Linden Lab Invites First Virtual Experience Creators to Project Sansar Testing PRESS RELEASE ARCHIVE Browse the archive of past releases by Linden Lab.
SAN FRANCISCO - August 18, 2015 - Linden Lab速, the creators of Second Life速, today announced that a small number of creators have been exclusively invited to be the first to help test its new platform for virtual experiences, codenamed Project Sansar. Slated for general availability in 2016, Project Sansar will democratize virtual reality as a creative medium. It will empower people to easily create, share, and monetize their own multiuser, interactive virtual experiences, without requiring engineering resources. The platform will enable professional-level
quality and performance with exceptional visual fidelity, 3D audio, and physics simulation. Experiences created with Project Sansar will be optimized for VR headsets like the Oculus Rift, but also accessible via PCs and (at consumer launch) mobile devices. Users can explore and socialize within Project Sansar experiences through advanced expressive avatars, using text and voice chat. Drawing on more than 12 years of unique experience running Second Life, the largest-ever user-created virtual world, Linden Lab will make it fun and easy for Project Sansar users to
create social VR experiences, eliminating the complicated challenges that today limit the medium to professional developers with significant resources. Project Sansar will allow creators at all levels to focus on realizing their creative visions, without having to worry about issues such as hosting and distribution, multi-user access and communication systems, virtual currency and regulatory compliance, and other challenges associated with creating, sharing, and monetizing virtual experiences today.

“We want to lower the barrier of entry for VR experience creation,” said Ebbe Altberg, CEO of Linden Lab. “Project Sansar will do for virtual experiences what WordPress has done for the Web: empower a broad range of people to create with professional quality and reach global audiences. By greatly expanding who can create virtual experiences, Project Sansar will also extend the value of VR to a wide variety of use-cases — from gaming and entertainment to education, architecture, art, community-building, business meetings, healthcare, conferences, training, and more.” The small group of initial creators invited to help test Project Sansar will create 3D content using Autodesk’s Maya® software and will export their creations to the new platform. At consumer launch, Project Sansar will support a variety of third-party creation tools as well as native building options, so that creators can work with their preferred software. In the coming months, Linden Lab will welcome addi-
tional creators and content partners to Project Sansar as new features are added to the platform and testing expands. Linden Lab is also currently recruiting talented engineers to join the team developing Project Sansar. More information about working for Linden Lab, current positions, and applications can be found at lindenlab.com/careers. About Linden Lab Founded in 1999, Linden Lab is best known as the creator of Second Life, the largest-ever 3D virtual world filled entirely by the creations of its users. In 2013, the company expanded its product portfolio with Blocksworld®, a lighthearted buildand-play system on the iPad for kids and grownups alike. The company is currently developing a new platform for virtual experiences, code-named Project Sansar, which will democratize VR as a creative medium.

his time I want to introduce you to a land of role-playing game and the same creators and players will describe it during my interviews. So don’t waste time and discover the world of Eternal Conflict, but before starting I present to you the creators: Lнıиоvаиıои Нєᴌᴄаяаxё the Prime Evil and Таѕна Ѕтая Нєᴌᴄаяаxё The Empyrean Celestia. Lнıиоvаиıои Нєᴌᴄаяаxё: Actually A&D is a Role Playing System so we avoid calling it a "game" and also Members instead of players

Eternal Conflict: Angels & Demons Which door will you open? Heaven or Hell? writer and photographer : Zily Resident
Our intention was to create tools and devices also an environment that people can use to Role Play as Angels and Demons. zιℓу ρσи: And the angels and demons fight each other? Lнıиоvаиıои Нєᴌᴄаяаxё: Correct. They use their HUDs to fight each other, but Angels attacking Angels or Demons attacking Demons is also possible. Таѕна Ѕтая Нєᴌᴄаяаxё : But attacking your same species will make you a criminal Lнıиоvаиıои Нєᴌᴄаяаxё: The point is that we try to keep the realistic elements is the system. We lead the whole community as Creators which makes us also a part of the System zιℓу ρσи: So there is a very extensive PvP, but has consequences. Interesting. I saw that you can pick up items is right? Lнıиоvаиıои Нєᴌᴄаяаxё: Yes we have Professions Sub-System. They can craft armors, make potions to aid them in fight and also spell scrolls. Professions are a deep subject that would take us hours to explain. There are a lot of details. For example: Mining from the rocks gives you Ores and then you need to smelt them into Ingots to make them usable. Also for making Spell Scrolls you will need to chop some woods from the trees and make them 78 | VSN - Issue 41 - September 2015
to chop some woods from the trees and make them into parchments and then you can write your spells on the parchments using Ink zιℓу ρσи: I can only imagine how many objects can be created, but a player can only focus in roleplay? Or for survive need also focus on crafting armors and other items? Таѕна Ѕтая Нєᴌᴄаяаxё: It depends on each player. Some people focus on the roleplay side of the system while others focus on the fighting elements, some people just like to play as gatherers by doing the professions. No matter what people can choose which they like the most about the system and focus on that aspect they aren’t forced to do a specific thing Lнıиоvаиıои Нєᴌᴄаяаxё: We don't force the members to Role Play in the system but they have to respect the Lore of the system and the role players. All those professions and other system details are to make the Role Play more visualized. zιℓу ρσи: Of course there is a specific request, but the system still manages to every player. Таѕна Ѕтая Нєᴌᴄаяаxё : Yes that is our aim to try to cater to every type of player :) So that there is something here that everyone can enjoy zιℓу ρσи: Thanks for your time this is really

