Secret’, lends itself well to making Gaelic music videos, she said: “‘Rùn’ is a common theme running through many existing Gaelic songs, you only need to Google the word and you’ll uncover lots of songs that use rùn, usually in reference to love. We hope that many people take inspiration from Dòmhnall Eòghainn and decide to have some fun and try their hand at creating a short music video.”
