At the Festival Club you can share a pint or ten with the guests, and pick up the odd trick of the trade. But as Ullapool regulars will know, the real buzz of the club comes from the spontaneous (and sometimes unlikely) combinations of various musicians that take place. There will be some intriguing duos, trios and quartets coming
together in the early hours, and we can anticipate the usual mix of guitar pyrotechnics, Elvis singalikes, and terminally-bad jokes. What more could a guitar head want? Join the Perfect Picnic at Perthshire Amber as the festival celebrates Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink. Festival-goers are in for a tasty treat at this year’s Perthshire Amber which takes place 30 October – 8 November. In addition to the fantastic musical line up featuring 17 concerts, the festival has an extended fringe programme ‘Amber Discoveries’, which is packed with foodie delights to celebrate the Year of Food and Drink. The festival hub is the charming village of Dunkeld, where festival goers will find the box office, Cabaret Amber, Open Mic Sessions and pub sessions throughout the festival.

As a result of that a unique Perthshire Amber Decorated Wheelbarrow Parade - Sunday 1 culture has grown up around the picking of berries in this area. The Tolbooth’s annual indie and progressive music festival returns with Admiral Fallow and United Fruit heading the 2day multi-stage event.
Hosted by The Tolbooth over the 20 and 21 November, Strange Behaviours Festival welcomes in 22 of Scotland’s most original and compelling indie/electronic/alternative acts, spread over 3 stages across the entire venue. Since last year’s inaugural festival, the monthly Strange Behaviours nights have seen celebrated bands such as PAWS, Machines In Heaven, Jonnie Common and Stanley Odd visit Stirling, all building up to a diverse and expansive festival this November. Over the two nights, big names in Scottish new music including Admiral Fallow, United Fruit, Siobhan Wilson, Man Of Moon, Happy Meals, CARBS and The Winter Tradition will play sets, alongside more progressive, avant-garde and grassroots acts.

Excellent singer/songwriter and no stranger to the Glasgow Americana Festival, Danny Schmidt makes a welcome return for this classy Saturday matinee. Danny’s latest album, Owls, is a subtle and atmospheric collection of fresh songs that include full-out band efforts mixed with humble and reflective tracks. All are hugely satisfying and enjoying airplay in the States and here. Support for the afternoon session comes from Betty Soo who has pulled in positive reviews for her albums, including her fourth and latest release, When We’re Gone, with critics comparing her exceptionally, well-arranged songs to the likes of Patty Griffin and Alison Krauss. She writes beautifully about heartbreak and sorrow but brings to the mix an edginess and warmth that demand attention. This is a great opportunity for Festival fans to hear two performers with excellent songs to share. Balmaha’s Braw Weekend is a set for family fun, amazing food & drink plus live music on the banks of Loch Lomond on 3 and 4 October, for what is set to be a very special festival. The fun starts at 11am on the Saturday 3rd with free admission, plus plenty of free parking. Don’t worry about the weather, most of the festival is indoors, or under cover. Although if they get nice autumnal weather you should expect some incredible views as it's on the banks of Loch Lomond! The main stage will feature free live music and entertainment throughout the day, including local musicians Linsey Aitken and Ken Campbell, plus the Loch Lomond Ukalele Orchestra who will be performing. Renowned local ceilidh band – The Well Plaid Ceilidh Band will also be entertaining with a highly interactive show. Over the weekend there will also be free food and
drink master classes and cookery demonstrations hosted by some of the guest producers. Onto Saturday night and the party continues until midnight, with beer, whisky and some excellent live music. There's four excellent music acts performing live. They are: MICK HARGAN (7pm – 7.40pm): Drawing on inspiration from artists and bands like The Gaslight Anthem, Pearl Jam, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen Johnny Cash and The Frames, Hargan’s charismatic lure really takes a hold of his audience during his live shows. THE ZIPS (8pm – 8.40pm): Pacing the floor at punk’s birth in the 70s, splitting up as it was overtaken by Ska and New Romantics in the Eighties, and reforming due to European bootleg interest in their back catalogue in the Noughties, Glasgow’s, The Zips, are making up for lost time. DAVE ARCARI (8.55pm – 9.35pm): Slide guitarist & songwriter Dave Arcari’s alt.blues sounds owe as much to trash country, punk and rockabilly as they do pre-war Delta blues and have been showcased via eight internationally-acclaimed solo CD releases. The festival is now in its 8th year and takes place in three highly intimate venues over three nights in the wonderful setting of Kinlochard in the Trossachs. The concerts offer an expo of bagpipe, accordion, strings, fiddle, vocals and flute music fusing traditional and contemporary Scottish styles. Each night differs from the other Celtic Connections but both include a blend of great music for Glasgow everyone with a mix of folk, modern and 14-31 January traditional styles!
