This group project, consisting of three members including myself, involved choosing an Italian company to create a pop-up for, as well as a site in Florence to locate the pop-up in. The Kartell popup, located at Piazzale Michelangelo, was designed to showcase Kartell’s new furniture collection, specifically their Bolla chair reupholstered with recycled materials. The pop-up is located next to the primary point of entrance to the site, and is also small enough to not take away from the intention of the site and the Statue of David. Additionally, the pop-up’s curtain wall faces northward, allowing visitors to have access to the view. With the concept verb ‘bridge’, a connection is drawn between the historical integrity of Piazzale Michelangelo, and the modernity of Kartell as a brand.
