PRESS RELEASE (Vaughan, ON –August 7, 2012)
Kiniry has MX1 runner-up locked in – Grey is back in the MX2 top-10 club
After a two-week break in the schedule, the CMRC Motocross Nationals resumed for Round 7 of 9 at Riverglade MX Park in Moncton, NB. Sizzling temperatures that saw the thermometer push past the 30º C mark took its toll on riders and machines, but for Team Rockstar Energy OTSFF Yamaha’s Bobby Kiniry and Richard Grey it was business as usual. With the series gradually winding down, the action was fast and furious in both classes; the top10 contenders pulled out all the stops to move up in the rankings or defend the position they are currently holding down. Kiniry continued to impress, taking his potent YZ450F to solid 3-2 moto finishes and proving once again that he is a rider to be reckoned with. It was Kiniry’s third 2nd overall finish of the 1
season, which combined with three 3rd overalls and one 1st is keeping him within the mathematical probabilities of still challenging Matt Goerke for the championship. One thing Kiniry is assured of at this stage, however, is his hold on the runner-up slot in the title hunt. He counts an insurmountable 110 points margin over third in the current rankings, Dusty Klatt. Moto one at Riverglade MX Park saw Kiniry spin out of the gate, which put a damper on his start; after one lap he found himself in a lukewarm ninth place. It took him a while to find his groove, but once he did he systematically picked off rider after rider to bring home a respectable third place at the finish line. He was preceded to the checkered flag by Goerke in first and Klatt in second. In moto two, Kiniry followed Goerke into the first turn, both producing a lightning fast start. Other than the two rivals putting a sizeable gap on the chase group, little would change up front. Kiniry stuck to Goerke like glue for most of the moto, keeping his fellow American honest, but he was unable to mount a successful challenge for the lead.
“My hat goes off to Matt. He’s riding really strong this year and he is more than a worthy opponent. I did what I had to do today to secure my second place in the championship, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going for the win at the final two rounds. Anything can still happen. As the saying goes it ain’t over till it’s over,” Kiniry said. With 9-10 moto results, Richard Grey booked another top-10 finish, claiming 8th overall on the day. Although he got a mid-pack start in the first moto, he was able to work his way into the number nine slot by the time the clock ran out. The second moto he started just outside the top10. He quickly installed himself into 10th place and held onto that spot till the checkered flag. Grey is currently sitting in 10th place in the rankings. He’s within nine points of eighth place Spencer Knowles and still in a position to finish the season with a single digit ranking.

“I was happy with my results today because I achieved my target of finishing in the top-10. My YZ250F provided me with the usual dependable ride and I felt good and comfortable on the bike. I’m still gunning to improve my overall results and I’ll be trying to do that at Sand Del Lee and Walton,” Grey said.
