From 53-64 every bar there should be a change in S2 & A2 from one singer to the next on the right (choir's perspective), each of them singing a bar and joining the continious d again.Thus the sound of the wings moves from right to left (Conductor`s perspective) with pp<mf>pp. The effect must not show off too much but should be heard as the birds' mysterious passing by. If there are more singers than possible entries, the phrases can overlap by starting in the middle of a bar.
