CHILD RESCUE INTERNATIONAL IN COMMUNITY July 2015 Child Rescue International (CRI) in Community is a long name for a program with a long reach throughout much of Eastern Europe. It is a real help for poor, neglected, hungry, often abandoned and desperate children. CRI in Community has an impact on these children’s lives because it provides for them spiritually, emotionally, educationally and materially. The good news is that all it takes to get a child started into the program is $64.

Moldova: Facing Huge Child Abandonment Problem According to some statistics, every tenth child in Moldova has one parent or both living and working abroad. While some do contribute to the welfare of their children, many do not, essentially abandoning their own children. Hence the strong need for our program.

In Moldova, abandonment has increased considerably and as a consequence homelessness, crime, poor health, and even suicide are common amongst these children. While local authorities have expressed concerns, they are doing little to improve the situation. The phenomenon of children left without parental care is not unique to Moldova but here it is especially serious, and will only become more pronounced in the next few years. Adding to the problem are huge numbers of children with parents, while not migrated out of Moldova, who have simply abandoned their children to orphanages.

designed to provide a safe haven, as well as good meals and Christian fellowship. In 2009, MWB in Moldova launched the first CRI in Community Center. Today, there are 20 centers throughout the country, with over 2,000 children in regular attendance. These children need help, support, tuition, medical, and social assistance if they are ever going to break the cycle of poverty and despair that can swallow them up and ruin their lives. MWB’s Community Centers are a life-boat for these children. Each $64 we receive will feed, clothe and help protect a child for 2 months. It does not stop there though … we aim to improve a child’s immediate quality of life as well as equip them for their future. Will you join with us for only $64 to help us give these children that support?

Romania: A Country of Children without Parents Poverty has transformed Romania into a country with huge numbers of children without parents. Officially, over 85,000 children have at least one parent working abroad. However, the number of children left behind by parents who work illegally in EU countries is much higher and unknown, as people can come and go as they please.

The more fortunate of these children are cared for by grandparents or relatives, but even so many share very poor living conditions. Where parents are present, often they are alcoholics who can’t or won’t provide the care, support and love that they should for their children. MWB has always been sensitive to the needs of these children and together with local churches, created Community Centers that have programs and workshops

The latest census counts 3.2 million children aged 0-14. Most Romanian children come from very poor families and have serious social challenges to overcome including: • illiterate parents who have no work or only low-paid jobs • education is undervalued • families where most basic needs remain unfulfilled • household chores are age-inappropriate and include hard work in the field or full supervision of younger siblings Most of these children drop out of or fail at school; they are depressed, absent, antisocial, lonely, rebellious and impulsive. They live in their own world rather than face reality, and lack the ability to adapt to life’s circumstances and requirements. They have very limited chances and resources to improve their lives. And when they grow up, they will have their own children, and these future children will be raised in similar conditions to those their parents grew up in, thus continuing the cycle of despair. Of course, no one can replace a parent; their love, hugs or the sound of their voice. But we try through CRI in Community to address the problems of these kids. Providing summer camps, birthday parties, celebrations of Christmas and Easter, scholarships and lots of food, clothing, shoes, eye glasses and love … with these programs, we attempt to ease the effects of parental absence and reduce their sense of loneliness, guilt, lack of trust in adults and excessive selfcondemnation. Just think what your $64 could do for these children.

If you do (or a niece, nephew, or other loved one) try substituting their names for the names of the children in the following story. How would you feel if your kids lived like this? It makes me very sad when I put the names of my own children there. Cristi is an 11 year old boy whose life is relegated to abandonment, poverty, rejection and desperation. His mother worked in Greece for most of his youth

When she finally came home, she was seriously injured in a bus accident, losing a leg and becoming permanently invalid. His father reacted by abandoning them all. Cristi cares for his mother and 6 year old brother Vladimir.

And now his mother is dying from cirrhosis, an alcoholic due to the despair and guilt she lives with for not being able to care for her children. Cristi will soon be the sole support for his brother. “It will be awful for us to remain orphans, when my mother won’t be anymore. Now she advises, teaches us how to do and arrange things. She inspires us with strength when she thanks us for everything we do for her and she says that without us, she would not be able to survive,” Cristi confessed, keeping tears from welling up on his sad face. The three share one room in an old house they inherited from the mother’s parents. The walls are slowly collapsing and the roof needs replacing; there is no glass in the windows.

Cristi goes daily to a boarding school where he saves his meals and brings the food home to share with his mother and brother. Cristi’s younger brother doesn’t go to school yet. He stays at home, taking care of his mother and waiting for Cristi to bring food home for them.

At such an early age, these children have already experienced how difficult and pitiless life can be. They need to be helped and lifted up. They need to know that God has not forgotten them, but that He loves them with an everlasting love. They need to feel they are not alone in this big world. We pray that doors open up to them to receive the help they so richly deserve. $64 from you would just be the right thing to do. Thank you for all your support! Blessings
