our region. During the past few years, we’ve made it our goal to simplify the physician referral process with one centralized Physician Referral Line - 304-691-5333 and bring you important information about our physicians in this annual directory. If you aren’t familiar with Marshall Health or are new to the region, let our 2017 Provider Directory serve as your guide.

Larry D. Dial, M.D. Chief Medical Officer Marshall Health

You’ll find that the team approach Marshall Health takes to caring for our patients is unlike any other in the region—working with both referring physicians and other specialists, as needed, to diagnose and treat patients close to home. The results of our initial patient satisfaction survey are listed on page 7. Please know that we welcome your feedback as well. As we look back, 2016 was a year of exciting growth and change for Marshall Health. There were more than 500,000 patient visits to one or more of our 250 health care providers in 2016, including nearly 55,000 new patient visits.*

Beth L. Hammers, M.B.A. Executive Director Marshall Health

In summer 2016, we launched a new department of dentistry, oral & maxillofacial surgery, offering general dentistry services for the first time to complement our new dental residency program. We welcomed Dr. Larry Dial, a seasoned physician with Marshall Health, into the role of Chief Medical Officer, and Marshall Eye Surgeons opened a second location in downtown Charleston. The upcoming year will undoubtedly be one of excitement as we open our new 51,000 square foot

J. Matt Straub Chief Financial Officer Marshall Health

office in Putnam County, W. Va., and add additional service lines related to addiction medicine. This growth is complementary to the educational, research and service missions of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine—the driving force that allows us to bring quality specialty care to the region. Throughout the year, you can always find the most up-to-date provider information in our Online Directory at www.marshallhealth.org. We look forward to partnering with you in 2017.

PATIENT SATISFACTION SURVEY Although we want patients to feel they are part of the Marshall family, patients are also consumers who have a choice in where to receive their health care. Marshall Health is proactively seeking out ways to improve the patient experience. Marshall Health implemented in 2016 a live telephone survey tool to issue follow-up telephone surveys to patients who receive care in our outpatient center following their visit. In the first six months of the survey—January through June 2016—patients completed 9,215 surveys. Marshall Health continues to administer the telephone survery on an ongoing basis and receives cumulative reports on a semiannual basis. Patients ranked providers based on doctor-patient communication, timely access to care, continuity of care, courtesy of staff and more. Overall, all departments ranked in the 91st percentile or above, performing above industry standards. As we move forward, Marshall Health continues to work to improve its performance in areas such as doctor communication and follow-up telephone calls as well as the implementation of advanced quality initiatives. We welcome input from referring physicians. For more information on these metrics, call 304-691-1720.
