TchaiOvna House of Tea, 42 Otago Lane, Glasgow. Free. Time 8pm. DAVE ALVIN & PHIL ALVIN WITH THE GUILTY ONES; It took a near-death experience to reunite Dave Alvin and Phil Alvin, the California brothers at the heart of "roots heroes" (Rolling Stone) The Blasters. "Phil died and was brought back to life over in Spain," Dave says of his brother's 2012 health scare. "That was a real wakeup call to me. We hadn't made a full album together since 1985, but as you get older, you realize you're not immortal and you've only got so much time." It’s a real coup for promoters, The Fallen Angels Club especially with the brothers’ current album – "Common Ground: Dave Alvin & Phil Alvin Play and Sing the Songs of Big Bill Broonzy" – going down a storm. This is the Californians’ first collaborative effort in 30 years and their first as brothers as opposed to being members of The Blasters, which Dave quit in 1985 to pursue an illustrious solo career. The brothers are widely recognised as real mainstays of the roots/rock genre, separately or together – so this gig promises to be something rather special. Brew at the Bog

Orkney Folk Festival

Inverness 2 May 2015

Orkney 21-24 May

Super earlybird tickets have already sold out! Next batch of tickets go on sale in October! Brew at the Bog is BrewDog and Bogbain Farm’s gift to the world: a festival full of new music and new beer. BrewDog are the leaders of the craft beer revolution and they are about breaking rules, taking risks, upsetting trends, unsettling institutions but first and foremost, great tasting beers. As one newspaper put it, BrewDog is the new black. Bogbain Farm is based just outside Inverness and was crowned the “Best Unusual Venue” at the 2012 Scottish Event Awards. Brew at the Bog is just the latest in festivals Bogbain is hosting and the fabulous surroundings of this old farm will ensure Brew at the Bog 2015 will go down in history.

Here we are folks – Orkney Folk Festival number 33! Once again we have some big names coming north to join in the fun in May, and from the ceilidh bands to the almost indie strand, we have brought together a broad mix of artists that we hope appeals to everyone’s interpretation of the increasingly expansive folk genre. As ever, our local traditions and musicians – both established and emerging – will be centre stage alongside those visiting the festival.

The Festival as the UK's most northerly folk festival is regarded a prestigious event for performers, locals and visitors alike. Organised by a voluntary committee (and run by an even bigger pool of volunteers) the Festival prides itself in reaching out to even the most far flung areas of Shetland. Concerts are organised throughout the isles, consisting of some of the best International, British and Shetland music that the world has to offer. In fact, visiting artistes are regularly dumbfounded by the quantity and quality of www.brewatthebog.com local musicians that our remote isles have to offer.

Styrathyre Music Festival Styrathyre 24-25 May Styrathyre Music Festival can boast of being the largest Community based Music Festival in Scotland with over 250 individual Musicians taking part and despite challenging weather had over 1600 attending.
