And there will be laughs from Gregor Fisher who’ll celebrate the 40th anniversary of Scotch & Wry by paying homage to the late, great Rikki Fulton and his best-known alter-ego, the Rev I.M. Jolly. Des Clarke also joins in the fun with his own hilarious take on the events of the past 12 months. It wouldn’t be Hogmanay, of course, without some traditional tunes and BBC Folk singer of the Year Karine Polwart will perform live on the Old Fruitmarket stage. A very special arrangement of Dougie MacLean’s Caledonia will be included in her line-up, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the touching ballad’s release. Karine will also take to the stage for the annual rendition of Auld Lang Syne with Hogmanay Live favourites Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain. Over in Edinburgh, Bryan Burnett will be broadcasting live from the Mound for BBC Radio Scotland and will be hooking up with host Jackie to give a flavour of the capital’s celebrations, including the legendary street party and live coverage of the spectacular fireworks that light up the skies on the stroke of midnight.

EARLE, GRETCHEN PETERS and IRIS DeMENT. www.bbc.co.uk/radioscotland An Iolaire: Sal – IAIN MORRISON: 10.00 – 11.00pm on BBC ALBA. Scottish musician and composer, Iain Morrison, is from the Isle of Lewis. He has collaborated with artists Dalziel and Scullion on a performance to commemorate the Centenary of the Iolaire Disaster. This performance of original music - called Sàl - Salt Water is part of a season of artistic works commissioned by the Lewis Arts centre, An Lanntair in Stornoway, to commemorate and remember those that were lost. HMY Iolaire ran aground only yards from shore on the Beasts of Holm at the mouth of Stornoway harbour. 205 returning servicemen lost their lives. It was New Year's Eve 1918 and the men were returning from the Great War. Like many on the Isle of Lewis, Iain has a personal connection to the tragedy. His great-grandfather John was lost on the Iolaire. He was 44 years old at the time. Dalziel and Scullion are known for their work with photography, video and sound, exploring ways to connect with the subjects of environment and ecology. With selected performance highlights, an interview with Iain is also interwoven in to the programme narrative as An Iolaire charts his journey. Together they have created a work of real beauty - emotional, raw and truthful, to mark this singular event. www.bbcalba.co.uk
