VIRTUAL SECOND NIGHT Autumn has arrived! Dear readers, It’s Our 3rd Anniversary! Wow, is it really November already? We can’t believe how quickly this year’s going! This month is a particularly special one for us… it’s the 3rd anniversary of our magazine. When we started writing three years ago, never did we imagine that we would be where we are today. It’s been such a joyful, rewarding process. Without a doubt, the most precious part of creating a magazine has been the opportunities it’s given us to connect with beautiful intersting people across the world. To celebrate this birthday we decided to open our private land to our readers and share some of our pictures with them. Moreover people could visit the land covered with snow,

while we are waiting for the next Christmas! In the present issue you can find many interesting articles about the virtual worlds, such us a land where everyone could become like Indiana Jones, or about festival and Gacha events where find precious gifts, stunning photography, art and much more. Stay tunned!

The Pharaoh's Tomb Writer and photographer Zily Resident

A

long time ago a friend accompanied me to a special place and made me live an adventure likes Indiana Jones, that place was an ancient tomb of a Pharaoh located in the famous The Da Vinci Gardens SIM. This land already very famous is appreciated for a beautiful and romantic atmosphere and for that makes it a truly beautiful destination to visit and explore, but there isn't only this, in fact in these

explore, but there isn't only this, in fact in these gardens hides a gateway to the mysterious Pharaoh Tomb. For all young explorers is recommended to equip a torch, collect all your courage and go to discover the secrets of the tomb. With the right sky and a friendly company becomes an unforgettable experience.

35

36 | Virtual Second night - Issue 32 - November 2014

The tomb isn't gladly welcomes new visitors and it wouldn't surprise me to see, bats, snakes, scorpions, crocodiles or ... mummies, is an Egyptian tomb after all. It will not be easy, and an exploration of the crawling creatures aren't the only obstacle, in fact among the various rooms of the tomb will hide the deadly traps that will go more and more to make trouble for the explorers. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point a giant stone ball began to roll toward my direction to crush me. In the corridors of the tomb among a trap and another you can find a golden scarab and if you are lucky win Linden dollars, there will be more of a scattered throughout the tomb, so watch where you put your feet, but it's time to stop to reveal the secrets of this tomb and the rest is up to you to find out what hides the magnificent tomb of the Pharaoh. It is said that his tomb room is full of gold and treasures and exactly how the golden scarab if you are lucky you can win Linden dollars once uncovered his sarcophagus, but first you need to find a way to get to the room safely.

Certainly if you manage to get to the end of this adventure you will not forget it so easily, but it doesn't end there because around the great pyramid there is also the whole Egyptian ambience to visit and explore in search of secrets, for example the treasure chests. For those who want to enjoy an even more magical exploration it's available a flying carpet, or for who prefer to keep their feet on the ground after the adventure it's recommend the golden scarab beetle is comfortable, safe and perfect for feeling a true lord of Egypt. Also here these are romatinc areas and after a day of being chased by mummies, snakes and scorpions maybe a little relax is exactly what you need. The Da Vinci Gardens SIM is full of surprises, so don't be in a hurry to find them all and take your time to watch carefully everything that has to offer, but keep an eye on the golden scarabs because they can be anywhere and if the wheel of fortune turns in your favor you can make a small treasure. have in the virtual world. This time people are invited to play the role of a Paranormal Investigator who has arrived at The Carver Home to unveil its chilling secrets! At the arrival at the house the visitor will receive a package. This contains an HUD, which the hunter needs to wear to get instructions and to interact with the house. There is also a headset to wear which has a light on it to help along the way. Here you are some examples of the gifts: eyes and knife.

uthors such as Neil Gaiman and Russell Brand are reinventing the fairytale with gangsta rats, werewolves and warrior queens

Sometimes there are news in first time that strike our imagination. The news come from the Internet and involevs one of the most popular writers of the moment: Neil Gaiman. At the site of The Guardin we can read:

“He has just added a fairytale retelling, The Sleeper and the Spindle, to his list of books for younger readers. (...) The Sleeper and the Spindle is actually two stories – a “sort-of Snow White” meets an “almost Sleeping Beauty” – and it features Greenaway-winning Chris Riddell’s characteristically detailed and heavy-browed illustrations, always just the right side of grotesque, in black and white picked out with gold. In Gaiman’s story, the kiss that awakens the slumbering princess is not from a prince –

Virtual Seond night - Issue 32 - November 2014 |

princes remain firmly off stage, or dead in a thicket of roses – but from a young queen, who rises on her wedding day and dons chain mail to ride to the rescue. It’s not a love story, but a tale of courage, determination and disconcerting tragedy and terror.” We would like just remind this great writer with our image.

