earm readers,
At last, whether you have been naughty or nice, Christmas is coming to town! Are you ready to open your presents and eat like there’s no tomorrow? Hot chocolate, family, friends… but let’s focus on this month’s edition of our magazine: of course, as you probably have already noticed, the magazine has been “Christmas-ised”. December, cold, snow… who better than Jack Frost could represent them? Our beloved Mafalda has made a wonderful cover dedicating it entirely to our favourite icemaking hero (sorry, Elsa). Isn’t it cool? Even Jack himself would agree. Moreover, you will find in these pages tons of other Christmas-related things, like places to visit, things to do and, for the first time, even a little comic! But let’s introduce you to this edition’s articles: Aphrodite shop interview, sl goes cloud, bloggers, horoscope, sky glas, our photographers, eye for fairs: violet daffordil, red despair, amaZingg, hakoniwa, top places. Once ticles,
again,

"Welcome to our Aphrodite Restaurant, Shop and Coffeehouse blog. Please make yourself at home and feel free to stay as long as you want! We will be always glad to create the best products for your SL - Marina Ramer & Jaylin Whitewood" I's ow the official Aphrodite Shop blog greets us, it's cozy and sweet and you feel like at home when your grandma made your favorite food and saying "ehy darling, relax now, okay?" after a bad day. But i wanted to take a peek behind the wonderful brand and talk directly with the owner and designer Marina Ramer! So, without any further ado here is my interview with her!
33
Why Sansar is a new experience? The answer is simple: the regions and the tiny lands are designed to be explored with a much better graphics than ever before, and most of all, the environment is almost realistic. My humble judgment is positive for those who, like me, want to enjoy the beauty of virtual places as a result of fantasy, artistic extravagance, and the commitment of those who built that land.
34
I'm so glad to have the opportunity to talk to you and do this interview So, how did came up with the idea of starting a shop on SL? Did you just woke up one day with the idea or you took your time? I love food so I started making food platters and sell them, they were made of prims, back then, almost 10 years ago now. It went so well, that I started renting a kiosk on another persons sim, which later became a small shop, which later became a medium size store, and at present almost one sim. Even when now we are a megastore with over 3500 products in may categories like houses, furnitures, gifts, wedding products and much more, people still identifies my store with food. It took a long time, years time but now we are quite company with several employees, and all my team its very happy of what they do.
35
Why the name "Aphrodite"? Did you study 3D graphic before or after SL? Aphrodite because the goddess of love, nothing else! I am from Argentina and that career, not even a course its here about that so sadly I cannot learn even if I would want to. In my team we have 5 artists that works on 3d graphic modeling and does that part. Again I wanna thank you for taking the time to answer all of my questions because I know it isn't easy with all the things that are going on in SL Do you have a job iRL? How do you keep up? On this note, how is to work during this period of the time? I mean in October we have Halloween, November has Thanksgiving and December is full of Christmas magic. How can you keep up? How many little elf do you have to help you get the things done in time? For everyone on my team except Jaylin my partner, this is our RL job, so we take it as that and we work many hours a day here. Jaylin does the furniture animating part, by creating animating and animating each furniture, scripting and more, so its harder for him because he ends with two works daily. For the rest of Aphrodite team its maybe easier.
36
I suggest you try to sign up and try it in person. In this article I want to thank June Trekins (and I invite you to search for her photos on Flickr) for the photos she shot in Sansar. (Unfortunately my Internet connection fails to support the minimum required! Sigh!) In the same issue of this month you can find more information about sansar, I just have to leave you reading and curiosity! 37
Can you give us some news and infos about what are you going to release in the future? We plan to continue offering the best products for peoples SL, always innovating and offering only unique and original creations. Right now we just finished all Xmas products and we are working already on the new Valentines new line. Do you ever have a rough time on SL? As a creator? Or maybe a some sort of lack of inspiration? How do you get pass that? Yes many times, not just once, sadly. Competence haters, ex employees haters, customers who maybe has a rl problem and comes here and take it with myself or someone else of the team, or even my store name, by leaving a bad review not even contacting us, We always answer everyone with a big smile and go on, that is the best way to go on.
38
39
What would you say to a past you? What advice you wish somebody gave to you when you started? Never hire any CRS .Some just doesn't deserve a chance and they aren't disabled people! for the rest I don't have any regrets, bad feelings or anything against anyone. In life everything its a boomerang, so all bad you do comes back sooner or later, thats why I live without hurting others or wishing or making bad to no-one and my reputations store remains intact, and for the ones that doesn't care about this well, bad for you. We all just want happy people. happy customers and a very long lasting business.

