Hello Greyhound (red)

My name is Chaos

This is my story. I am an ex-racer greyhound. I spent my first 3.5 years in a cage or racing. I was running for my life. Win this one, or you’re dead. I did win – but only 4 of 26 races. They wanted to get rid of me – said I wasn’t making enough money.

Then an awesome rescue took me in and found me a forever family. I never want to race, I am a winner now forever. And my first prize is

The racing industry puts thousands of greyhounds in danger daily in the name of entertainment.

Four ugly truths about dog racing

When my family adopted me, I did not have a name by which I would respond. I would not even react to my racing name. But I learnt my new name pretty fast, and I love it when they call me Chaos!

Even though I was a racer, greyhounds are sprinters not endurance walkers. I only need two half-hour walks (ZOOMS!) and the rest of the day I enjoy napping on the couch.

Because of my past career, I am clean, housetrained and I know how to keep quiet. Imagine a dozen racers if one would start barking!!

Before getting a home, I’ve only ever seen greyhounds. Did you know Dachshunds and Pekingese are also dogs?!? I’ve never been allowed to play, or to ever be a puppy, in the kennels, but with lots of treats and toys, I learned the pet business pretty quick!

Adult, healthy exracers are destroyed once they stop earning their food.

Humane, painless medical euthanasia is expensive (considering the numbers of retired dogs), so nailgun to the head is still the legal standard disposal method. A less legal, more lucrative way of dumping the ex-racers is selling them for meat and fur (because it’s hypoallergenic) to Asian countries.
