คานา จุดมุ่งหมายของการทาหลักสูตรนี้คือ เพื่อใช้สอนภาษาไทย (การพูด)ให้กับชาวต่างชาติ โดย เนื้อหาจะเป็นเรื่องในชีวิตประจาวันทั่ว ๆ ไป แบ่งออกเป็น 20 บทเรียน สัญลักษณ์ที่ใช้แทนเสียงก็เป็น แบบง่าย ๆ ไม่ซับซ้อนจนเกินไป อีกทั้งยังทาให้สามารถออกเสียงได้ใกล้เคียงกับเสียงในภาษาไทยอีกด้วย จากประสบการณ์การสอนภาษาไทยให้ชาวต่างชาติที่ผ่านมาพบว่า ในแต่ละบทเรียนนั้นควรจะมี เนื้อหาไม่มากนัก ทั้งนี้เพื่อเป็นการเปิดโอกาสให้ผู้เรียนได้ฝึกพูดหลาย ๆ ครั้ง ซึ่งจะช่วยให้ผู้เรียนสามารถ จาคาศัพท์ หรือประโยคนั้น ๆ ได้ อนึ่งในหลักสูตรนี้ได้มีการนาภาษาอังกฤษเข้ามาใช้ในบางส่วนบาง ตอนเพื่อให้ง่ายต่อการอธิบายความหมายโดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในกรณีที่ผู้สอน ไม่สามารถพูดภาษาของผู้เรียนได้
