Editor's Note: The present edition was prepared for my recording with the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra in August 2014 (Toccata Classics, TOCC 0260.) It is based on a set of orchestral parts in the composer's hand - it seems that he wrote the transcription, which was made in 2003, straight into parts, without making a full score. A number of textual anomalies emerged from the collating of this material which have been resolved with reference to the vocal score of the original motet, composed in 1947. (The vocal version is in A flat minor, but the composer transposed the work up a semitone presumably better to suit the new medium.) The only touch of orchestral detail which does not stem from the composer concerns the cellos between bars 25 and 38. The composer originally wrote this for the entire section, but during the recording sessions, I took the decision to make it a solo. This is shown as an ossia in the score, and in the part. Many of the dynamic and articulation details are editorial, since the composer wrote very little in his own material. The metronome marks are taken from the vocal score of the original version.
