LAST RAMADAN YOU WERE AMAZING YOUR DONATIONS IN ACTION Ramadan and Qurbani 2015 Update
“They give food, out of love for Him (swt), to the poor, the orphan, and the slave, saying: We feed you only for Allah’s (swt) pleasure - we desire from you neither reward nor thanks.” Al-Qur’an (76:8-9)

IT’s true, last RAMADAN YOU WERE AMAZING.
The charity you gave enabled us to serve some of the most deserving people across the world. Your donations brought relief, rest, health and sustenance to vulnerable and poor men, women and children. Those living in conflict-torn areas, abject poverty or affected by natural disasters. People who are in desperate need of some of the basic human necessities that many of us take for granted. Your donations didn’t just enable us to provide short-term aid, but enabled us to better serve these people by developing education and skills programmes. Things that will continue to make a significant difference to their lives for years to come and give them the skills to change their lives.
You gave them hope. You gave them a future. You are amazing.

SADAQAH JARIYAh “When a man passes away, his good deeds will also come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous charity); knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), Muslim.
The giving of charity is an act which defines us as humans and strengthens ties within our communities. To help another is to also help oneself with continuous charity that benefits both the donor and receiver. At Muslim Aid, we rely upon your donations to our on going projects to support some of the poorest and neediest of people.

Our vision is the alleviation of poverty, education for all and the provision of basic amenities for those in need. We believe in a world where charity and compassion can promote justice, self-reliance and human development.
We believe in giving hope.
MYANMAR (BURMA) The Rohingya people of Burma have nowhere to go. Without homes, access to education or the opportunity to earn a living, many innocent people remain trapped in a cycle of poverty and violence. Through darkness, shines hope. We are one of the few charities working in Myanmar. We remain steadfast in helping a community of people that the world has forgotten. But we couldn’t do it without you behind us, giving your support and donations to let the Rohingya people know that there is hope, and a future too.
Thanks to you we have been able to provide: • Skills training and livelihood support to over 30,000 people. • Healthcare and nutrition to 17,000 people including malnourished children and mothers. • Repair and home renovation to almost 100,000 people in need of basic shelter to protect them.
And we won’t stop there. Together, we can help them. 5
MYANMAR
SEWING CLASSES Our vocational training programme meant we were able to serve 120 women in Myanmar with a 3 months sewing programme, enriching their lives with independence and the OPPORTUNITY to build their own business. Your ongoing support enabled us to deliver a programme of skillsbased training that empowered women and provided the opportunity of building a future.
Lives turned around With regular sewing lessons complimented by business management and marketing training, we were able to provide 120 sewing machines and
6
resources so that these women could take their new skills forward and build a sustainable business. Following the closing ceremony, several local businesses came forward and committed to purchasing on a regular basis, the clothing made by participants.
rainbow family No child should be denied the right to education and a future. Our Rainbow Family project helps children achieve their full potential through regular support for schooling and resources, transforming their lives and the lives of their families.

rainbow family IN Africa Delivering aid to the many people in Africa who are in need of our help, has always been one of our priorities. Many hundreds of thousands of men, women and children suffer from poverty so severe, they do not know where their next meal will come from - or when it will be. Our child sponsorship programme in Africa has helped many children growing up in abject poverty – showing them that there is hope, happiness and people who will help them. The support you gave us last year meant that we were able to continue delivering aid to these children – but your generosity meant we didn’t stop there.
Last Ramadan, your donations enabled us to welcome new children to the programme in Africa. Children for whom the year ahead will now be one that they can look forward to and one where they can develop and progress, safe in the knowledge that they are supported.
We couldn’t have done that without your help. Thank you.
HOW YOUR DONATIONS WILL HELP OUSMAN CEESAY
ZAKARIA BAMBA
ALI RAMADHANI
Ousman is 12 years old and lives in Banjul, Gambia. His father sadly died in 2011. His mother is the sole provider of the family and earns a small income as a fishmonger. Before sponsorship Ousman’s mother could not afford to send him to school meaning he stayed at home. Since joining the Rainbow Family Programme last year, Ousman has enrolled into school and has been attending school regularly.
Zakaria is 14 years old and lives in Tonkolilli District, Sierra Leone. His father sadly died of illness in 2012. He has 3 siblings and is being looked after by his mother. Zakaria’s mother is in poor health and unable to work and provide for her children. Zakaria is in grade 5 and making good progress at school, sponsorship will ensure that he completes his studies and gives him hope for a brighter future.
Ali’s donor has been supporting him since 2008. He regularly donates Ramadan food packs for Ali and his family who live in South Africa. “Myself and the whole family would like to thank you for taking care of us during the month of Ramadan. We bought food for iftar and other stuff and our Eid was very nice. We didn’t have to think about anything except the prayer. We don’t have enough words to express our gratitude.”

