Campbell and Vass will perform the score to The Dead Stations in the project’s launch tour, which culminates in a performance at the Queens Hall in Edinburgh. In the live piece, Campbell sings and plays viola and Vass plays tenor guitar and violin. “I’m really proud of how the songs have turned out,” said Vass. “Mairi was the obvious choice for the songs and for this project. Vass and Hathaway first worked together creatively on the Remembered/Imagined project in 2013, which saw composers and writers pair up to create a new work that was performed by Mr McFall’s Chamber.

Scottish Opera’s primary schools tour FEVER! is back by demand Back by popular demand after multiple successful tours, Scottish Opera’s FEVER! will be rehearsed and performed by thousands of primary school pupils across Scotland.
behind other Scottish Opera offerings for young people such as The Undersea World of Bubble McBea (2008) and Revolution! (2009). Schools are provided with high quality teaching resources, including a teachers' support pack to help introduce the songs from FEVER! to pupils in advance. A team of performers and arts education specialists then spend a day rehearsing and preparing the pupils for a choreographed, full-costumed performance of FEVER! for parents, friends and schoolmates. The show follows a young boy who becomes ill with a mysterious disease. His doctors desperately try to find a cure. Meanwhile, members of the press rush to the hospital, clamouring for a big story. With the possibility of a worldwide epidemic, all they care about is the scoop. As the doctors try to calm the situation, a possible cure is discovered and injected into the boy, and that’s when the story really takes off.
FEVER! takes pupils on an exciting journey, learning the benefits that Created especially for children in biomedical science offers humanity, primaries 5, 6 and 7, the show features music by Alan Penman and looking at the basic mechanics of lyrics by Allan Dunn, the same duo the human body, and exploring the impact of press and media on
today’s society. FEVER! is designed to help teachers deliver core elements of the Curriculum of Excellence such as social studies, history, technologies, literacy and citizenship. Scottish Opera’s Director of Outreach and Education, Jane Davidson said: “Our annual Primary Schools Tour is one of the longest established programmes at Scottish Opera – every year around 10,000 children see or take part in these performances. This year, we have brought back the ever-popular FEVER!, a production that gives pupils not just the chance to perform, but also to learn more about the process of putting an opera or theatre performance together. We aim to give students the chance to explore their creativity, build confidence, develop new skills and most of all have a great time doing all of that.” Scottish Opera’s annual Primary Schools tour began in 1974 and is the longest running of any of Scottish Opera’s Education and Outreach projects. Scottish Opera’s Education and
Outreach Department was the first of its kind of any opera company in Europe. It operates an extensive programme which involves over 10,000 primary school children every year, as well as many other activities including adult learning and free Unwrapped taster sessions.

Throughout the rest of the city musicians participated in an incredible first weekend of concerts and events – as the beginning of the 18 incredible days making up Celtic Connections 2016. 2,500 world, traditional and roots musicians from countries around the world have gathered for concerts, ceilidhs, talks, art exhibitions, workshops, free events, late night sessions and a host of special one-off musical collaborations on 26 stages across Glasgow. More than 1,200 children saw the first of the festival’s free morning concerts as part of Celtic Connections’ award winning Education Programme. Pupils from across Scotland – including school groups from as far away as Dunoon, Fife and Ardrossan – came to the Main Auditorium at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall to enjoy a fantastic set of traditional music by two-time winner of Scots Singer of the Year Siobhan Miller and her six-piece house band. For many of the children this will be their first experience of seeing a professional band live. The Opening Concert for Celtic Connections 2016 saw The Carrying Stream, celebrate the 50th anniversary of the pioneering and hugely influential Traditional Music & Song Association of Scotland (TMSA). A stellar line up of Scottish singers including Arthur Johnstone, Sheena Wellington, Jimmy Hutchison, Barbara Dickson, Shepheard, Spiers & Watson, Kris Drever, Adam McNaughtan, Mischa Macpherson and Malinky, along with international guests Sam Lee, Thomas McCarthy and Rayna Gellert took to the stage of the Main Auditorium. Led by musical director Siobhan Miller, the show sought to capture the unique spirit of TMSA concerts that have been a hugely important part of her life, and the lives of thousands of musicians across Scotland. During the same day, The Chieftains and special guests including John Sheahan and Declan Ò Rourke took part in 'Ireland 2016' which took place as part of the Culture Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme. Glasgow three piece the Errors played on home turf at the O2 ABC last Saturday evening, while Canadian roots fusion combo The Duhks made a hugely welcome return to Celtic Connections at their Saturday night concert at the Old Fruitmarket. Sunday night’s concert brought together Malian Kora soloist Toumani Diabaté, whose music is built on a 700-year tradition, with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in one of many unique collaborations featuring throughout the festival.

