Four Seasonal Meditations is a selection of Rudolf Steiner’s 52 weekly verses, which aim to facilitate a felt experience of the natural and spiritual world. The Calendar of the Soul was originally written in German and published for the first time in 1912.

In accordance with the original intention of the calendar, the music is meant to enhance the experience of the seasons, and can be performed separately as well as collectively. For classroom or school choir use, the harp part can easily be replaced by a piano.

In 1985 philosopher and author Owen Barfield published the result of over 50 years of studying these texts, translating the entire calendar into English as The Year Participated, which serves as the foundation for the movements here presented.