HOW YOUR DONATIONS WILL HELP Due to your amazing donations, we have been able to support hundreds of children in Pakistan’s poorest regions and beyond, by providing stable, reliable support they can depend on. Following the 2010 floods, the mud houses of the area that Asma lives in were damaged and destroyed. She lives with her parents and 5 siblings and her mother suffers from a heart condition, meaning the little money that her father can make, is often spent on medicine and treatment. This left no money to send Asma to school and help her realise her right to education. Asma has been receiving financial support from our Rainbow Family Programmes since 2011, due to the amazing support of people
like you. Asma’s future is bright, knowing her daughter has the opportunity of a future, the stress and strain has been lifted from the shoulders of Asma’s mother. “I like to study and play games in school. My favourite subject is mathematics, as I like doing huge calculations. I want to become a teacher. I want to say thanks to my donor for their support. I buy everything I want from the amount they send to me. I buy books, clothes and shoes.” Asma Bibi, Southern Punjab, Pakistan.
PAKISTAN & SOUTH ASIA Last year, a huge earthquake hit Afghanistan, Pakistan and parts of India. The earthquake struck in October 2015 and measured 7.7 on the Richter scale. It was an enormous natural disaster, wreaking devastation on communities already struggling with poverty and political conflict. Hundreds of people died and thousands were injured. Many more lost their homes and livelihood. Your donations meant we were able to quickly be on the ground, delivering aid and comfort where it was needed most. In tough conditions, our staff were supported by your generosity to help a community afflicted by devastation and destruction.

