Air noise: Mute strings and use very light and slow bowing
PERFORMANCE NOTES
Scratch tone. Very heavy and slow bowing with no definite pitch.
Very heavy bowing still with some clarity in pitch definition.
Stem without notehead: The bow stays on the string but stops moving.
Bow in parallel with the strings on one side of the bridge (violincello and contrabass).
Play with normal bowing, but sul tasto or sul pointicello (not col legno).
"nat." sul tasto "nat." sul pont.
Gradual change from one technique to the other.
The Taiwanese tune Longing for Your Early Return by Yang, Shan-Lang appears at the very end of the work (Rehearsal mark DD/bar 849) with permission from The Coden Music Brokerage Limited, Taiwan.
