Dean Owens :: 14 October :: Eden Court Inverness "Scotland's most engaging and haunting singer songwriter" - Irvine Welsh

A very special gig, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the passing of Scottish troubadour Dean Owens' great great grandfather, lion tamer and travelling circus owner Ambrose Salvona (who came originally from north Italy, allegedly accompanied by a dancing bear), who is buried in Tomnahurich Cemetery, Inverness. Anne Fraser at High Life Highland (who have taken it on as a special project) are trying to track down as many of his descendants as they can. The story first broke a couple of years ago, following Dean's performance of his song Dora (about Ambrose and family trees) at Southern Fried Festival in Perth. High Life Highland have been working on it since then, and have come up with some interesting new information. BBC Radio Scotland Time Travels show featured the story recently @ www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b096skzz And here's the link to 'Dora', the song that started it all @ https://soundcloud.com/dean-owens/dora High Life Highland also have some special (free) events during the afternoon of the 14th, including a gathering of Salvonas at 1pm, followed by a trip to the gravestone, with a Salvation Army band (who were part of Ambrose's original funeral procession). Any Salvonas around Scotland should get in touch with High Life Highland (there's a special price for the gig tickets too, if you're a descendant of the lion tamer!) and get themselves along. Dean will be accompanied by some special guests, including his old Felsons bandmate Kevin McGuire, on double bass.

Dean: "You never know what's up there, up there in the family tree!" 2017 is turning into quite a year for acclaimed Scottish troubadour Dean Owens. He was delighted to return to one of his favourite cities – Nashville, USA – in September 2017, as the first Scottish musician to be invited to officially showcase at the prestigious Americanafest (organised by the Americana Music Association). His trip was supported by PRS Foundation’s International Showcase Fund and the Saltire Society. His new CD Southern Wind (also Nashville recorded) will be released in Feb 2018, on At The Helm Records.
