Unlike other ketogenic plans, Sisson teaches readers the real secret: becoming ‘fat-adapted’ before entering full nutritional ketosis. This allows your body to burn fat more efficiently, resulting in sustained weight loss over the long-term. This new cookbook contains a recap of the ketogenic eating plan, along with tips on how to maintain cyclic ketogenesis, meal plans, pantry stocking advice, and delicious recipes. All recipes are free of processed grains, sugars, and refined vegetable oils. Mark Sisson is the author of The Primal Blueprint and The Keto Reset Diet, a former endurance athlete, and a leading voice in the evolutionary health movement. With over 2 million unique monthly visitors, his blog MarksDailyApple.com is one of the top-ranked health websites online. • 150 new ketogenic recipes, all with full colour photography • World-class advice from a bestselling author and professional athlete THE

SIMPLE. DELICIOUS. EFFECTIVE.

KETO RESET DIET

Mounting scientific research suggests that eating a ketogenic diet could represent one of the greatest nutritional breakthroughs of our time — and that it might be the healthiest and most effective weight-loss strategy ever. Going ‘keto’ enables you to break free from the disastrous effects of carbohydrate dependency and reset your metabolism to promote metabolic flexibility — where your body learns to burn fat instead of sugar for energy, even when you take a break from the plan. In The Keto Reset Diet, Mark Sisson presents a unique, step-by-step, scientifically validated approach for succeeding with keto without the risks of attrition that come with a shortcut approach. You’ll use keto as a lifelong tool to stay trim, healthy and energetic, while still enjoying rich, high-satiety foods, and gracefully weathering occasional departures and indulgences. With detailed guidance, daily meal plans, and more than 100 delicious ketofriendly recipes, this is the definitive guide to help the keto beginner or the experienced health enthusiast understand the what, why, and how to succeed with ketogenic eating. ‘The exploding popularity of keto has resulted in excessive hype and ill-advised attempts to shortcut the process of fat-adaptation. The Keto Reset Diet takes a thoughtful, patient, lifestyle-focused approach to bring you all the health benefits without the burnout.’

—MELISSA HARTWIG, NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR AND WHOLE30 COFOUNDER ’Mark Sisson’s big-picture strategy combining sensible dietary transformation with exercise, sleep, and stress-management practices ensures that you will stick with it, and have fun while you’re at it!’

Florence Cherruault established The Pickle House in Hackney, London, in 2014. Having been introduced to the idea of drinking pickle juice in New York, she wanted to create pickle juice recipes that were specifically made for cocktails and smoothies (rather than just using the brine left over from a jar of pickles). • People are turning to pickle and brine-based cocktails to naturally combat the dehydrating effect of alcohol • Shrubs (fruity, infused vinegars, often cooked down into a syrup) are very trendy • Drinking vinegars and pickle juice can sooth muscle cramps, aid digestion and gut health, help with weight loss and regulate blood sugar levels

LEMON

NEIL CHAPMAN Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat by Guerlain

Mediterraneo by Carthusia 1920

In many ways for me the most perfect lemon scent, Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat, one of the lesser-known Guerlains, captures the soul of the lemon and the lemon tree in an exquisitely clear and diaphanous manner, combining citron lemon (a variety of lemon prized more for its fragrant skin than its pulp) and bergamot but no base notes. While you luxuriate in the pleasure of those first few moments – and no other lemon scent, in my view, has a more perfect top note – the perfume, containing only natural citrus, is unfortunately already on its way to disappearing. This was apparently quite deliberate on the part of Guerlain, though, as it was intended as no more than a wakening spritz, a burst of citrus. The scent is also recommended as a way of layering and boosting your other perfumes – particularly if they contain a lemon note – without interfering with their progression on the skin.

In aromatherapeutic use, the oil of lemon, extracted from the fruit’s skin, has very powerfully cleansing and revivifying properties, both physically and psychologically. It is considered by many cultures to be something of a panacea. While sometimes used in the ‘lemon torte’ manner by perfumers, contrasting the mouthpuckering tang of fresh lemon peel with custards, mousse or vanillic cream in the manner of the finest cheesecakes – most famously in Guerlain’s Shalimar, which contrasts a very prominent lemon top note with sensuous balsams and vanilla in the base – the majority of lemon-centred fragrances are, as you would expect, much more zingy and fresh: immediately head-focusing and perfect for bright mornings.

Acqua Viva by Profumum

2006

Amalfi lemons, sometimes known as the ‘Queen of Lemons’, are grown on terraced hillsides in this picturesque southern region of Italy and are at least double the size of other varieties, with a thick and wrinkled skin that produces the finest lemon essential oil, which infuses this perfume. Blended with a light floral back tone of Sicilian broom flower and anchored in a harmonious cypress and cedar base, for true lemon lovers, this is a delight.

Like eating lemon sorbet on the balcony of a villa in Capri in the mid-afternoon sun, Mediterraneo is a sheeny, soapy lemon scent with green tea and floral undertones that cools like a gentle summer breeze. Also available in convenient solid perfume, this is a very likeable, gentle lemon perfume and mood booster that you can carry about like sunshine in your pocket.

