Having recently celebrated their 10th anniversary, Edinburgh’s Broken Records return in 2018 with the release of their fourth studio album entitled ‘What We Might Know’, released 30th March. After a decade of solid US and European touring, two albums on the legendary 4AD label, the band re-united with producer Stephen Watkins (PAWS, Teen Canteen) and the result is a set of eleven songs deliberately stripped back to recapture the chaotic energy of their earlier work, and the ecstatic live shows the band are known for. In support are Aberdeen’s The Little Kicks.

The melodic indie outfit’s latest LP, ‘Shake Off Your Troubles’ (March 2017) propelled them once again to the fore, riding a wave of critical acclaim and BBC Radio airplay to such highlights as Vic Galloway and Janice Forsyth live sessions, playing Sofar Sounds alongside The National, and crossing the pond to play as part of Canada Indie Week. Joining them are one of the brightest prospects from Stirling’s grassroots indie community – The Cobalts. ’60s Psych and garage influenced indie rock n roll, with a generous serving of Beatles-esque harmonies and pop sensibility. Not to be missed. Music Development Officer at the Tolbooth, Kenny Bates: “This month’s Strange Behaviours delves into the world of indie and rock n roll story-telling, with acts that have honed their sound through influence from many of rock n roll’s greats. Broken Records are known for their anthemic songwriting, but with this new latest record you can hear the driving, soulful, peoplefocused musing of Bruce Springsteen start to emerge. Likewise, local 4-piece band The Cobalts pack a load of Lennon/McCartney style vocals and guitars into their writing, with something altogether more Pink Floyd in some of the song structures.”

THE GOLDHEART SISTERS: At Crail Town Hall, 8pm. £10. Gold Heart, featuring the Gold sisters Tori (mandolin), Jocey (guitar), and Shelby (fiddle) have been touring worldwide and astounding audiences with their fun personalities, intense harmonies and brilliant musicianship since 2005. Joined on stage by their father, Trent on bass, and their brother, Kai on banjo, this is an outstanding act in every sense. With eleven years on the bluegrass scene, hundreds of live performances and now four albums under their belt, Gold Heart is elated to join Mountain Fever Records. Family harmony is considered one of the staples of bluegrass and acoustic music. There is nothing like it, especially when it is set against a backdrop of superb musicianship. Such is the case with Places I've Been, the new album from Gold Heart. If the lilting, three-part, sister harmony doesn't put a smile on your face, the youthful originality of the songs, chock full of fresh ideas and melodies, will. In fact, all twelve songs on Places I've Been were written by members of the talented Gold family. This is an album full of their original songs proving that they have rounded out their talents in every aspect of the business. For Places I've Been, the sister-trio asked their good friend and mentor, Ron Stewart to produce and also lend his banjo talents to the project. The album is a true listening experience, with topics of family, love and heartbreak intertwined throughout the album. These young artists are expert songwriters, with Jocey and Shelby contributing the majority of the band’s impressive material. At age fifteen, Jocey was one of three finalists of 983 contestants in the 2008 Chris Austin Songwriters Competition (bluegrass category) at MerleFest. The work of the sisters can also be heard on their previous recordings, My Sisters and Me, Never Let Go and Journey to Heaven's Bright Shore. Tori, Jocey, and Shelby exemplify why acoustic music has a very solid future. They give God the glory and credit Him for their talent and inspiration. In the hands of young musicians, singers and writers such as Gold Heart, it can't miss.We aim to provide a quality guest list with the emphasis on entertainment.