Virtual Second Night faces how to became a model and photographer for our magazine

B

eing a model is one of the most desired unskilled jobs in our virtual world, can be a very glamorous lifestyle, but it also involves hard work.

Models spend a lot of time on creating and posing their avatars, searching the perfect physical appearance to be appealing. More work needs to be done to search for the most appropriate accessories to complete outfits.

Becoming a good model, especially for photos in Second Life, is not so easy. It requires creativity and the ability to modify the avatar to meet the demands of the setting of the photo. Our magazine will soon open a new academy for those who desires works as model and photographer. My Virtual second night will offer courses and

I

n our favorite virtual grid is bursting a fever unusual and very contagious, something that just over a year began to come to life becoming a real habit.

What are we talking about? The answer is easy! Festivals and Gacha events are the right answer to this question. In this last year we have seen dozens of events that involved the largest majority of the virtual community, a great event to showcase talent and the best "products", but why these events are so successful?

81

82 | Virtual Second night - Issue 32 - November 2014

Virtual Seond night - Issue 32 - November 2014 |

Perhaps that is the theme of each event that changes from season to season, fashion fashion, leaving visitors amazed. Another explanation is: these events are "fast" and appealing that can reach all segments of customers, from the most wealthy to those with less. Good or bad these events can satisfy the shopping desires of each of us, at times questioning ourself fortune when threading the lindens in a gacha.

In October we visited the most prominent events: the Carnival Fantasy Gacha and Xiasumi School Festival. Both events are substantially different from each other but have one thing in common that is not easy to not see: the influx of people.

83

84 | Virtual Second night - Issue 32 - November 2014

Virtual Seond night - Issue 32 - November 2014 |

Being able to reach their regions has been a long and difficult labor, but in the end we also admired the bright world of gacha and stands ready to whisper maliciously "buy me!" The main theme of the Carnival Fantasy Gacha was "Magicians and Alchemists", many gacha were irresistible and certainly with attractive prizes although they weren't "rare", of course, the excitement of being able to win a not common prize is big, however you can not say not to be satisfied. On the other hand the Xiasumi School Festival is a tribute to the famous Japanese tradition of the school festival that wants to showcase the talent and skill of his students, but in our case was put to the test the community of SL' shopkeepers with products school-theme very interesting, from school uniforms, swimwear, electric guitars, clothes for sexy teacher.

85

86 | Virtual Second night - Issue 32 - November 2014

Virtual Seond night - Issue 32 - November 2014 |

We will have incoming new events, such as the charming "The Secret Affair", "The Enchantment" and many other events that will make us more curious than ever to try to take a walk to the new stands.

I

n recent days, I visited an interesting land : **Here, apart from the enchainting landscape, I could see two art exhibitions. During the visit I met the Owner, Vita Theas and talked a little with her. She explain me that the Wolves Land is dedicated to the solitary souls She has created firstly Wolves Land for herself, then she realised that nothing is really nice if you can't share So she decided to open the land to people, hoping they love too. Vita likes building very much and she made many nooks and crannies to enjoy and chill, cuddle or dance. At Wolves land there are often events, themed parties with DJ or singers. Vita Theas has also a fashion store, Just Imagine, is in the sky over the land. In the store - and in the Wolves cave as well - are also many gifts. Regarding art exbithions Vita informed me that she's taking care of Serena Arts Center since 2010. During the first 3 years Serena Arts Ctr was at Serena Balmoral. They hosted about one artist monthly. Lately, with more space available, she began hosting 2 per month - always free of charges. During the current year the land has being hosting 11 art exbithions. One of them was the Winner of the 1st Wolves Land Photo Contest, made on August for

all SL Residents, with photos taken at Wolves Land shown and voted on Vita Theas's Google+ page. Probably the contest will be

held next year too. At the moment Wolves land hosts two artists: Bachi Cheng and Javier Escudero Cuervas-Mons.

Virtual Seond night - Issue 32 - November 2014 |

Bachi Cheng' is Artist painter & designer RL & SL her pictures are colorful, naive, sometimes ironic, always exciting.

