He picked up an accordion for the first time at the age of 8 and has never looked back. The programme for this year’s Blas Festival has been launched and revealed an outstanding line up of musicians from Scotland and further afield as well as some exciting opportunities for budding young musicians and composers. nFollowing a Ceòl nam Fèis showcase concert featuring 100 young musicians under the musical direction of Capercaillie’s Donald Shaw at the Spa Pavilion in Strathpeffer on Friday 14 September, Blas will culminate in an enormous concert at the Northern Meeting Park in Inverness on Saturday 15th.

Glasgow Americana has lined up ten gigs featuring overseas and home-based acts for this year’s five-day-long festival. The onstage action for the 12th Glasgow Americana will take place at six city venues from October 3-7. Fans will be able to enjoy two gigs on Festival Friday, three on the Saturday and the Sunday, including a trio of matinee performances, plus two album launches.

After a successful Edinburgh’s Hogmanay 18 which saw festival goers snap up all tickets to events across the 3 days, and terrific feedback on the revamped Street Party, Underbelly today announced tickets for this year’s Edinburgh’s Hogmanay will go on sale at 10am on Monday 21 May. Recognising the importance of support from those who live in the city, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is discounting 10,000 tickets for EH postcode holders, twice the number of last year.