This is the end of our interview. Again i wanna thank Marina for answering to all of my questions during this period of the year and wanna ask you guys to indulge in her shop, it's a world of wonders and you'll surely find something that suits your style or photographic needs. Plus, talking about photography I wanna credit: Dean Joe https://www.flickr.com/photos/deanjoe Sabrina Stylo https://www.flickr.com/photos/gocciolinanavarita/ Aracuan Lokaria https://www.flickr.com/photos/aracuanlokaria Sophia Paez https://www.flickr.com/photos/130502465@N06

t the end of November, Lindel Lab greeted us with a new exciting news: SL goes Cloud! That mean that we, SL residents, are going to have some perks in our experience in our favourite virtual world. Here is the Lindel Lab statement: "For those who have heard about Second Life going to the Cloud, the rumors are true. Right now Sansar is running off AWS and they are currently working on getting Second Life setup in the cloud. What this means for Second Life users? SPEED! The cloud allows much faster speeds and updates are quick. No more physical servers to update and replace. Once Second Life is fully transferred over, you should see a huge difference in performance and updates. The news broke with the following news from Second Life: Dear Second Life Residents, It’s been an exciting summer at Linden Lab. Second Life celebrated its 14th anniversary, and shortly thereafter we also opened Sansar’s creator beta to the world. In addition, we are thrilled to announce a set of investments into Second Life and its communities that will include enhancements to our
tomer support, billing systems and upgrades, and customer acquisition outreach. In all, we’ve budgeted many millions (USD, not L$…) in the coming year to make SL even better, and we’ll keep everyone up to date on improvements as they roll out (or sooner). This summer’s milestones have given us all another opportunity to reflect on just how strong the Second Life community is, what an incredible history SL has had so far, and what an amazing future lies ahead for the virtual world and its Residents. For more than 14 years, you’ve created memorable experiences, diverse communities, close relationships, thriving economies, engaging art, exciting events, and amazing creations of all kinds. You’ve made the world, and we’re proud to provide the platform and tools that help you to do so. We at Linden continue to be impressed by what we witness from Residents every day, and we want you to know that we share that commitment to and love for Second Life. Here are a few of the things you can look forward to soon: • We are hard at work upgrading all of the SL infrastructure and moving it to the cloud, which will bring a wealth of opportunities to Residents near and far, and allow us, among many other things, to make SL more performant for Residents across the world from us.
47
I
t may also allow us to introduce new products with more flexible pricing.
We’re working on several features to increase the value of Premium subscriptions. Most recently we gave Premium members priority access to near-full events, and shortly, we’ll be ready to unveil another bit of exciting news for subscribers. • We’re building out a series of great extensions to Windlight (code name: EEP!), which will give value, flexibility, and new marketability to land, and will make Windlight settings tradeable assets. • We have an extension to the animation system in the works (code name: Animesh) that will allow non-avatar objects to use more powerful and efficient skeletal animations the way avatars can today, and even more changes planned for creators and merchants later in the year. • We’ve also got new experiences and events coming. An exciting new grid-wide gaming experience is coming soon! The team can’t wait to share the details with you in just a few days. Also in the works for this fall is an updated Halloween Haunted Tour, with new spooktacular events to celebrate. Not to mention, we’re turning 15 next year – SL15B, baby! That’s an incredible milestone and we are looking forward to collaborating with you to produce an amazing celebration.
48
49
Long live Second Life and long live the creative process in the amazing worlds that you’ve trail-blazed! Thank you for filling SL with your creations and communities all of these past 14+ years, and here’s to many, many more together. Best, Ebbe Linden, CEO & the Second Life Team" So, in a nutshell: This new sistem will allow SL to go faster and smoother, we'll have, in the future, the possibility to make objects with a skeleton system that can have its own animations similar or better to bento and more flexible prices. For the Premium user there are gonna be some more privileges and features. For more i'll send you to see the Amazon Lindel Lab Case Study: https://aws.amazon.com/ it/solutions/case-studies/ linden-lab/