IN SEARCH OF YOUR SIGNATURE SCENT

A quietly gentleman-ish English idyll, inspired by the grand, stately home of Bleinheim Palace in Oxfordshire, ancestral home of Winston Churchill and the other Dukes of Marlborough, Blenheim Bouquet is a discreet and muted coniferous citrus. Refined but faint, this scent has a dourness, very removed from reality ( just like the upper classes who have always ruled the land): a consummately realised contusion of lemon, pine, pepper and lime, and a subtle sun-dried lavender.

OTHER LEMON PERFUMES

1969

Similar to other citrus scents from this period – such as the beautiful, but now vanished Quiproquo by Grès (1975 – also by perfumer Robert Gonnon) and Lancôme’s male version of O, Trophée (1982) – these perfumes share the same refreshing lemon, green leaf top notes (a quite different façet of the lemon tree to the fruit), and effortless, balanced finesse. But only O de Lancôme has that soft, panoramic serenity that seems to contain every aspect of summer, from the joy of intense sunlight as you run and tumble on the flower-edged garden lawns, to the cool comfort of cotton blankets as the sun is going down in the late light, and the inherent, unavoidable dread that it is all about to pass.

haughty, almost arrogant, decadent, seventies lemon chypre with notes of melon, jasmine, and honeysuckle. Agua de Colonia Concentrada by Alvarez Gomez 1912

This most bitter and involved of all the citrus fruits, with its thick skin, oily pores, so fragrant yet almost sulphurous, is in some ways a difficult fruit that famously interferes with medicines in the body and yet simultaneously is also a cure for hangovers, dizziness and can even alleviate depression. Grapefruit is used less frequently than other citrus notes as a star player, though when blended well, this full and solar citrus note can be quite emboldening.

Use this charm to send out magnetic signals and attract love in your direction. Keep the charm on you, in your bag or pinned to the inside of your clothing or under your pillow, for whenever you feel in need of some extra love from the universe. Add some drops of attraction oil to it on a new moon if it needs a little feeding and super power. This charm works as a strong pulling power for calling in and attracting love into your life. Set the scene for this spell, as its a potent one. Don’t target one specific person with this charm, you may have someone in mind, but you must not limit yourself, the universe may have someone waaaaaay better on its way to you!

YO U W I L L N E E D :

cutting of clothing (something that you have worn, unwashed) from you and your partner pen 2 cinnamon sticks short piece of red string 1 tablespoon orris root powder 2 fresh rosemary sprigs small jar of honey

If you are dating someone who is making you question their devotion to you, use this spell but with caution. Refer to the Love pendulum (see pages 28–29) for reassurance over when to use this spell. 1. Write your name on the cutting from your clothing and your partner’s name on the cutting from theirs. 2. Hold the cinnamon sticks together and wrap both pieces of fabric around them with your names on the outside, then bind the bundle with the red string.

3. Add the orris root powder and rosemary sprigs to the jar of honey. Stir clockwise, and, as you do so, speak your intention to the honey. Add the bound cinnamon sticks and seal the jar. 4. You can either choose to keep the jar and continue to feed it with a pinch of orris root and rosemary whenever you wish to renew your insurance policy, or remove the bound cinnamon sticks and bury them beneath a birch or apple tree on the seventh night.

4. Continue to sew up the bag until it is fully sealed.

MEANING Receiving this card is often a sign that you are (or should be) releasing your sense of control over your emotional, primordial inner world. You have the potential to access deep spiritual knowing at this time, but journeying to the underworld of the individual and collective unconscious means stirring up old trauma and feeling cut off from your truth. It can also mean connecting to the truth, and that’s something few can do. Look at your dreams and find synchronistic patterns in things. Explore your unconscious energy, then release it in a healthy way. That’s when answers can come to you.

Italy beat the 10 men of France in a penalty shootout. Would France have won that World Cup if Zidane had stayed on? It is a question that will remain unanswered. The French press showed their disappointment with a series of critical headlines the following day, but the general mood among the French people was a supportive one. Thousands chanted Zidane’s name at the French team’s homecoming, while President Jacques Chirac said the country was “extremely proud” of its captain.

And Other True Golf Stories Mike Clayton and Charles Happell

April ISBN 9781743794357 £14.99 | Paperback 304pp | 234 x 153 mm Text only

draft cover

A first-person investigation of a disturbing new online reality that goes well beyond cyberbullying In 2013, Ginger Gorman was trolled. She received scores of hateful tweets, including a death threat. Once the terror subsided, she was curious. Who were these trolls? Over the next five years, she spoke to psychologists, trolling victims, law enforcement, academics and the trolls themselves. She made shocking new discoveries. Syndicates of organised predator trolls systematically set out to disrupt and disturb. Some want to highlight alleged left-wing bias, or bring down capitalism, and others simply want to have fun, even if it means destroying the victim’s life. Gorman maps a cohort of men who feel marginalised and disenfranchised, and are using the internet to express themselves. Troll Hunting is an important window into the mindset and motivation behind this modern scourge. Ginger Gorman is an award-winning journalist based in Canberra, Australia. • One of the first books to comprehensively document trolling • Author was trolled herself, triggered by a story she covered back in 2010. Two men she interviewed turned out to be international paedophiles, and are now in a US prison. • Hugely topical subject in the UK, following publication of Jon Ronson’s So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed and Radio 4’s #takebackcontrol movement
