Glasgow's celebration of Beethoven festival Glasgow : 27-29 September : www.glasgowmusic.co.uk
Beethoven :
the mns collection ….
Glasgow Music is delighted to announce the launch of a new three year series of weekendlong mini-festivals by the new Artists in Residence, the Elias String Quartet and pianist Llyr Williams.
Each September from now until 2015, they will perform two complete cycles of Beethoven’s string quartets and piano sonatas in conjunction with a series of talks, workshops and encounter sessions get to the heart of Beethoven’s masterpieces. The festival runs from Friday 27 September to Sunday 29 September and will be the first time the Elias String Quartet and Llyr Williams have performed together. No strangers to Glasgow, these outstanding performers will take audiences on a profound musical journey from Beethoven’s earliest to his latest works. Covering three decades, the programmes opens with Beethoven turning 30 and ends with one of the very greatest Late Quartets, dating from 1825.
Key Festival Highlights include: The Tempest and the Harp – music from the 1800’s when Beethoven was in his 30’s in Vienna. Waldstein and Rasumovsky – here Beethoven challenges everything that meant ‘music’ in his own time. John Deathridge is one of the world’s leading Beethoven experts and opens this first Beethoven festival with an insight and overview of the works we will hear. Guided walk with a historian exploring parts of Glasgow that date to Beethoven’s time.