Down The Line
Igor Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring Open Airs Album cd / download Release Date: Out Now
Album cd / download Release Date: Out Now
Down The Line is the new album from Glasgow-born singer/ songwriter Johny Corrigan. It is the much-anticipated follow-up to Johny’s acclaimed debut Inchfad Drive, released in 2013. The album consists entirely of self-penned songs and Johny has recruited an impressive line-up of artists for the recording.
This stunning reworking for jazz octet of Igor Stravinsky's masterwork retains all of the themes and most of the exquisite orchestration of the original composition. Improvisational sections appear organically out of Stravinsky's score, allowing band members to be featured as individual soloists as the piece unfolds. With personnel drawn from Scotland, England and Germany, this international group is a world-class ensemble, completely at ease with each other and this incredibly complex music.
Open Airs is a musical log book of travels in Norway, Ireland and Scotland. In 2011, Norwegian musician and composer Kyrre Slind quite his job, bought a banjo and hit the road on a Vespa 125 scooter, heading for Ireland. Four years later - rich in new experiences - he releases his first solo album, recorded in Scotland and Norway. The melodies describe landscapes, impressions and personalities encountered when travelling the great north and its islands.

Summerland are a hard-gigging band that are delighting ever larger live audiences with their songs of love and loss, longing and rejection. Sophie Armstrong, a shepherdess working in the wilds of Northumberland by day, has an extraordinary voice that soars, yet offers vulnerability and clarity too. At her side stands Gary Shearer, a guitarist of impressive ability whose musical tastes know no bounds. Together they’ve crafted a set list of original, heartfelt songs. This is music that is both contemporary and timeless.
David Altair releases his fourth album entitled ‘Movies’. This album is more beat driven than his last mainly instrumental albums. The album has an ambient and progressive feel to it drawing on inspiration from Boards of Canada. David has released the album for download on Bandcamp. The cover art is by James Abell with fonts by Douglas Mackay.

Shattered Echoes
In Praha
July Moon
Foxbeef: Powerful, melodic, hard rock with grunge sensibilities. Foxbeef released their début album Shattered Echoes on the 27 June, 2015. The drums were recorded at TPot Studios in Kinross with Robin Wynn Evans, whose credits include The Manic Street Preachers & The View. The band took on the responsibility to record and produce the rest of the album themselves, working as hard as they could over the course of a year to get the album to a place that reflected the bands personality and energy.
Paul Mellon (Guitars): This is our second single of our debut EP which we aim to release this autumn. In Praha is a song about 2 people falling in love in Prague. The main riff was inspired by Here Comes Your Man by Pixies and the solo is my own very poor imitation of / homage to Nels Cline's solo in Impossible Germany by Wilco. Some have called it catchy.
July Moon is the second studio album from singersongwriter Alistair Ogilvy - a strong collection of selfpenned material released on his own label and recorded at CHEM19 studios. Alistair was determined to push some genre boundaries while focusing on varying themes of love and loss, poetry and nostalgia. Louis Abbott from Admiral Fallow produced the album and it also features Karen Mathieson from Capercaillie on guest vocals. This new release is sure to gain him new admirers and open up exciting opportunities.

IAIN MORRISON
TIM DALLING
Even Song
EAS
Eve's Bonie Squad
Electric guitarist, re-imagining jazz, folk, rock and choral music. Born in London, Steve Garrett has lived and traveled across the UK, Antartica, Canada and California, and now calls Scotland home. His music springs from a lifetime of influences from diverse sources and performances. Even Song include songs of loss, longing, inspiration by landscape, resolution and hope. The reflective mood mirrors the fading light at the end of the day. Composers range from the 16th Century through folk and the 1980s to contemporary European jazz, with some original compositions. Arrangements bring out the full resonance of the guitar, sometimes backed by loops recorded in real time.
It is never easy for a son to follow in the footsteps of a famous father, so Iain Jnr chose not to. He gave up the world of solo piping and went on his own musical journey. But what he was taught in his formative years is deep within him and this album is a definite attempt at some kind of filtering of the music of his hinterland. There is also a story present, sometimes a rocky one, of a father and son's relationship formed through a rich tradition and an art form that is deeply important to their culture and to both of them personally. There is a mixture of all these elements in this album and Iain Morrison is an artist who is following his own path, wherever that may take him.
Tim is a song-writer and performer who has been described as a cross between Ivor Cutler and Randy Newman. And now that The New Rope String Band is calling it a day Tim is ready for a new solo career. This album is a collection of songs that celebrate a joyful and urgent humanity recorder with guitarist Ian Carr and bassist Neil Harland. Audiences are once again warming to a man with a very special gift who entertains with a passion, superlative musicianship - and humour.
