The emotional honesty in his songs shines through as he sings about people and places, love and regrets, drawing favourable comparisons with the likes of Springsteen. Gary Innes auctions off winning strip worn on stage for Runrig’s ‘Last Dance’ and signed by the band to raise money for Youth Shinty

GIGnotes ..... www.garyinnes.com/live-dates/ * Gary has lots of gig dates coming up both with his on 'ERA' band and Mànran, check the link above for details or do a 'search' in this GIGguide as all are listed.

Highland born accordionist and founding member of Mánran, Gary Innes had the honour of joining Scottish icons Runrig as part of their ‘Last Dance’ finale shows in Stirling last weekend to perform as part of their famous Shinty song ‘Clash of the Ash’. Gary was the front-cover image (see below) and poster boy for Runrig’s penultimate album, Everything you see, in 2007 [wearing a Taynuilt Shinty top!] and has subsequently joined the band on many occasions to perform ‘Clash of the Ash’ since first taking to the stage with them in Drumnadrochit in 2007, 11 years to the day of Saturday night’s final gig (18th August 2018) While on-stage both nights Gary sported his No.9 Scotland captain Shinty strip that he wore at the last-ever Scotland win at Croke Park as part of the 2010 Shinty/Hurling International Meet. When the fireworks closed Saturday night’s gig Gary asked each of the band members to sign the strip which they all were more than happy to do as all proceeds from the auction will go to Scotland’s Youth Shinty and Development. Gary said: “Performing with the lads as part

of the ‘Last Dance’ on Friday and Saturday night was a complete honour and two of the most special gigs I have ever been part of in my life. It’s thanks to my shinty career that I was chosen to be a small part of Runrig’s journey, so I wanted to give something back to the sport and I thought auctioning off my no.9 shirt from our win at Croke Park in 2010 and asking the band to sign it might be a good way of doing that. I have to say I was completely blown away by how popular it’s been so far! It will be brilliant to be able to donate all of the money raised to helping the sport I love continue to develop and grow.” It was at the 2010 Shinty/Hurling International Meet that Gary suffered a broken nose and cheekbone, thanks to the inimitable swing of one of the Ireland’s alltime best Hurling players, Mr Tommy Walsh – winner of 9 consecutive all-stars. Gary still went on to score 7 points though and Scotland enjoyed their last win at Croke Park to date. The strip went up on Monday, 19 August and within the first few hours bids had raised to £600. The bidding is open until Sunday 26 August and all money raised from the auction will go to Scotland Youth Shinty and Development.

Hailing from Berlin, Germany, Stony Sugarskull (Landon Reed/bass, Reid Murray/drums, Monika Demmler/vox, guitar) play a gorgeously haunting and hypnotic psychedelic rock that is both mysterious and hugely enigmatic. Her ghostly sound is right at home with the likes of The Warlocks, The Vacant Lots and Mazzy Star, as it invokes images of things like a peyoteinspired séance in a dark, candle strewn urban attic or an aimless wander through a moonlit desert at three o’clock in the morning (Record Crates United). Her unique vocal style and delivery is not only playful, innocent, ironic, and clever, but also serious, even spiritual. It’s very distinctive – a kind of detached arty Velvets thing happening (Happy Beat Recordings). www.facebook.com/stonysugarskull/ 4 SEPTEMBER RUBY BOOTS: At ABC2, Glasgow. !!
