We are more than a physician group.

We are Marshall Health. We are bringing more opportunities for advanced specialty care to our region, including Dr. Carlos Rueda, a heart failure specialist, and Dr. Daniel Beals, a pediatric surgeon, as well as specialties like neurology and mammography at Marshall Health - Teays Valley. This spring, we welcome Dr. James Gigantelli as the new chair of our department of ophthalmology. In addition to years of leadership, clinical and research experience, Dr. Gigantelli brings with him much-needed expertise in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery, orbital disease and ophthalmic oncology to our region. We are facing the addiction crisis head-on by bolstering our teams of primary care physicians, mental health professionals and the wraparound services that make recovery possible. Through dynamic partnerships with Cabell Huntington Hospital, St. Mary’s Medical Center, Thomas Health System and Valley Health, we jointly launched the Provider Response Organization for Addiction Care & Treatment (PROACT), a single-accessible addiction treatment hub, in October 2018. Just two months later, we teamed up with the Huntington City Mission to open Project Hope for Women & Children, a residential treatment facility for women and their children. We still have work to do. However, we’re making great progress, and we’re doing it as a community.

Joseph I. Shapiro, M.D. Dean, Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine

Larry D. Dial, M.D. Chief Medical Officer Marshall Health

Beth L. Hammers, MBA Chief Executive Officer Marshall Health

We are the region’s only academic health system. This means unyielded access to the innovations, research and expertise of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center. We have 23 clinical trials currently underway, including new studies on multiple sclerosis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a leading cause of liver disease. We are also supporting rural health providers and their patients. New telemedicine opportunities for high-risk pregnancy cases are now available to West Virginia providers through Marshall Health. And, our teleECHO™ sessions through the School of Medicine bring interactive discussions and continuing medical education (CME) to providers across the state. Finally, as we look to the year ahead, know that we are your health care partners—committed to addressing the health disparities and issues that impede patient wellness and working together for the health of our patients. We look forward to partnering with you in 2019.

J. Matt Straub, MBA, CPA Chief Financial Officer Marshall Health
