John Beaufoy Publishing It’s my great pleasure to introduce our complete catalogue of new and backlist titles for 2019. The past year has been an exciting one for JB Publishing as we celebrated the company’s tenth anniversary with memorable dinners in Singapore and at the British Birdwatching Fair in Rutland, when many of our authors from around the world were able to be present. Now we’re embarking on our second decade of publishing with more than 120 titles in print, and a wide range of new titles in our core publishing categories of natural history and travel coming out in 2019. Highlights of the travel programme include two magnificent coffee-table books for the Christmas season, The World’s Great Rail Journeys and The World’s Great Dive Sites (see page 2), together with revised and updated editions of eight of the bestselling titles in our well-established series of Enchanting pictorial travel paperbacks (page 7). In the natural history section, we’ll publish Nigel Hicks’ stunning portfolio of Philippine wildlife in Wild Philippines, alongside revised editions of the earlier titles in the series, Wild Malaysia, Wild Sabah, Wild Singapore and Wild Sri Lanka (page 32). There are highly informative birdwatching site guides to India and to New Zealand, and Sue Taylor’s entertaining account of her birding experiences in Birding Australia’s Islands (page 33). There are two ground-breaking illustrated field guides, Birds of Malaysia and Singapore and Birds of Mongolia (page 34), and six additions to our rapidly expanding series of Naturalists’ Guides with Birds of Fraser’s Hill & the Malaysian Highlands, Garden Flowers of India, Insects of Australia, Snakes of Australia, Trees of Southeast Asia and Trees of Sri Lanka (pages 35–41).

·BRITAIN & EUROPE· LONDON BIRD ATLAS

Ian Woodward, Richard Arnold & Neil Smith Published jointly with the London Natural History Society, this atlas is an authoritative and detailed account of just under 200 of the regularly occurring birds of London. It provides the most up-to-date analyses of the changes to London’s birds based on a comprehensive survey run in conjunction with the British Trust for Ornithology’s National Bird Atlas project. The atlas brings together into a single volume the analyses of millions of bird records and research to specify which birds are doing well, which ones have declined or held steady, and what the changes have been in relation to previous distribution surveys. It is also the first London bird atlas to include maps of bird abundance and to show the distribution of wintering birds. It includes information on where to watch birds and other wildlife in London. It is richly illustrated with images from a team of contributing photographers.

The second part, Jambudvipa-Land, is about day-to-day life (Jambudvipa is the traditional name for our world). It covers the influence of the spirits, and the ways in which people seek to control good luck and fortune. ·DIVING & MARINE LIFE· UNDERWATER GUIDE TO THE RED SEA

·HISTORY· AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY OF CAMBODIA

Lawson Wood

Philip Coggan

The Red Sea has over 1,000 species of invertebrate and over 200 species of soft and hard coral, forming the basis of a marine eco-system that includes 1,100 species of fish, of which just under 20% are endemic. The high level of endemism is one of the main factors that makes scuba diving in Egypt so attractive. Divided into three parts, the book provides a general introduction to diving and snorkelling in the Red Sea including what to expect and where to base yourself; a guide to the best sites for diving and snorkelling; and a photographic identification of 280 of the most common species of marine life covering fish, invertebrates, corals and megafauna. For all those who plan to spend time in or on the waters of the Red Sea, this is the perfect, pocket-sized guide.

Beginning with the earliest kingdoms before 800 AD, tracking through Angkor and the centuries of greatness, to the centuries of crisis from 1400–1860, then on to the influence of the French, followed by the disastrous Khmer Rouge and finishing with the UN and Hun Sen, this fully illustrated history looks at the changing fortunes of Cambodia from prehistory to the present day.
