Instructions for playing “Constant� The pianist begins the piece. Each additional player waits his or her allotted time before beginning his or her patterns. When a player enters, he or she must start on a downbeat, but not necessarily at the beginning of the pianist's measure. Each pattern is to be repeated between five and seven times. The patterns may be played in any register, but once a register is chosen, it must remain the same until moving to the next pattern, whereupon it may or may not change. In ending the piece, all players but the pianist must remain on the final pattern (#10) until all players have reached that pattern. At this point, players will repeat pattern #10 seven times before going to the final measure, where they will hold the note until the pianist is on his or her final note. The pianist will repeat his or her last pattern until all other players have reached their final pattern. The pianist will then repeat his or her final pattern one last time before proceeding to the final measure.