great, you have something to say to the people who might be interested in becoming an angel or a demon? Таѕна Ѕтая Нєᴌᴄаяаxё : For me I would like to say that we are an open community and we as the creators and developers of this system are always interactive with our players and try to listen to their suggestions as much as possible. Here we try to form a close community, so every new player will feel welcomed and will always have someone here to help them Lнıиоvаиıои Нєᴌᴄаяаxё: They should definitely stop by and meet our Greeters if they are interested in such a Role Play or a System. We believe their SL will be improved to a whole new level. Here a short presentation of the creators, but what the players think? Let's find out with Ϯяєαѕυяє Нєᴌᴄаяаxё ߣɑςκвμяи an Angel . How did you find this land? Your first impressions when you visit it? Ϯяєαѕυяє Нєᴌᴄаяаxё ߣɑςκвµяи: I was invited over by friends in common with the owners the day the beta testing began I fell in love with the role play and beauty of the items immediately Why did you choose to be a demon or an angel? What are the differences between angels or demons?
Ϯяєαѕυяє Нєᴌᴄаяаxё ߣɑςκвµяи: For me being and angel was about personal preference I love the Idea of being a guardian for good . Angels and Demons differ in attacks when talking about the combat side of the role play the angels will hit harder while demons can hit more often there is not any advantage to one side at the end of the day it becomes about skill in combat the other parts of the system is the same for both sides just differnt names
who are as much in love with the game as I am . I have met and developed strong new friendships here its been a very positive experience for me
This is Eternal Conflict hope and I have intrigued you with these interviews, but to learn more about this game roleplay always recommend to visit it for yourself. The setting is simple and effective, the game system satisfies all players so that what you're waiting for? But what will you choose? You'll Are you satisfied that you are a be an Angel or a Demon?great, part in this world? What can you tell to the readers about your experience? Advice everyone to participate or at least try to be angels or demons? Ϯяєαѕυяє Нєᴌᴄаяаxё ߣɑςκвµяи: yes trying the system is a must Its free to play everything needed is provided on the sim The system creators have listed to each of the players who take time to participate in ideas and opinions I have watched ideas from all over sl come into play with the updates of the system The families for both angels and Demons are headed up by experienced Role players 84 | VSN - Issue 41 - September 2015

nce upon a time, an intrepid young man had ventured into a gloomy and dark forest. He was determined to prove that this place was not so bad and he penetrated toward its center, but while he was walking in the wood he saw a girl who begged him to save her, but he did not know how to do.

The girl was suddenly transformed into a snake trapped inside a crystal ball and the young man was stunned, but he knew he was able to save her taking her away from the forest. The extraordinary snake ordered him to take her to a castle and, upon arrival, she was transformed back into a maiden.

WITHALITTLE HELPFROM MY(ONLINE) FRIENDS writer and photographer : Mattew Northman
I
n the social networks' era the word "friend" is becoming higly overrated. Every network, platform or social site keeps naming the contact list "friends list" making people forget the real definition of "friend". A friend is, according to the collins dictionary, "a person known well to another and regarded with liking, affection, and loyalty". According to this definition everyone should go through their friend list and see who really fulfills these requirements. In early 2000s, after the boom of Facebook everyone keeps calling "friends" people who barely got a look at them, same with Second 128| VSN - Issue 41 - September 2015

Life, Habbo and so on. This era, however, has a positive side: people who couldn't even have the possibility to meet given the few chances to travel at least have a chat and by this point of view things are amazing. You have more to do than just hang out with friends, using internet, platforms and imagination (sometimes a lot of it) you can have parties, play fighting, ride on tracks and so on. Basically‌ the same thing you can do with a videogame, but with the advantage of interacting with other people. So‌ what are the risks? In the news we hear a lot about sexual abusing, raping, homicide and so on, so I won't talk about these here, they're well known fact. Like in love you have to keep your defenses up, problem is that they're not this up. Shortly‌ if you feel you won't fall in love with someone you'll never be on guard, "we won't be engaged", and this opens for a new world of trickery. Who has ever
had a fake friend who suddenly asked for money and never gave back them to you? Well it's a bad example, but I hope this makes things clear. However there's not only this danger. What I would like to put the focus, however, is another thing less dangerous: alienation. If you keep doing funny things IRL or with games and so on there will always be a moment where you lose the sense of time passing. If you say it's just a matter of hours let's do maths: let's say around 4 hours per day, it's 28 hours per week, 140 hours per month. And since most people don't consider the time spent on facebook, Second Life and others like free time because there's always something to do, something that surely isn't relaxing at all. What's the result? Time lost and nothing can bring it back. It's the main danger with social networks and can bring more damage than someone can imagine. Less time for studying, working or doing ,
less time for self-caring and more stress. And once you realize you spent too much time it's already too late. This is the major danger in these things, no matter how much you had fun, time is time. Even So‌ friendship can be bad as it can be good, after all we're not islands. Online friendship has to be treated like real life friendship, no matter how many time you say to yourself "well‌ after all it's not real". This sentence made more victims than a bunch of sharks in a tornado, believe me feel welcomed and will al-
