page 5: 'scots in london' :: edinburgh + mid - east - west lothian from THE HONEY ANTS: At Borderline, London. Colin MacIntyre – who releases under the pseudonym ‘Mull Historical Society’ – is one of the UK’s most respected songwriters & performers. A multi-instrumentalist, programmer and producer, he is now also an Award-winning novelist, 2016 sees MacIntyre release his seventh MHS album to date: ‘Dear Satellite’. So far he has achieved two Top 20 albums and four Top 40 singles. “Colin MacIntyre’s ability to wrap textural complexity and shard-filled lyrics in pop coatings endures. Pop needs more of this.” The Sunday Times http://mullhistoricalsociety.com/ 12 JULY DAVE ARCARI: At The Blues Kitchen, Camden, London. SLIDE guitarist & songwriter Dave Arcari’s alt.blues sounds owe as much to trash country, punk and rockabilly as they do pre-war Delta blues and have been showcased via eight internationally-acclaimed solo CD releases. Two US tours in 2015 – including official showcases at SxSW in Austin, Texas – built on the foundations laid over successful US tours in 2013 and 2014. A new set of recordings is scheduled for release over an EP and an album in 2016. Seasick Steve said: “Dave plays like he got his skin turned inside out and pretty soon my skin was inside out too listening and it was all good. That boy bleeds for you – he a real down deep player and a soul man…” www.davearcari.com 31 JULY ADAM HOLMES AND THE EMBERS: At Green Note, Camden. Following on from the great response to their new album ‘Luxury Hobo’ Big Boy Bloater and The LiMiTs will be embarking on a full UK tour in support of it. With a fascination for textures and subtle narratives Luxury Hobo sees Bloater in a tougher, deeper and more expressive mode following a bout of depression in 2013 which has led it to take a lot darker and personal tone. Having always self-produced all his own records, this time he enlisted the ear of Adam Whalley to help bring out what they produce live and it brings the production quality to the next level. www.bigboybloater.com 21 JUNE HANNAH ALDRIDGE with LILLY HIATT: At Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh on her ‘Summer Europe Tour’. Two fiery and talented chips off old blocks, but these daughters are doing it for themselves. There are few artists that can truly encapsulate the essence and true range of Americana like Muscle Shoals artist Hannah Aldridge, whose musical pedigree precedes her and speaks for itself. She is the daughter of Alabama Music Hall of Famer Walt Aldridge, one of the most prolific songwriters of the modern musical era, including no. 1 country hits for Ronnie Milsap, Barbara Mandrell and Travis Tritt among others. East Nashville firebrand Lilly Hiatt describes her music as the majesty of melancholy, accepting the sadder aspects of life and finding some peace in them. Singing in a barbed lilt full of deep worry and gritty determination in equal measure, she conveys emotions too finely shaded to be easily named,
