Post-DEPLOYMENT

FAMILY STRONG HAWAII Family Strong Hawaii is a collaborative effort between several agencies that provide ongoing support and services to Soldiers and Families throughout the deployment cycle. The workshops are offered in small groups in an interactive format. This program represents general classes offered jointly and each agency has additional workshops and support services that can be accessed with each respective program.

Money Talk:* Couples address household budgets, the household money manager role, the use of "I language", the psychology behind spending behaviors, and practical exercises to guide them through reintegration. Limit: 20 participants Healthy Communication and Conflict Resolution:** Communication is more than just talking and listening. Different communication styles will be examined to identify the most effective communication techniques for you and your spouse. Limit: 10 Couples Battlemind for Spouses, Post-Deployment: (Soldiers welcome)* How do you and your Soldier join together your newly established deployment skills? Learn how to negotiate new roles and responsibilities with minimal conflict. Limit: 10 couples Five Love Languages for Singles: (single Soldiers)** How to communicate love and affection; “How Not to Marry a Jerk�. Limit: 20 participants

Limit: 10 couples New Parents 101:* New or first time parents with children ages 0-12 months will discuss expectations and different developmental milestones of their child. Limit: 20 participants

Super Partner - Preparing to be a Couple Again:*** An interactive group focusing on normal challenges couples experience with reintegration, navigating relationship changes, and re-establishment of a healthy relationship. Limit: 10 participants

R &R Couples Communication:* R&R visits are short yet often packed with planned activities. Learn how to include quality communication into your schedule can help you have an enjoyable and meaningful time together. Limit: 20 participants Preparing your child for R&R: (for parents)* Deployments, in and of themselves, are difficult on children. Preparing your children for R&R can be one of the most challenging issues of a deployment. Learn tips on how to help your children re-establish a relationship with a parent they know is leaving again. Limit: 20 participants

Pre-DEPLOYMENT Preparing Children for Deployment:*** Simultaneous parent and child groups are followed by larger combined groups where families are assisted with creating family plans that teach both parents and children how to maintain positive connections and healthy coping during deployment.

Parent Group: Limit: 12 participants /May request Parent Group only. Child Group: Three age groups offered: 6-8 year old, 9-12 year old, 13+ year old. Healthy communication involves finding resolution that both sides can be happy with. This class will provide communication skills for building and maintaining healthy relationships. Limit: 20 participants 7 Steps to Surviving Deployment:* Offers tips on how to work together to get through the difficult stages. What feelings are normal? What feelings are not? What do you do if this is happening? Limit: 20 participants Pre-Deployment Couples Communication:* Get prepared as a couple to learn new communication techniques while discussing potential deployment issues; not talking about an issue won’t make it go away.
