VIRTUAL SECOND NIGHT
A
survey recently published by blogger Canary Back has reignited the debate over what really do like Second Life users. The survey would give a “surprising” result in line by the way with a previous study of Gilbert, Gonzalez and Murphy of 2011: users of virtual worlds such as that of Linden Lab, which as known is aimed at an older audience than other platforms such as Imvu or Twinity, like to entertain relations involving also activities of a sexual nature. Really? What’s even more “disconcerting” would be that those who like this type of entertainment seems to be more interesting, pleasant or otherwise available on a whole range of practices which in real life would not want or be able to do or at least would feel just as interesting. Again: really? This thing let smile an average user, not only of Second Life but of the web in general, because you know for years that the “adult” contents should generate about a third of the world’s Internet traffic, even if, on the exact numbers of this industry, there is no certainty, even if estimates are talking about several billion dollars a year in revenue (between 9 and 36 billions, a range so wide to lose analytical meaningful but enough to indicate the magnitude of the phenomenon). So in the end what are we talking about? Of the fact that there is certainly a minority more or less consistent of users who use Second Life (as well as other platforms and the web in general) to satisfy the appetites of sexual activity and found this more satisfying than in his real life. Stay tuned!

A pixelated ghost love story...
S
econd life, as many virtual platforms and MMORPGs has promoted socialization with other people, many relations have been tied together since internet entered in everyone's houses. Relations based on hatred, bullying and grudge, but also on friendship and, most importantly, love. We can say that with virtual platforms sentimental relationship has evolved a bit more. Back in the time of MMORPGs, when for the first time 3D avatars appeared another point of the visual factor entered the game, the beauty of the avatar itself, limited to just a good photo before. In games like EverQuest, Dark Age of Camelot and World of Warcraft many people fell in love between themselves starting from the beauty of their avatars, love started now with a kind action, now with aesthetics or just personal tastes. Not much time passed until this was brought to a brand new level with Second Life. No limits to create an avatar, no forcing to kill a character and no minimum level that limits a costume or a suit, you just pay for the best clothes as in real life, and the same to create a body, just with patience and personal tastes. otherwise just pay for a shape and a skin.

n Second Life everyone is beautiful, many ones with clothes that, perhaps, won't buy or see for any reason, everyone moves in a perfect way making everyone attractive. How to bring in Second Life a relationship? Just pay L$ 10 each to create a partnership. What is the real meaning behind this cost is definitely unknown, since it gives no special privileges, no extra abilities and the idea of co-owning a land together as a single owner has been scrapped shortly after being introduced. Is this everything? Just a note on someone's profile? Obviously not, wedding planning industry is fervent here and offers everything in Second Life that can be offered in real life for a marriage to be remembered. Of course this costs, around thousands of linden dollars, but since searching for the perfect land, the perfect props and furniture, planning the ceremony, the party and the wedding and search for artists and DJs to be hired (and paying them) is truly hard work it's a reasonable price. In shorts the average time to plan a wedding is around a week, easier than in real life, but still hard to do. And what should do the lonely ones? Dating nights, concerts, discos, ballroom are for this, also RPG lands are good cauldrons of this crazy little things called love. Again we meet our old friend the MMORPG, this time in the equation of love something else comes in with the avatar and the user behind it, that is the character in the game. Many people met this destiny and it's not this rare.

T
his brings me to make a question, a very important one that everyone should ask to himself: "Are you really in love with that person or is just his avatar?". Yes, the parody song "Do you want to date my avatar" has a firm basis and this question should be on every manual of a virtual platform. As I already said everyone is beautiful, it's hard that someone makes on purpose an ugly avatar or, however, an average one. Also is really easy to lose ourselves in the beauty of a perfectly shaped figure, problem is that this figure is made for this. Compliments like "You are so beautiful" or "You dance really well" or "you are so sexy" should receive the answer "Thanks, I bought this skin/ao/shape because I like it", but everyone falls easily with compliments. Animations, skins, shapes, apparel and other things all are a part of the avatar and the avatar is just a puppet. Don't misunderstand me, I still believe that behind every avatar there's a person with a unique mind,
feelings and tastes, but every user uses the avatar as a puppet, so a distinction is vital: the user is not his avatar. Also... we heard so many times about people that pretend to be someone they aren't, like a man pretending to be a woman, a young one pretending to be adult and so on, tempting with a beautiful avatar as an appealing bait, now to receive just gifts, now just to trick someone, now to try to damage someone. There are so many that everyone in Second Life should be on guard, although falling in love with a 3D modeled ghost perfectly made still happens often and, considering certain mental states and experience of those people who really fall in love with an avatar, this can't be treated lightly. Bottom line... simply saying "it's just a game" isn't correct. We don't interact with dolls with an artificial intelligence, but with real people that control pixel-made ghosts.

Altberg presents Project Sansar Writer : Lukemary Slade
E
bbe Altberg, Linden Lab Ceo, is sure that the virtual reality will feature, as already happened with platforms like Second Life, user-generated content. Speaking at Silicon Valley Virtual Reality Conference (SVVR) Altberg, short hair and black shirt Steve Jobs like, reiterated some points: . the new platform to which Linden Lab has been working for about a year and that for now has the code name “Project Sansar” while the final one is yet to be determined, will not be called SL2.0, to avoid confusion with Second Life, which being still“healthy” will remain active for several years next to the new platform; . both “Sansar”, which will open “to a limited number of first users” this summer, both Second Life are and will be fully compatible with 3D viewers like in

particular Oculus Rift (eve inf in Second Life “users experience is not the best” both because of some technical limitations of the Linden Lab’s platform and of the continuous development of 3D viewers); . “Sansar” unlike Second Life will be a platform “easier to use, fully scalable” and in which will be “easier find contents” that in Second Life often it is hard to find, contents that may be designed and implemented “in large scale” ie to be consumed by tens of thousands of users simultaneously and not from a few hundred people. Altberg, also answering questions from the audience, said that already now in Second Life there are exciting contents and activities ranging from RPG (like Insilico) to historical reproductions (as Berlin 1920), from meetings between people all over the world to creativity in fashion, art, customization of avatars and virtual environments. All this still generates a Gdp of about half a billion Us dollars a year inside the platform and last year generated about “60 million Us dollars of earnings for users”, some of which recorded
revenues of some “hundreds of thousands of dollars” selling contents inside the platform. Numers that Altberg think will grow again with the new platform, which would present fewer costs for users compared to the current and enable them to attract traffic to their activities in a much more significant way. There are also a number of problems in Second Life not completely solvable that “Sansar” hopefully won’t have: time frame rate is not sufficient to work with the most efficient devices, there are problems in the contents sometimes suboptimal since the users do not always know how to optimize them to better respond to the specific platform, there are compliance problems, for instance in the use of lindens, the virtual currency that can be converted into dollars, euro or any other currency in the world. “For 13 years we await the development of virtual reality, now it is coming and we will be ready” concluded Altberg. We of Mondivirtuali.it hope so highly, leaving the video below the duty to let you know the details of the Altberg’s

here are moments when it's nice to be alone and feel part of nature . A place where stay far from the madding crowd is Dawn of Radiance. The region is really well built, and full of hidden places to explore. A funny thing is that there seems to be a little bit of everything in this sim, rolling pastures, craggy cliffs and lovely beach areas. With cosy hidden spots, beautiful waterfalls, picturesque scenery, romantic picnics, and even cakes, this region is well worth a visit, and a perfect place to hang out with friends on a lazy day.