'm currently blogging about events that occur in Second Life. I'm a self proclaimed shopaholic with way too many clothes. " This is how you introduced yourself in your blog, but for our readers it isn't enough. Would you tell us some more about yourself ? How long have been on SL? Why did you start? And what kept you around? I first found second life on a college computer, while taking an introduction to technology course. I didn't join right away, but after some time I wanted to know what it was and why the program was on everyones computer. Turns out they were studying the business dynamics of a virtual world. Interested, I went home and downloaded it. I was shy and hid from other people, but I let down my walls and I started to chat with people. Soon afterwards, I wanted to be part of this world and make a place for myself. I would say that friends really held me here those first few months. However, the ability to create pictures and blogging keeps me here. I started my blog shortly after joining second life. Before Seraphim, a lot of people used flickr and social media to find out about the latest events. I wanted my blog to be a source of information for others. After awhile, I started to really have a passion for taking pictures. I even gained an appreciation for the designers and creators in this world. It's amazing the amount of work and effort that people put into products. It's no small feat. And I'm very thankful they do. In short, it's the photographers, bloggers, designers, event coordinators, and so many others who help me to stick around. I enjoy seeing their creations, but I like buying them and creating my own artistic interpretations, while using their products. There's also little communities that form out of those groups of people. Photographers and bloggers have their own little sub culture in second life. We exchange ideas and even tips. We even talk about food and pop culture. It can be a very pleasant experience, at the end of the day. Curiosity caused me to download second life. Creativity and people inspire me, which fuels my own passions. Answering what keeps me here is a long list. I have more reasons to stay than to be any where else.
109
H
ow long have you been blogging? Why did you start? Did you have any favourite designers that you where "stalking" or did you just wanted to share things around? Is blogging a problem with your RL? I've been blogging for three years. Sometimes it feels like just yesterday. Time flies when you're having fun. I started my blog because I enjoy shopping so much. I alway joked that my blog justified my shopping habits. Really, I was inspired by other bloggers and photographers. It was a world that I wanted to be apart of. I wanted to find a way to be creative in second life. Oh sure!! I had a LOT of favorite designers. I followed them on flickr and I would buy their items at events. I still do. I think everyone in second life finds a style that speaks to them. We gravitate towards certain designers to create our own look. I really adore Alme, Stealthic, Rowne, United Colors, Dead Dollz, DeeTalez, Studio Exposure, Izzie's, and so many more. I could fill a few pages with designers that I follow and buy their wares. Blogging hasn't been a problem in my real life. If anything, it helped me find something that was missing. It gives me a sense of belonging. It's always nice to find a group of people who enjoy the same things that you do. It's also really nice to look forward to events and share that information with others. Sure, there's competition and fights sometimes, but blogging and photography has definitely provided a little home for me here. It has given me a community.
110
111
Which events do you blog for? What's your favourite theme? I am not connected to any specific events, but I do blog some events regularly. I always blog Collabor88, Uber, The Arcade, and The epiphany to name a few. You can always find a mention of these events in my blog. I really enjoy anything that has a color palette with pink in it. I love the color pink. I always have and I always will. I even made mention of it in my blogs. Looking through photos, you can see my love of that color. I am guilty of over using it. As for a specific theme, I really do enjoy Halloween and Christmas. I look forward to events with themes of witches and things that go bump in the night. BUT, I also really enjoy buying stockings for a fireplace, Christmas decorations, and sweet treats for everyone to enjoy. During December there are so many events that we easily lose track of them. Do you ever get overworked? How many photos do you have to take during this time of the year, and how do you organize your work? There are a lot of different types of bloggers out there. In the past, I never took sponsors, so I didn't have deadlines. I am taking sponsors now, but I never take on too many projects. I really enjoy learning about photography, which requires my time. I try really hard not to take on to many projects, because I don't want the quality of my work to suffer. As for organization, I create folders for certain events, and for certain companies. After I finish a blog, I organize everything--or try to. I want to produce high quality pictures, so I give myself the time to do it. I also really enjoy decorating in second life, which actually helps inspire some of my pictures. So I try not to take on more than I can handle. I have been over worked before, but I try really hard not to be. It's really important for me to keep second life enjoyable. All work and no play makes Violet a very dull girl. I always tell people that balance is really important here. You also have to know what your goals are. My goals for blogging may differ from another blogger, and that is OKAY. Currently, I'm blogging for DB Poses and Eliavah. I've been name the style editor of Squeeze magazine. I've also applied to a few companies and events. But I always make sure to look at the blogging requirements for each event and business. I'm really careful about the amount of companies and events that I blog for.
112
The amount of photos differs month to month. Sometimes I get featured in a magazine such as this one and I will take 10 pictures in a month. Then other times, I will only take four pictures. My work load really depends on a few things. It depends on the blogging requirements for a company, if I'm doing an article for a magazine, or a special project.. I don't have a set amount of pictures that I do every month.
113
A
fter all the struggles and hard work, do you feel satisfied?
Hmmm I always say that we are our own worst critic. I get a feeling of completion with my photos and blog posts. But as for being satisfied, no. I'm not satisfied because I always believe that there is always something new to learn or to try. I have moments where I love a certain picture that captures something special--a message, a feeling, or scene. Some blog posts, I look at and think.. how can I make this better, for next time? Then, there are other posts that I feel proud of.. I'm never satisfied, because there is always room for improvement. We chatted a while before this interview, sharing opinions etc, and you told me that sometimes you get the inspiration from the event theme. But what about lack of inspiration, how do you get out of that? If I get a creative block, I look no further than creative people in real life. I've listened to Mozart. I've looked online and flipped through photos of sculptures of Michaelangelo. I've also listened to music in different genres and even to my own favorite artists. I also like to read. I did a picture inspired by The Great Gatsby. It's a book that I've read several times. I've been really lucky to find inspiration all around me. We live in a digital age, so finding a muse is only a click away. As for blog posts, I seem to find inspiration through the events or clothes. Sometimes, I'll find it by talking to other residents. I really believe that people find their muse by living their life--doing the things they enjoy, talking to people, having a new experience, or even stepping outside of their comfort zone.

