Family Strong Series “A Strong Army Depends on Strong Army Families”

Post-DEPLOYMENT FAMILY STRONG SERIES Family Strong Hawaii is a collaborative effort between several agencies that provide ongoing support and services to Soldiers and Families throughout the deployment cycle. The Family Strong Series workshops, part of Family Strong Hawaii, are offered in small groups in an interactive format. This program represents general classes offered jointly and each agency has additional workshops and support services that can be accessed with each respective program.

Money Talk:* Couples address household budgets, the household money manager role, the use of "I language", the psychology behind spending behaviors, and practical exercises to guide them through reintegration.

Limit: 20 participants Healthy Communication and Conflict Resolution:** Communication is more than just talking and listening. Different communication styles will be examined to identify the most effective communication techniques for you and your spouse.

Limit: 10 Couples Five Love Languages for Singles: (single Soldiers)** How to communicate love and affection; “How Not to Marry a Jerk�.

Limit: 20 participants Five Love Languages for Couples:** Learn how to communicate your love and affection so your significant other hears you.

Limit: 10 couples Stress, PCSing & ETSing:* Soldiers and families prepare for a stress-free PCS move. Receive tips and tools on how to manage stress and make the PCS move successful.

R&R Pre-DEPLOYMENT R &R Couples Communication:* R&R visits are short yet often packed with planned activities. Learn how to include quality communication into your schedule can help you have an enjoyable and meaningful time together.

Limit: 20 participants Preparing your child for R&R: (for parents)* Deployments, in and of themselves, are difficult on children. Preparing your children for R&R can be one of the most challenging issues of a deployment. Learn tips on how to help your children re-establish a relationship with a parent they know is leaving again.

REINTEGRATION-Prep Warrior Returns, The Journey Begins:*/*** Typical post-deployment stress reactions and their impact on daily living, interacting and communicating will be discussed. Group will review what families can do to support adjustments and cope with their own stress reactions.

Limit: 20 participants Super Parent – Preparing for Soldier Return:***/* Issues regarding stress reactions, normal post-combat adjustments, and re-establishing roles associated with reintegration will be discussed.

Super Partner – Preparing to be a Couple Again:***/* An interactive group focusing on normal challenges couples experience with reintegration, navigating relationship changes, and re-establishment of a healthy relationship.

Super Kids – Preparing for Parent Return:***/* Children and adolescents will participate in activities to help them explore their reactions to their parent's upcoming return, begin preparation, and learn practice healthy strategies to help them through this period.

Preparing Children for Deployment:***/* Simultaneous parent and child groups are followed by larger combined groups where families are assisted with creating family plans that teach both parents and children how to maintain positive connections and healthy coping during deployment.

Child Group: Three age groups offered: 6-8 year old, 9-12 year old, 13+ year old. Limit:5-12 youth/class.

Relaxation Techniques:* Understand the practice and importance of relaxation in coping with life’s stressors through hands-on training and practical skills. Students will receive an overview of basic relaxation techniques, and will have the opportunity to practice the beginning steps toward maintaining life balance.

Limit: 15 participants Super Parenting during Deployment: (Parents/Caregivers)***/* Enhance your healthy parenting skills, learn child development expectations, ways to support healthy childhood expression, coping skills, and opportunities for family strengthening and growth.

Money Talk:* This a is a one-of-a-kind financial brief that addresses couple communication before reintegration. The spouse is given valuable tools to conduct the "money talk" conversation so expectations of financial issues are addressed prior to the Soldier's return.

Limit: 20 participants Coping & Building Social Networks:*/** Construct a personalized stress management plan, including coping skills and empowerment strategies related to all phases of deployment. Examine methods to build positive connections with others and establish supportive social networks.

Activities focus on maintaining healthy connections, communication, and coping.

Spiritual Resiliency:** Explore Faith Based Coping skills in relation to the Army’s Life style. Get in touch with your sources of stress, your traumatic experiences, and Socialized loneliness while applying a Spiritually Based Coping Skills Process.

Phone Conflict Management:** Couples facing stress, anxiety, loneliness, and financial management concerns seek peaceful resolution within telephone conversation.
