01 The Regeneration of Ethnic Space Zhaowuda Road, Hohhot, China Individual work Data:2022.9-2022.11
ABSTRACT Hohhot used to be home to many Mongols, who had a unique nomadic lifestyle. As the society progressed and the city developed, the local culture gradually faded away. This design uses an elevated expressway that runs through the city center, and transforms the space under the bridge and the crossbridge architecture, to revive the ethnic space in the city, and enhance the city’s vitality and ethnic pride.

□ Traditional Mongolian way of life disappeared
□ City lacks of ethnic character
□ The urban expressway overpasses that cut through the city reduce its vitality.
The Mongols who live on the grassland have a unique nomadic culture. For thousands of years, the Mongols have followed the tradition of living by the water and grass, relying on nature and respecting nature. The characteristic of nomadic culture is that the space of people’s production and life is flexible, movable, inseparable from nature, and does not have a fixed space to carry various functions. This way of life can enhance the national pride, enrich the people’s life, but with the development of modernization and urbanization. These traditional ways of life of the Mongols have almost disappeared on this grassland. Nowadays, in the Inner Mongolia pastoral area, as the grassland use rights are contracted to households, the grassland is divided into countless pieces by wire fences, and the herdsmen can only rotate grazing in their own grassland areas, and large-scale nomadic is no longer possible. After the population and cattle and sheep increased, the grassland was overloaded and caused degradation and desertification. For this reason, some places adopted grazing bans and accelerated urbanization, and a large number of herdsmen and their descendants moved to the city.
As the city expands continuously, the grassland that used to be here has now been replaced by the city. People’s lives in the city are more modernized, and the form and function of public spaces are single and unchangeable, losing the local characteristics of the city.
The Zhelimu Road elevated expressway is about 9.6 kilometers long, starting from the South Second Ring Road and ending at the North Second Ring Road. At present, the main line has a total of 9 ramps, 5 up and 4 down. This road runs through the central urban area of Hohhot from north to south. After the ramps are put into use, they will form a network loop with the main roads such as Ordos Avenue, Hulunbuir Road, Ulanqab Street, Xing’an South Road, etc., easing the traffic pressure in the central urban area and bringing convenience to the residents along the line. Driving along the Zhaowuda Road-Zhelimu Road elevated expressway from the South Second Ring Road to the North Second Ring Road takes only about 10 minutes. Along the elevated expressway, there are Inner Mongolia People’s Hospital, Cultural Mall, Inner Mongolia University, Inner Mongolia Normal University, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, Racecourse, and ethnic communities with ethnic-related functions. It can be said that the elevated expressway is not only the link of the city, but also the link between the local characteristics and the ethnic groups of the city.
In order to restore the localization of the city, carry and inherit the national culture, enhance the national pride, the use of urban public space should be rethought, and some national characteristic lifestyles should be revived and integrated into the urban planning and construction.
Before the elevated expressway was built, this road was very prosperous and had urban vitality. Although the elevated road has alleviated the traffic congestion after it was built, it also caused many problems such as narrow non-motorized lanes, sidewalks, and deserted shops along the street. It has divided the city to a certain extent. The elevated expressway is an inevitable product of urban development. However, it should not only be made of cold steel and concrete, but become the link of urban civilization as well. We look forward to using the space of the elevated road to restore the prosperous streets and show the cultural connotation and humanistic feelings of this city.

The main sources of income for villagers are agriculture and glass making. In recent years, the living standards of villagers have improved. The villagers maintain a strong sense of local sentiment and actively participate in various festival activities in the village. They inherit the historical and cultural heritage of Liuliqu Village.
The village is not far from the city, with a strong village culture and a must pass place when entering the mountains. Many tourists pass by this place every day. Tourists are a great opportunity for villages to develop the tourism industry and generate income for the village.

