How would you describe your style?

I’ve done a var ety of styles and iked work ng with the gradient mesh tool but I l ke having a mix of flat color with some subtle shad ng I would cal it a semi rea ist c style I guess Of course if you go by my subject matter it wou d be primarily a sk n style!

How do you work from concept to the final artwerk?

Could you tell us the creative process?

I’ve got a ton of ideas a ways swimming around it my head but I’m never able to execute them as well as I would like I don’t have a strong imaginat on anymore so I do use reference to a certain extent The more real stic the piece the more reference material s requ red for me

I genera ly start out w th a sketch on paper t ll I get a layout I l ke, then I scan that sketch in and trace over it with a b ack ine vary ng the thickness to give the l ne some variety I use a ot of layers in llustrator to make it easier to go back and edit areas. I primar ly use a mouse to do my llustrator work but when I need some qu ck repet t ve stuff I break out my Wacom tablet Late y I’ve been trying to work the tablet n more and more as t does a low for a bit more spontaneity

If I m work ng on a tight portra t I may trace direct y over a photo to get the ikeness as accurate as possib e

What are the projekts you are currently working on? Any future projekts you can share w th us?

I just finished up some concept illustrations for a company that builds snowboard ng ramps world wide They were illustrations to help show how the structures wou d work and how advertis ng could be placed w th them.

I was hoping to have a story book project going but that appears to have stalled a b t

WHO ARE YOUR FAVOURITE ARTISTS OR DESIGNERS?

I have always been a big fan of surrealism and artists such as Salvador Dali, Max Ernst and MC Escher. Tim Burton’s dark and unique characters as well as his narrative style are always inspiring. I have always been fascinated by Dr Suess’ quirky illustrations and story telling. I’m also a massive fan of Asian art and culture.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

The idea of creating something from nothing to a finished piece of work, inspires me. My bizarre creations are the result of the quirky little things that happen throughout my life.

ANY TIPS/TRICKS FOR VEKTORLOVER OUT THERE TO CREATE SUCH A GREAT VEKTOR ARTWERKS LIKE YOURS?

My advice to aspiring illustrators would be to establish a style, practice, and stick with it Get involved in the local community and start exhibiting.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF WWW.VEKTORJUNKIE.COM?

Vektorjunkie is a cutting edge design site that brings the latest trends to everyone.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS INTERVIEW. ANY LAST WORDS...

Thanks guys!
