Doricana Fest organisers are delighted to announce that the festival is partnering with 'Mackies of Scotland' for their first festival, and have said "It’s an honour to share the stage with one of Scotland’s finest family businesses". They've also been carrying out a little cow experiment up at Mackies too! Colin Clyne's been up to visit the Mackies dairy cows to perform a few acoustic songs for them. Also, they’ve been listening to Colin's two albums on a non stop loop for a few weeks. The milk yield during this period of time will be noted and we shall find out if ‘Country Music’ (Doricana) improves milk yield in dairy cows…….watch this space! “Doricana Fest”, takes place at Stonehaven Town Hall on October 8 starting at 4pm, and it's jointly spearheaded by local award winning Americana singersongwriter Colin Clyne and Almost Blue Promotion’s head honcho Martin Raitt. An Evening with Chip Taylor as Glasgow Americana celebrates 10th Anniversary Glasgow : 5-9 October : www.glasgowamericana.com Buy tickets @ www.glasgowamericana.com Chip Taylor, rated as one of America’s finest singer/songwriters and masterful performers, is gracing this year’s 10th Anniversary Glasgow Americana Festival with a one-off show. One of the pioneers of the pivotal country-rock movement in the 70s and the man who wrote massive 1960s hits, Wild Thing and Angel Of the Morning, he plays the Classic Grand on Friday, 7 October.

Chip Taylor :: www.facebook.com/Chip-Taylor-40438231724

Chip, who’s visited the city many times in duo format with Carrie Rodriguez, gave up music for full-time professional gambling in 1980 but eventually returned to the business. His latest album, Little Brothers is due out this year and follows 2014’s brilliant, The Little Prayers Trilogy, which is a unique collection of new songs over three albums, ranging from stark demo recordings in his garage studio to fully fleshed out roots rock duets with Lucinda Williams. Over the years, Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin and Dusty Springfield recorded his songs while many critics readily put him in the same star category bracket as Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Guy Clark and Willie Nelson. “Chip Taylor has long been a major presence in the music business, whether writing or performing, and to be able to bring him to Glasgow for our 10th Anniversary festival feels just marvellous,” said Kevin Morris, the Glasgow Americana Festival director. “This is a brilliant opportunity to see and hear a true legend.” GIGnotes ..... With only a few days to go, the final wraps have been pulled off the 2016 Loopallu line up… including an appearance by one of our finest home grown talents who make their Loopallu debut; Fatherson. A band that know all about the slow build. It’s there in the band’s backstory – they’re young men, barely into their twenties, but their tale together is old, stretching back into a shared childhood. And it’s there in the trio’s music – beautiful, emotional, uplifting, well-wrought songs that take their time to do their magic.

Fatherson have been striking a resonant chord with crowds at home in Scotland these past three, four years. Two singles, ‘Mine For Me’ and ‘I Like Not Knowing’, from the band’s 2014 selfreleased debut album, ‘I Am An Island’ secured national support and airplay from Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, Zane Lowe and Greg James. There was an unexpectedly packed-out show in the 12,000-capacity King Tut’s tent at T In The Park that same year. In November 2015 the band launched the first single ‘Always’ from their second album ‘Open Book’ (out now), securing further support at Radio 1, Radio X (Shock of the New) and Absolute amongst others. Ross Leighton tries to make sense of the magic that occurs between this band, their music and their fans: “If you build a family around what you do, that seems to carry you along. HebCelt Hailed By MSPs After Most Successful Year Stornoway, Lewis :: 19-22 July 2017 :: www.hebceltfest.com Buy '2017 Early Bird' HebCelt tickets @ www.hebceltfest.com/booking/

MSPs have congratulated organisers of the Hebridean Celtic Festival for the most successful event in its 21-year history. The four-day festival’s 18,000 attendance figure was the biggest to date. It was the highest grossing festival in terms of sales, with tickets selling faster than at any time before and most shows were fully booked weeks in advance. The festival also staged more than 70 hours of performances in the main arena, at An Lanntair arts centre in Stornoway and in rural venues in Lewis and Harris, making it the biggest programme ever, while onsite trading hugely increased on last year. Highlands and Islands Labour MSP David Stewart has now tabled a motion in the Scottish the HebCelt website Parliament acknowledging the success. The motion, which “acknowledges the massive boost that this event has given to the fragile island economy, and wishes all concerned every success in the planning of the 2017 event”, has been signed by a number of fellow MSPs.

..... and remember all the staff and volunteers, without their hard work no festival would exist .....

Festival director Caroline Maclennan said: “This year’s event was an outstanding success and we are delighted all the hard work by so many people to make it work has been recognised in this motion.” Scottish rock legends Runrig brought the festival to a close on Saturday night with a memorable concert which keyboard player Brian Hurren said was one of the top gigs the band have ever done. The Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Hayseed Dixie, Astrid, Julie Fowlis, King Creosote, Eddi Reader, John McCusker and Breabach were also among the line-up of stars that thrilled the international audience. Over the four days Stornoway and the surrounding villages were crammed with visitors from across the UK, Europe, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, filling hotels, guest houses and campsites in the area. Nearly half the audience came from outside the Hebrides, demonstrating again the festival’s importance to the tourism industry, with non-UK visitors making up six per cent of the total. Early Bird tickets for next year’s festival - to be held from 19-22 July 2017 - are now on sale via
