The Rowhaus The Rowhaus would be a business and innovation center to start up local businesses in the Third Ward. The center would help local residents to start businesses and get jobs, helping the neighborhood in fighting gentrification.

THE
RoWHaus
The Rowhaus is at the intersection of a historically commercial Dowling street and a quiet residential Truxillo street. The idea behind the project is the intersection of these two street types: commercial and residential. The project’s form is therefore derived from the iconic typologies of the same (Shotgun Row Houses and the Eldorado Ballroom).

The form is also integrated with spatial planning, where the residential typology contains private spaces, whereas the commercial typology conatins the more public spaces. In addition to this the form is used to implement systems such as energy generation and water conservation.

DAYLIGHT AND WORK Because the main use of the building was for working, the design makes sure that there is always daylight in all parts of the building year-round. The daylight penetration analysis shows the illuminance at 75100% of 28 footcandles, measured at 3 feet above the floorplate (worksurface height).

Understanding how the design would be realized was a major part of this project and so a lot of time was spent on detailing joints and the meeting of two materials.

THE TWO TYPES OF WORK There are two different types of work mindsets that dominate most people. Personal and Collaborative. Personal work is private and requires focus and attention. Collaborative work is public and requires openness and discussions and meeting with other people.
Collaborative workspace
WORKSPACES The types of work mentioned above also require two completely different kinds of spaces. Personal work requires a bubble that is private, where a person can shut out distractions and doesn’t have to deal with other people. Collaborative work however requires a space where a person can meet other people, scheduled or spontaneously.

Stop Motion Photography by Edweard Muybridge.
Stop Motion The study process started off with Muybridge’s Stop Motion Photography and how he used a series of images of the same scene to depict motion and tell a story. This lead to the understanding of motion as a series of moments in time, and the lower the interval of time between two images, the smoother the motion of capture.
Choros: A dance film
Heather Hansen: Emptied Gestures
In Motion In more contemporary research, Choros, in which A chorus of women emerge from the movements of a single dancer in a mesmerizing short film, and Heather Hansen’s Emptied Gestures which is an experiment in kinetic drawing (In this series I am exploring ways to download my movement directly onto paper, emptying gestures from one form to another), came to light.
Dance and motion are synonymous. When we dance, the body moves through space, each step or move is a combination of points in space. The intent was to explore this idea of movement through a series of sections, where the space is in motion as the human body moves through it. The investigation started out by exploring the dance of choros. Maret and his photography proved crucial to developing the design as it cleared the concept of human and animal bodies in motion through space captured at a series of intervals in time. Siteplan

SUNSCREEN The result of several weeks of analysis and designing by the Interior Skins class, Sunscreen serves as a demonstration on the capabilities of digital fabrication, spatial studies, and teamwork. Through the past, couple weeks, the class has been engaged in intensive research on the global form of the installation, the ideal component to allow visual performance, and material and fabrication studies in order to create a stand-alone structure that is both an indicator of place and a visual installation. ble concerning the global form, what is presented here as a wall may well be a hanging piece later (as envisioned previously). Sunscreen is composed of a coupled unit consisting of two, embracing modules that aggragate to create a surface. The component for the project is strategic not only for its visual value, but also for its structural integrity and performative qualities : as one progresses around the object, the performations created by the components serve as an aperature that expands and contracts based on the viewer’s location relative to the installation. This typology allows for a structure that is dynamic and engaging although static and unmoving, viewer participation is required to fully experience the piece.

The National Park Project Each year I take a roadtrip during summer and sometimes in winter to go out and explore, backpack and camp in the National Parks of America. Each year I visit a new park and try to capture it’s essence through the lens of my camera and the ink of my pen.
Rocky Mountain National Park, CO We keep hiding from what we have become.
Joshua Tree National Park, CA Noise is all everyone believes in these days. No one believes in silence; they want proof. Shut up, you’ll find the proof.
Zion National Park, UT Water and earth are ancient lovers. We exist because they’re in love.
White Sands National Monument, NM When I was done finding myself, When I was done freeing myself, I surrendered myself.
Acadia National Park, ME These deep blue noises, This gray-brown silence, I am their child.
Great Smoky Mountains National Park, TN Lost in our small little worlds, We forget there are worlds much smaller still.
The Argentina Cafe Beyond architecture school I design print materials, web experiences and photographs. Argentina cafe is one of the clients I’ve designed for since they opened in 2009. Recently, I redesigned their website and print products.