pakistan
Teaching, Learning and Education for all. Your donations last year meant we were able to launch programmes in rural parts of Pakistan to tackle literacy rates and help lift people out of poverty through education. Thanks to you, we have been able to provide:
With male and female literacy rates well below 50% in some areas, poor school infrastructure, a lack of teachers or appropriate venues, as many as half of Pakistan’s children are out of school and limited in their opportunities for achievement.
• Building rent to open and continue schools
From the street to school.
• Parent-teacher consultations
With 5.5 to 6.5 million children out of school in Pakistan, it has one of the highest numbers of children out of school – many of whom resort to labour and working and living rough on the streets. 12
• School books, stationary and resources • Health screening and medical checks • Child protection training
These donations have helped us to support and develop 40 Primary schools and recruit 120 teachers.
Teachers who will be able to inspire and motivate the next generation of children. Children who are the start of a bright future – Thank you.
CAMBODIA
WASH PROGRAMME. During 2015, we used your donations to develop our Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Improvement Project (WASH) in Cambodia, helping families achieve and understand how hygiene and sanitation can improve their way of life. We promoted water sanitation through training and resources to over 5000 people, delivering safe drinking water and courses to help change habits to prevent the spread of disease. We worked with over 70 teachers and 2500 students to develop 156 WASH school groups and to help them understand the importance of hand washing, water sanitation and latrine usage. This knowledge was then passed through communities to give these families a better standard of health and empower them for a healthier tomorrow.
“Before Muslim Aid started support in my Village, I never thought about how water sanitation and hygiene is important for our health and I didn’t know how to use safe water for drinking. After I joined the Muslim Aid project, I learnt how to use safe water for drinking, how to clean the toilet and how to properly wash and clean my hands every day. I feel very happy about this project and I noticed most the families here now seem healthier and happier. I would like to say thank you to Muslim Aid for their support.” Mrs Man Noun, 77 years old, Sgoul Village, Cambodia. 13
GazA
WASH PROGRAMME. Our WASH programme has become international, with your donations, we could take our project to some of the neediest people in Gaza. With on the ground training we have delivered water sanitation measures, training and education. These skills have helped mothers in Gaza to look after their families and reduce contractible illnesses.
Thanks to your efforts, our WASH project helps to: • Improve sanitation • Decrease mortality and sickness rates from diarrhoea • Improve food hygiene • Increase school sanitation facilities and provide training
14
We have also been working with midwives to provide training and resources - to help them better care for the health of pregnant women and giving mothers and children a better chance at life.
Your donations have really made a difference.
Hope survives in gaza. Awad Maqqat is 24 years old and lives in Gaza. He is married with 3 children. Awad suffers from health problems that prevent him from working. Following the Huda Storm, his home, like many in the lower area of Gaza, was damaged, rising water causing his home to be regularly partially submerged and the buildings in the area began to sink.
Everyone deserves a home that is clean and safe. Due to your generous donations, we were able to visit Awad and others in his area to provide hygiene kits, blankets and basic amenities to improve their living conditions. We also conducted training sessions on water sanitation to help create awareness and to educate – meaning Awad and his family have the decent standard of living that they deserve. 15
GAZA we are here The Gaza conflict continues... but so does the help you gave. The aggression and violence in Gaza has led to thousands of people in desperate need of food and basic health facilities. Following the Israeli offensive of 2014 and the Huda Storm of 2015, more and more families are displaced, made destitute and plunged into poverty. Because of you and the donations you gave, we can show the people of Gaza that we care and that we haven’t forgotten them.
16
We continue to concentrate our efforts in meeting the immediate and essential needs of those living in Gaza, with food packs, medicine, shelter and clothing. Their need is on going and so is the support you gave.
Thanks to you, we are saving lives.
Delivering aid to the people of Gaza is just the first step. Providing the means for them to rebuild their lives and support their families is essential in the fight for a brighter future. For many people living in Gaza, to have everything taken away can be devastating and demoralising. When the home and resources that you have relied upon to support yourself and your family is taken away, every day can be a struggle just to survive. With your donations, we have been able to work tirelessly in Gaza to deliver aid where it is needed most. Not only have we continued to serve these people with basic food packs, medicines and aid, we have established links on the ground in Gaza.
Working with the United Nations we have strived to develop long term plans for rehabilitation for those living in the conflict. Partnering with social workers, teachers and hospitals we have developed projects to help rebuild communities and opportunities for people in Gaza and provide them dignity and hope once more. Ibrahim Morad’s family and livelihood was devastated during the military assault on Gaza in 2014. His boat and all the nets were damaged and he lost all possible means of earning an income. After being nominated for the Muslim Aid fishermen’s’
project, he was supported with a small boat so he is able to fish and generate an income once again. “I started to make a profit from fishing within a four month period. This period has improved my life, and my sons’ lives who also work with me, both on the economic and social levels. Thank you Muslim Aid for your support.”
17
BANGLADESH Bangladesh remains one of the most disaster-prone parts of the world. With fear and worry hanging over their heads, building a bright future remains bleak. With your charitable support, we have been able to develop programmes and projects to tackle this risk and benefit over 11,000 people in some of the most vulnerable areas.
18
