01 Artisan Alley Apartments
Fall 2023 || Advanced Arch Design || Emily Andersen Partners: Alissa Valch, Angela Vu
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Artisan Alley Apartments looks to provide a space for makers to thrive. This space is catered to those who work from home and would want continue to pursue a passion or add a second source of income via making goods. Large amentity spaces are provided for the six types of makers: arts, culinary, fabrication, textiles, welding, and wood working. This allows for users to collaborate and learn new skills from others without having to leave the site. Retail spaces are also located in this complex throughout the central part of the site to draw others in.
02 Ashleaf Elementary
Fall 2022 || Collaborate || Darin Hanigan & Vanessa Schutte Partners: Sarah Johnson, Abby Mowbray, Jade Filbey DLR Design Studio Scholarship Winner
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Located in Box Elder, South Dakota, Ashleaf Elementary uses free address learning where students nor teachers own a space, but rather move throughout different size classrooms during the day. Six pods were created, one pre-k, one kindergarten, and four with mixture of grades one-five. This creates a mentoring opportunity, as the younger students can learn from the older ones. Ashleaf also focuses on the idea of a small town school, and that is where the Main Street began. Using one corridor to connect not only the pods but exploritory and the exterior allows for collaboration and communication between all students no matter the time of day. The site allows for that collaboration to continue on the exterior as well, through classrooms, an outdoor cafeteria, and STEM spaces.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In a post-pandemic world, many offices are opting to utilize a hybrid work schedule, where workers spend half of the week working from home and the other half in the office. This program was designed to optimize the time spent in the office, with four different collaboration spaces created: inform, do, think, and connect. Each space has a different function, varying from sharing information to groups of people, to spontaneous interactions. This office is located in Chicago, Illinois, along the Chicago River. The exterior shell was created using the art of placing. Large windows were placed into the facade to highlight the sacredness of the surrounding context, as gems are placed into jewlery to highlight its sacredness.

04 Precedent Mockup
Spring 2020|| Ideate || Hannah Schafers
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In a 12x6 foot plot, the idea is to take the most important ideas from the precedent building and merge them all together. It is important to consider color, materials, joint details, hierarchy, and overall layout. The precedent used is the Ford House by Ed Ford. The Ford House focuses on the juxaposition of wood and steel, along with using vibrant colors to highligh those special places.