She declares “I love to paint Moments. Moments of life, Moments of Love, Moments so deep that you never want to forget them, Moments at

the edge of orgasm or despair, just life like we ought to live it, plainly. let me take you in the core of my Art “

The other artist you can admire until the end of November is Javier Escudero Cuervas-Mons. The painter has born in Madrid, Spain, he's also an historian and naval modeller. His naval models have been exhibited in The Universal Esposición of Seville and in Lisbon; and they are catalogued in many museums in Spain. At Wolves land he exhibits his “Ciudades Heridas, Wounded cities” dedicated to many wonderful cities destroyed by the barbarity of blood and fire. I hope I have aroused your curiosity!

Interviewto Chraeloos about ‌

L

ast October 18 was unveiled City Bhavana Ashram , I'm back to talk with Chraeloos about; in Sl are not many Ashrams or similar places, for what reason did you decide to found a new one? -It was a group effort between Swami Luminos, Szavanna, Rhiannon Dragoone and myself. We felt the desire to have an environment unique to SL that is inspired by RL ashrams in the sense that we are here to support spiritual and philosophical growth both short-term and long-term, depending on the individual interest. We all come from various different traditions and communities within SL and RL and felt that it would be nice to have a place where those of like-mind and similar interests could come together to relax, learn and grow. We are a group of long-term friends who were able to connect from all different places in the world, despite cultural and religious differences, thanks to the various communities in SL. Here at the ashram, we aim to work in cooperation with the already established communities to help avatars (and the people behind them) transcend the typical boundaries of race, age, religion, etc. and come to meet in a place where they are welcomed and encouraged to share their own beliefs while still being open to receiving others' thoughts. I visited the place; and inevitably the thought came back to the true Indian ashram. I would like you to tell me what are the objectives of these shared spaces and open to what and why. -I'm so glad the place resonated for you! Within the sim we have a few places aimed at different activities. We have a forest campsite meeting area where we hold regular philosophy discussions. There is a gallery and bonfire where we host dances, rituals, and artists who inspire some kind of contemplation or have

131

132 | Virtual Second night - Issue 32 - November 2014

a generally spiritual aim. At the main ashram building we have space for yoga, where we host yoga sessions as well as discussions on yoga-based topics. Across the hall we have a meditation room where there is always space for private meditation but we also have guided meditations and dharma talks. In the center we have a space for concerts and gatherings as we have a few pianists and jazz artists who play for us. We also have a cultural center in the sky where we have a stage, a library and a movie center. We hope that people will come to enjoy the space even when there isn't an event as there are many places for personal use as well as time with friends relaxing, chatting, etc. I read from your notes that you read meetings on topics and authors dealing with the "discovery and nurturing of one's self"; could you tell me something about it, related to the experience in SL? -All of us who came together to create this wonderful space have come from various different backgrounds and locations RL. It was through SL that we connected and have learned so much from each other both spiritually and secularly. We all strongly believe that it is through platforms such as this, where the stereotypes and biases drop away, that we can transcend labels of religions and other traditions and instead get to the basic teachings that are found among all traditions worldwide throughout history that of cultivating heart/mind. The name of the ashram itself speaks to this; "cittabhavana" means cultivating heart/mind. Whether or not you believe in a self/ Self, we can all agree that there is some benefit to working on inner growth. As is commonly quoted, all change starts from within. As human beings, we have a responcibility to ourselves and those around us, the environment even, to be the best we can be. That doesn't mean that we have to strive for some ideal, but that we can be aware in each moment to allow for conscious-being. By that I mean being able to give yourself and therefore

others the care and attention that you deserve. There have been studies done that show that any practice our avatars do is mirrored in our physical body. People who have physical limitations are able to experience and explore things they may not be able to in RL. So, for these and many other reasons we believe that SL has the ability to reach a wide-range of people in ways that perhaps they wouldn't be comfortable exploring in public spaces - such as meditation, yoga, and other methods of self-inquiry from art and music to discussions. It is our hope to provide space for people to develop these interests and expand their boundaries from the comfort of their own homes, with no monetary obligation. It is perhaps too often these days that it is advertised to "Get Enlightened! Only $99.99 for the box set". Here, at the Ashram, we offer no expectations (beyond compassion for your fellow avatars), no "quick enlightenment" program, only the opportunity to look inside and see what nourishes you, and then see that we are here to provide that space for you to grow in. We have the power to teach each other so much about ideas and practices that perhaps we wouldn't encounter in RL. Please come to share your perspective and take in the beautiful space we have created for you. We have a calendar on our blog:

Our public group is Creativity; Karma, and we also have a subscribo-matic for those who don't have group space but still with to receive notices! So...if you are interested in these issues stay tuned.