say
to
hat advice would you give for anybody interested in blogging? Is there anything else you wanus and to our readers?
If you're interested in blogging, I would say to look at other bloggers. I would also suggest taking the first few months to get a feel for the kind of blog that you want. In those first few months of blogging, you can look up blogging platforms and learn the layout of the website. I would also highly suggest looking into editing software and researching that software--either with youtube videos or online how to guides.. After about three months, it's also beneficial to look into blogging groups and really participate in them. I've been really lucky to have a few mentors along the way. Many people have helped me to get to this point. There's also blogging classes that are available through the Blogger Vloggers Network (BVN). I know some would benefit from them. But the most important part is to have fun and be true to yourself. Thank you dear, I'm really happy and pleased by this interiew. You answered to all of my questions leaving me speechless with your artistic soul!

elcome back to this monthly event dedicated to the culture that we can find and discover on SL, on this occasion I can not fail to share with you what I found in my virtual wanderings. ell, this land is absolutely suggestive. An art meeting between black and red. It is very suggestive if you put the graphics in high definition, the choice of the statues is very studied, as if you lived an evolution that breaks every barrier, the whole is surrounded by darkness leaving as a protagonist the feeling of desperation and movement that surround these figures.

ll this place is a tribute to photography, intense and above all very useful as a source of inspiration for dark and introspective settings, there is no precise path to follow to enjoy this land but you can discover small gems by changing the position of your room. For lovers of photography, this place is ideal for spending several hours to discover formidable shots, full of emotions, for people who instead like to discover new places can not help but visit it.
