VIRTUAL SECOND NIGHT Hello dear readers, Dear readers, we are to the end of this year and many facts about our real life had inevitably left a great wound in our hearts. We want to give a positive message after so much suffering, everyone acts according to his own will, the time we have available to us all it shouldn't be wasted in a negative and evil way, I refer to what happened in Paris, but not only. There are too many injustices, too much hatred, too much jealousy, because humanity should reflect the time each of us is just to be wasted in nothing. We have to be creative, to be open to diversity, to found inspiration from everyone because only knowledge enriches us, these words must be apply in an environment like Second Life, our virtual world, but behind it there are real people, who are aware of what they do, for better or for worse. Follow us because we will update you on the future of virtual worlds. So stay with us and read the magazine! Happy reading !!!

Mesh technology

is something that really changed radically Second Life Writer and photographer Mafalda Diesel Mattew Northman

M

esh technology is something that really changed radically Second Life, after the limits imposed by the sculpted objects, which however bypassed the poor graphic aspect of something made with only basic prims. With mesh importing and a bit of modeling abilities everyone can create everything needed for a cosplay, of course this after declaring in advance that you will be the owner of the intellectual property behind the object, this done by a questionnaire. However, after the experience with copybot, there's the experience with another phenomenon, the ripped mesh. What is ripped mesh in shorts? Simply stealing the model from another source (a videogame, a program or other contents) and selling it like you did it. Clothes, accessories, furniture and decoration or even entire buildings can be "ripped" for selling purposes, mostly because of some factors:

24 | VSN - Issue 43 - November 2015

popularity, because something popular is sold more easily than something original; quickness, ripping mesh is a faster way than trying to build it by yourself; quality, because every model in a video game takes a lot of time of work by professional and the final result will always be of good quality compared to the work of an amateur. How can you spot or identify them, then? It's easy if you know the source, but there are other ways, for example if in the texture of a costume you also find something weird, like a logo or a face. How can you contrast them? This is something harder. If you are the owner of the intellectual property of an object you have to follow some steps to make a legal action, otherwise it's better than you contact the owner if you know him/her. Basically in SL you can't do much more, there isn't even a report for this, since the questionnaire quoted before should act as "In Second Life there aren't model thefts". It's shameful and sad, but it's true, ripping mesh is something that happens too often. However there are those who will endeavor to create something original and beautiful I can remember or look like the hero or protagonist of the video games we love. This is called cosplay and it's very easy to make many people happy, especially in a virtual world like SL: the creators who are committed for days deserve to feel gratified to be able to create something beautiful and original without "steal" anything to anyone.

26 | VSN - Issue 43 - November 2015

It takes patience, imagination and even passion to be able to continue along this difficult road to the finish line but you can get great results from being able to have something that you really want without running into complaints of copyright and any other problem with the law. The cosplay Second Life is beautiful if done with commitment and originality because otherwise follow the "easy way out" can only bring problems. For this reason it is always the right place effort and commitment of those who want to offer their work without having to use alternative methods, because otherwise what fun is it?

INSILICO

The most popular cyberpunk land of SL writer and photographer : Zily Resident

I

NSILICO has six years worth of lore that it respects, and it’s one of the most popular e longest running cyberpunk/spacepunk in Second Life. INSILICO is not just about roleplay, it’s about supporting Second Life community, bloggers, models, shoppers or shop owners, artists, filmers and simple visitors are always welcome! But, please be mindful of the sim, don’t disturb the roleplay in progress or break into rentals thoght.