Using risk assessment, implementing school contingency plans, distributing funds and cash grants, you gave and we have served the people of Bangladesh. And we will continue, with your support, to strengthen and develop homes, schools and opportunities, bringing hope to those in need of help.
Draw The Smile
Ramadan & Eid clothes project Our Draw The Smile project aims to do just that – bring some happiness back to those who deserve it most. To date, you have helped provide clothing for over 600 children in Gaza, for Eid. Riad Salah Saleh Joha is 48 years old and lives in extreme poverty. Due to suffering long term, debilitating illness he has been unable to work to support his family. His home was partially damaged during the Israeli assault, leaving him and his family in need of basic amenities, furniture and clothing.
“Muslim Aid drew the smile on my children’s faces. They provided us with what I could not get for my kids - new jackets, shoes , t-shirts, trousers, everything needed for them. It was really a dream, I was so happy and pleased to those people who supported me and raised the positive side of my children’s spirit. You helped them to play with their friends, go out, see others and show others their new clothes. Thank you.”
Thanks to you, the Draw The Smile project was able to provide new clothing and shoes for Riad’s children – giving them happiness and dignity. 19
SYRIA Close to 10 million people, many of them children, have been chased from their homes by the ongoing conflict. Wherever they are, we are there. Over 3.2 million Syrian refugees have been displaced across their country, to Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey and beyond. Their need is ongoing and worsening by the day and your emergency aid has helped us serve some of the world’s most desperate and disadvantaged people. • 7100 boys and girls have received basic clothing needs for winter • 2700 children provided with basic schooling to continue their education • 5000 Food parcels and school kits
20
Iraq Our field office continues to deliver life-saving aid in the face of adversity, violence and conflict. Our staff work bravely to deliver emergency aid to over 50,000 Iraqi people and provide them the care and compassion they need in such harrowing conditions.
We are by their side. Last year we helped 9,500 people with • Food packs • Blankets and mattresses • Heaters • Water purification tablets • Medicine, milk and baby supplies
Without your help, we simply couldn’t continue. 21
Eid Gift Programme Our Eid Gift Programme is one of the highlights of our services. By delivering sweets aNd gifts across the globe, your donations mean we have been able to provide many children with the chance to look forward to and celebrate Eid just like any other. Giving happiness, giving love. Reaching out to Afghanistan, Bosnia, Bangladesh, Gambia, Iraq, Lebanon, Kashmir, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka, you have ensured that Eid is truly an international celebration. Our Eid Gift programme has provided much-needed funds to some of the poorest families, gifted sweet packs and organised parties for children who have lost so much. Due to your amazing generosity, the children of our Ummah can experience the happiness of Eid. 22
“As we approach Eid, all my friends look forward to it but I am sad because my dearest are no longer with me. Your gift made me smile again –thank you!” Mirza, 14, Bosnia. “You can’t imagine how happy I am now! I bought clothes for Eid day and I can’t wait to wear them!” Anik, 16, Bangladesh. Thank you.
yemen Providing humanitarian aid to the people of Yemen remains one of our priorities. In a time when the aid efforts of many charities are questioned by the many Internationally Displaced People in a community who receive little support, your donations have been able to make a difference. Thanks to your donations last year, we were able to support the people of Aden with food vouchers, bringing relief and sustenance directly to almost 250 families. With the threat of war, a lack of security and safety directly affects many of those living in the area. But due to your generosity, our team were able to coordinate and work with local supermarkets and staff
to enable many men, women and children to receive the sustenance they so badly need. Your help gave us a chance to serve them in a way that allowed them to retain their dignity, to remove their worries and to recover some semblance of their normal lives. Thank you.
23
Qurbani Campaign Last year, with your help, we raised over 660,000 towards providing much needed meat for those in need, with our Qurbani campaign. What’s more, with that money we were able to provide 11,516 Qurbani portions. With over £84,000 worth of canned Qurbani being distributed inside Syria.
That’s huge. In fact, your generosity meant we were able to distribute much of the meat to those areas where things are really tough; with over £134,000 going to those around the world in the greatest need – once more meaning that you gave and we served.
24
From them and from us, Thank you. Our Qurbani campaign delivers fresh meat to some of the world’s poorest people. Not only does it provide them with vital sustenance and nutrition, it also gives them a chance to celebrate Eid Al-Adha.
UK Qurbani sadly poverty can strike us all. Thanks to your donations, we also continued to deliver fresh Qurbani meat to lowincome families within the UK who are struggling to feed their families. Last year, you raised ÂŁ15,000 to help those Muslims living in the UK who are suffering from the effects of poverty and low income.
The chance to receive Qurbani not only brightens their day but makes them feel part of the community.

Last year, you gave and we served. Your support for our Feed the Fasting programme reached over 197,000 people in 30 countries. You raised over a quarter of a million pounds in aid to enable us to provide nutritious, filling food to thousands of people. £250,648 was given by people like you, to people who were fasting in this amazing month of mercy.
And you didn’t just feed them for one day. 30
Your generous donations of £60 enabled us to provide a whole month’s supply of food for a family, lightening the load on their shoulders, taking away not only their hunger but also their worry. Your Feed the Fasting donations enabled them to fast during Ramadan.
That is amazing. Thank you.
“Whoever feeds a fasting person will have a reward like that of the fasting person, without any reduction in his reward.” (Tirmidhi)
Now it’s time to say thank you. Without you, we would not be able to help those who need it most. Muslim Aid would also like to express our sincere gratitude to those mosques and organisations within the UK who provide us with a network of volunteers. We are one community together and we wish each and every one of our supporters a blessed Ramadan.
