Welcome to Issue 1 of Mutiny Kids. Meeting two years ago, when our babies were only a few months old, we became firm friends, bonding over a love of kid’s fashion and interiors. We wanted to work together while we spent time with Leon and Penny, so we began creating this magazine. Our kids have been totally involved, (sometimes by choice, sometimes not so much...) with Penny going with Sooby to pull stock for shoots, and Leon sitting on Lili’s knee while editing photos. Sometimes they’ve even been uninvited guests beside us at the computer at 1am. (‘Please don’t hit that delete button...oh no...not that one...!) It’s all been fun, and we are now champion coffee drinkers. Our kids have probably had too many sugar bribes this month too... But sure, it’s Christmas! From our favourite high street shops to small but perfect concept stores, we look at all things stylish, beautiful and fun for your children. In this magazine, we bring a mix of Lili’s photography and Sooby’s styling, and present to you, our very first issue. The Little Shop of Miracles
The most common thing asked as customers walk through the door of Mira Mira, is “what is that amazing smell?’ A wall full of Max Benjamin candles to your left begins the experience, to the shelves filled with Burts Bees, and Bentley Organics at the back of the store. The wonderful aroma can only be described as unique. To create it at home, you would need to buy everything in the shop, and trust me, you may want to! Mira Mira was opened by the charming and welcoming Bronwyn Thomson just over ten years ago. Inspired by a colleague in her previous telecommunications job, who introduced her to the concept of ethical trading, Bronwyn put her creative talents to work. She established an ethos for her new business, of original, organic and fair trade. Of course, Mutiny Kids’ favourite part of the delectable gift store, is the clothes section. An array of bright and colourful fabrics from Molo, Boys & Girls and
4FunkyFlavours, contrast with the dark, moody but equally amazing Moi items. It is here, you will find that coveted pom pom filled Celebration skirt from Australian brand Rock Your Baby. When searching for the perfect gift, this truly is the place to visit. When your best friend has their first born, you can visit with a beautifully gift wrapped surprise. On offer are those super soft FlatoutBears, a Bu! Blankie, and that much loved Sophie Le Giraffe, along with many many other pretty things. Bronwyn says they love to promote and showcase independent designers work. Especially when it comes to the delights to be found in their jewellery cabinet. Rock Your Baby Sooby Lynch chats to the Director of the increasingly popular Australian brand, Rock Your Baby. How and when did Rock Your Baby begin? Over 12 years ago now. We started at a stall at Bondi market! At the time, we both had very young children and were stuck for cool things to dress them in. Children’s fashion really was a very different landscape then, pretty bleak compared with today’s sheer abundance of choice. We couldn’t buy what we wanted, so we made it. Then sold it! That’s how Rock Your Baby was born.

You often use the most amazing art for your designs. Where do you find the artists? We source our artists from all over the world. It’s wonderful to collaborate with such creative individuals, and rewarding for them also to see their work on our garments. Wearable art - doesn’t get better.
What do think about how Ryb items become collector items and can have huge resale value? We love it! We’re all about vintage and collectibles, so the fact that RYB is now becoming retro and collectible is a great sign that we’ve achieved something we care about. After a couple of years they can be chopped down to cutoff denim shorts with a history. What is the most popular piece in the history of Rock Your Baby? The most popular piece would be our Celebration Skirt. What is your favourite item in the current SS14 range? Probably the Celebration skirt. Another one we really weren’t sure would fly, but fly it did. It’s one of our most popular items. I love it because the pom poms are so fun. Although I also adore the tees with original artworks printed on them. The artists we commission are so amazing and really add something beautiful and unique to our clothes. It’s great to think kids are wearing hand-drawn original pieces of beautiful art. OH - and the dresses made from vintage fabric like the Skandi play skirt… I

What was the most popular piece in the current range? We had lots of hits this season, including the We Can Be Heroes and David Meowie tees (in case you haven’t realised we are big David Bowie fans), leopard boardies, our waisted dresses, jumpsuits, Bunting tee and of course the Celebration Skirt. And our Stardust headband from the Rock Your baby Loves range - it raced out the door, leaving all others for dust!
Can you tell me what we have to look forward to in your A/W15 range (which will be in Ireland in Spring?) Next season is going to be quite a bit darker, with a touch of 70’s glam. And that’s all I’m going to tell you :)
Are you girly girls or tomboys? Does all the tulle and pretty items come naturally to you both, or do you prefer the edgier rock and roll image (we think you do both amazingly!) Awww, thank you. We aim for a toughpretty look with an emphasis on art and fun. We love traditional feminine grace and romance mixed with edgy cool and imaginative whimsy. It just has to be fun for kids to wear. How is social media involved in your advertising? Social media is becoming more and more important to most businesses. Done well, it’s an incredibly powerful and effective tool. Our Instagram family is almost at 50k and it’s amazing how this level of brand awareness and engagement has translated to increased orders and sales. Have you found your Irish fans have increased?