78 | VSN - Issue 43 - November 2015

I

n roleplay they strive fo realism: furries, mythological creatures, alien, super powers and meta gaming is not allowed. Character sheets can help you flesh out your idea for a character, then be shared among others. The K10 meter is strong suggestion for use in roleplay, but needed in combat. The years is 2485 and it’s a floating city above of the ruins of the once inhabitable Earth. Humans, mutants, cyborgs and androids now lives on these floting cities around earth, INSILICO is but one of these. Run by Gemini Cybercenitcs, INSILICO is protected by Insilico Security, IPS protect the city and other corporation such as Tokuma Heavy Industries work within the city for a brighter future. For help the new players or vistitors here a simple description of playable races, in land you can find the full decription and other informations. Humans haven’t changed much over the curse of few centuries, even in the face of radical technological innovation they still clings to it’s own definition. For all their strenghts and weaknesses they remain the same for better or worse. Clones are copies of human begings who either through their own means have decided to duplicate theri genetic code or have had it done againts their will. Clones rappresent a way to cheat death to allow the rich to extend theri lives. Fabricants are biologicals androids. With continued development in the fields of ro80 | VSN - Issue 43 - November 2015

botics and artificial intelligence, it has become possible to create increasingly more human-like machines and programas. All species have members that manifest divergent or abnormal genetic varations, they are called mutants. Human are no difference. The distinction between human and machine has become blurred as some have chosen or forsed to incorpored the techonological into they physiology, so the become cyborgs. Robots are completely machine, tasked with daunting work that humans can not or will not do. Their brain is a processors and their frame is completely inorganic. At first it may be a little confused because the lands are really big and you can get lost, but with the note that you can grab at the poster of the land you recevie a note with a list of all the landmark and it’s reallu helpful. The most popular location is the city, but there is also Mars to visit and explore and other location off-city. For the one is interested there is the posibility to pay for a rent and for other there is a zone full of shops with a cybergpunk theme. In the end it’s a greats land, maybe if you don’t know it you can’t appreciate what immediately thats why I recommend to grab all the informations before or you will get lost like me.

Fable's Dream Azzurrina

Writer and photographer : Mafalda Diesel

ou know how born a legend? On a true story. The dynamic is roughly that of an ordinary childhood game. Do you remember? A sentence is whispered from ear of the first near and so on; last it will not come close to the original, but undergoing an arbitrary modification. The same thing happened (and still happens to the mouth of the visitors to Rocca) with the story of Gwendolyn. To avoid confusing conclusions, we will narrate her story. In a beautiful castle, still open, has been witness to the tragedy that has devastated the lives of the family of Ugolinuccio, then, the Lord of the place. But back to the time when the events took place: the second half of the fourteenth century.

I

n the castle lived a wealthy family, Malatesta, lords of the place. Life was peaceful, the couple lived the happiness of the birth of a beautiful baby girl, Gwendolyn but fate played with their lives, because Gwendolyn was born with white hair. The Lords, to make her survive, colored her hair with a herbal-based substance that darkened her hair, but in contact with sunlight exuded the blue reflections. From this anomaly the child was named Azzurrina. The parents to protect her decided she ever leave the castle, but they tried in every way to brighten her days. One day, during a heavy storm, Azzurrina played with a red ball made of cloth and rope, as was customary at that time. Suddenly the ball slipped out of her hand rolling along a staircase leading to the cellars of the castle. Gwendolyn went down the steps

with the intention of recovering her toy. The guards didn't go with her, because the staircase leading to the basement and to the ice, there was no danger nor other outputs. But a cry rent the air! The two soldiers rushed toward the ladder. But there was no trace of Azzurrina. She was vanished. For many days, the castle, the campaigns and the entire village, were sifted in a desperate search for the child. But she's never seen again. From that tragic June 21, every five years, on the night of the summer solstice, in the castle of Montebello, the Azzurrina's phantom appears. You can hear it laugh, talk or cry...

tupidly he headed in that direction without notice that the floor was no longer covered with powder but by something more slippery. He had his heart beating fast in his chest and the only thing he could hear was himself breathing and soon arrived at the place where he saw that shadow, but a second later he caught in his throat a shriek of terror. The body of a woman was waiting for him, his face a mask of pure horror, the black mouth dripping with blood and flesh as his body decomposed and skeletal semi awaited his last victim. She had her legs and arms bound to the loops, as well as his throat but seemed to be angry, voracious and bloody. The boy had no time to escape that he was seized by the bony fingers, his evil grin was opening like a black hole and with excruciating pain she felt his flesh torn from the bone. The calm returned to Charlingtons' Manor. The only thing that remained was a flashlight abandoned in the attic...
