Everyone is invited to join us for a fun filled summer! This year’s summer reading program will be held from June 15 through July 17. Registration is mandatory and will begin June 8. The reading age groups are: children ages 3-5, 6-12, teens (ages 13-18) and adults. Weekly story times will also be offered at each library at 10 am. Go to your nearest library weekly for your prize and join us for entertaining programs. The libraries will also offer the following programs at each library every week. All programs begin at 3 pm.

• All classes are taught by certified Red Cross water safety instructors. • Skill levels 1-6, parent/toddler, adult beginner and private swim lessons are all available. • Toddler/Pre-School (3-5 years old) programs concentrate on water adjustment skills, classes are by age level and progression. Requires in water participation of a parent or other adult who is responsible for the child. This course does not teach children to be accomplished swimmers or to survive in water. • Registration is on a first come, first serve basis, children must be registered with CYSS before registering for these programs.

Test your endurance with the Army Hawaii 10-Mile Race around Wheeler. The event is free for Active Duty Soldiers and costs $8 for all other eligible runners. Anyone who wants an event T-shirt can purchase when registering for an additional $10.

ARMY FAMILY COVENANT / BLUE STAR CARD / KMC

The Blue Star Card is a FMWR deployment discount and activity card for Spouses of deployed Soldiers. The card offers everyday discounts at FMWR facilities, free childcare options and access to special events and activities. Blue Star Cards are available and valid through the duration of deployment. If you are eligible* for a Blue Star Card, bring a copy of your Soldier’s deployment orders, along with your military ID to Army Community Service (ACS) on Schofield Barracks, or fill out an application online at www.bluestarcardhawaii.com and then visit ACS to pick up your card. Make sure to submit your email address when signing up for your Blue Star Card so you can be emailed with the latest discounts, events, and activities for card holders. * To be eligible, Spouses of Army combat deployed active duty/reserve/national guard Soldiers/DA Civilian employees must be stationed in Hawaii, deployed for at least six months, and receive hazardous duty pay. The SKIES Program encompasses instructional programs and classes designed to complement and support the experiences of military children. The goal of the SKIESUnlimited Program is to ensure predictability and consistency in the availability, affordability and quality of instructional classes offered. The programs are designed for the students to expand their knowledge, be inspired, explore, and acquire skills. Some classes offered include: Kenpo Karate - 5-18 yr. olds, $35 per month, classes held at Ft Shafter, Aliamanu and Schofield Barracks. (family discount available) Tae Kwon Do - 6-18 yr. olds, $35 per month, classes held at Schofield Barracks. (family discount available) Little Ninja - 3-5 yr. olds, $35 per month, classes held at Schofield Barracks and AMR. (family discount available) Tutoring Services at Schofield Barracks - KindergartenHigh School: $35 per month, three types of tutoring available all summer: 1) Special needs students; 2) Students needing help with general subjects 3) Students who want to excel over the summer. In the early years of the 20th century, Battery Randolph mounted the largest coast-artillery guns in the entire Pacific, and served as a first line of defense against an enemy attack on Oahu.

The museum exhibits tell the stories of the 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks and Wheeler Army Air Field. Interactive touch screens throughout the museum provide historical information, photographs and videos. The Changing Gallery features an exhibition about the Global War on Terrorism. Today, this historic site is home to the U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii, telling its’ story through unique models, rarely seen photomurals, historic videos, and artifacts. The Changing Gallery now features a new exhibit entitled “An Old Soldier’s Legacy: A World-Class Museum.” The exhibit is a tribute to Major General Herbert E. Wolff, USA (Ret), founder of U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii. The temporary exhibit includes historical photos of Battery Randolph and Ft. DeRussy.