ZOOLOGICAL GARDEN
In 2500 BC, the ancient Egyptians of the Neolithic Age domesticated wild animals that were not used for food, and used them as totems of their primitive beliefs. At this period, on the Mesopotamian plain, the kings had already started to keep lions in their gardens.
Chinese Royal Gardens
Urban Water System
By 1298 BC, Ramses II kept lions and giraffes as his pets, and the pharaohs of ancient Egypt even took lions with them to participate in battles. Hanging Gardens of Babylon had wetlands suitable for animal survival, and King Solomon had a huge group of wild animals.
Core Area of the Capital
In ancient Greece, animal domestication had a more clear purpose: animal research and civic education, display. In 350 BC, Aristotle wrote the world’s first zoological encyclopedia, History of Animals . In the first century BC, Rome established a huge empire that spanned Europe, Asia and Africa. Bloody arenas appeared, causing a lot of animals to face survival crisis or even extinction.
Until the 17th to 19th centuries in Europe, the Enlightenment and the French Revolution had a great impact on the rise of zoos. The French Revolution broke out in 1789, awakening the public’s longing for liberty, equality, fraternity. The animals in the Versailles Zoo, as noble heritage, were protected by scientists in the name of scientific research. They introduced the zoo into the Paris Botanical Garden. The French zoologist Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire became the director of the zoo in 1804, and the core role of the zoo was in scientific research. In 1826, the British politician Robert Peel founded the London Zoological Society, and then the zoo built by the London Zoological Society for scientific research purposes was completed. Initially, the zoo was only for members to study animals, and it was not until 1847 that it opened to the public. The London Zoo set the standard and direction for the development of modern zoos. The British singer Alfred Vance published the song named Walking in the Zoo in 1869, which became popular throughout Britain, and brought the word ZOO into the lives of ordinary people for the first time.
Moving into the 20th centur y, An animal merchant and circus owner named Hagenbeck introduced a new entertainment mode into the zoo and achieved great commercial success. The function of zoos to spread scientific knowledge began to weaken. But Hagenbeck was the first to propose using moats to isolate animals, which also gave a great inspiration to George Mottershead, the founder of one of the most popular zoos in the world, the Chester Zoo in Britain, which was founded in 1937. His dream was to build a zoo without fences.

□ Block the traffic
□ Lack of functions
□ Discord in the relationship
The base is located in a large block area, affecting the traffic accessibility, which is inconvenient for urban residents. The activity space of animals is very small and restricted by human activities.
The current situation of the base is boring and single-functioned, and cannot meet the needs of urban humans for education, sports, entertainment, etc. here.
The activity space of animals is very small and restricted by human activities. The relationship between humans and animals needs to be considered.
The Gaia hypothesis is a hypothesis proposed by James Lovelock in 1972. The entire surface of the earth, including all life, constitutes a self-regulating whole, which is what I call Gaia. it makes the world rethink the position of animals on the earth. Nowadays, zoos around the world have deviated from the original intention of the first zoo: for animal research and protection. With the expansion of cities, the living territory of animals is getting smaller and smaller, and the captive animals are not comfortable in traditional zoos. Humans cannot coexist peacefully with animals, and the problem of multi-ethnic coexistence has aroused social thinking.
■ Master plan First, for large-scale plots, their permeability should be enhanced. The optimal solution for roads can be obtained by using the wool algorithm, that is, the road with the smallest total area, the highest efficiency, and the most interesting. Raise/lower the road, occupying the least space for animal life. Divide the site into three parts, and set three types of terrain–forest, grassland and desert. When assigning activity areas to different animals, place more ferocious animals in the middle of the site, and their activity range is relatively fixed, while gentle animals are arranged on the edge of the site, and their activity range is not completely fixed. Of course, removing the boundary of the zoo can also attract other animals from the urban green belt to come here to play and settle. Finally, layout buildings at the road nodes, these buildings serve people, and undertake functions such as leisure and entertainment, sports, art exhibitions, etc. while observing animals.

04 Urban Space Shared by People and Cats Istanbul, Turkey Individual work Data:2023.12-2024.01
ABSTRACT Istanbul is a famous city of cats, where cats and humans share the urban public space. A series of urban furniture has been designed in the public space, which can meet the functions of four scenarios in the city: leisure, dining, street performance, and children’s entertainment. This design meets the needs of both humans and cats, and also allows people and cats to interact with each other, and narrow the distance between them. It appeals to people to protect animals.

The Turkish love for cats stems from the religious tradition of Islam. According to legend, the founder of Islam, Muhammad, loved cats very much. In Turkey, people not only keep cats as pets, but also regard them as sacred animals, and are filled with awe and affection for them. In order to better protect and care for the cats, volunteers in Istanbul have spontaneously formed various cat protection organizations. These organizations are committed to providing medical care and food for stray cats, and helping them through the cold winter and hot summer.

Cats live in urban public spaces. Some cats stretch out on the hood of a car and enjoy the “sunbathing”, some cats swaggeringly “take” the bus and sit next to people, some cats gather at the automatic feeding station on the street and wait for pedestrians to feed them, and some cats hide in the corners of cafes or libraries and squint their eyes to rest.

Assess the urgency
The objective values of 29 spatial elements and the corresponding subjective satisfaction of women in 53 streets in Beijing were investigated by using SD semantic disagreement method. A total of 1278 questionnaires were collected. Machine learning method was used to analyze the spatial elements of street that affect women's satisfaction and their importance. Finally, the urgency of the improvement of various street space elements is obtained.
2.Machine learning Results: The final result of machine learning is shown in the chart [Normalizing importance] on the right. The higher the value is, the more important it is; the other way around, the less important it is.
Process: Based on the measurement value (X) and satisfaction rating ( Y ) of 5 3 s t re e t s , t h e machine learned the importance ranking of e a c h s t r e e t s p a c e element.
