About the Work
English translation
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us.
And after this exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
My admiration for Francis Poulenc has led me to compose this piece inspired by his homonymous work, Salve Regina.
It is a composition that follows my personal style, but reproduces some techniques and ideas reflected in the French composer's score, such as the word painting in 'lacrymarum valle', the move to the major mode in 'eia ergo', the diminished seventh chord in 'et Jesum', the broken sighs of 'O Clemens, O pia' or the style of 'complainte' that incessantly repeats the text 'O dulcis Virgo Maria'.
As befits the text –interrogative and imploring – the work is dramatic and deep , and harmonically very intense.
Salve Regina was premiered by NEOVOCALIS, conducted by myself, on 22th March 2024 within the LAUS ET LAETITIA project.

About me
I am an active choral composer, arranger, director, and a professor of Improvisation based in Valencia, Spain. Choral music has been my passion since my childhood. I started my musical training in my hometown as a chorister at the ‘Escolanía de la Virgen’ The training of those years still influences my compositions (which are mostly sacred) and arrangements for choir and piano. In 2003, I founded the all-professional chamber choir, NEOVOCALIS, which specializes in contemporary choral music. The ensemble has premiered most of my compositions under my direction.
