Trondheim - byen med verdens nordligste synagoge - mistet en rekke jøder i Auschwitz. Blant dem var den 13 år gamle Cissi Klein, som kan representere dem alle. Cissi ble anholdt på skolen høsten 1942, internert sammen med andre jødiske kvinner og barn og kort tid etter sendt til gasskamrene i Auschwitz. Trondheim - location of the world's northernmost synagogue - lost several Jews to Auschwitz. Among them was the 13-year-old Cissi Klein, who can represent them all. Cissi was taken from her classroom in the autumn of 1942, interned along with other Jewish women and children, and shortly after sent to the gas chambers at Auschwitz.
Transposing instruments are written in C in the score. * Towards the end of the piece six musical boxes are included in the score. The three cellists and three bassists sitting closest to the audience operate a musical box each. The musical boxes have a handle, but no resonance box. The musicians therefore use their instruments as resonance boxes, placing the musical boxes on the instruments lid, close to the bridge. The musical boxes are marked with a number, which corresponds to the numbers in the score (p. 60). The musical boxes will be sent together with the parts. The violin introduction is a free version of the song S'brent by Mordechai Gebirtig, a Yiddish folk poet and song writer. S'brent became a popular song in the Krakow- and other ghettos. Gebirtig was killed by the Nazis in 1942.

They have a handle but no resonance box. The musicians therefore use their instruments as resonance box, placing the musical boxes on the instruments lid, close to the bridge.
