VISUAL PROPOSAL

Visual Proposal & Project Outcome

1

The outcome of the project is all about Roman Road’s community, their pride and their heritage. The work is focused on the work done by the Suffragette their actions and public speeches, with particular attention to Sylvia Pankhurst. Since before 1918 the right for women to vote and other injustices were considered a dream, an utopia, with my illustrations I tried to recreate a perfect Roman Road in 2118. I imagined the Roman Road area as a dreamy world, where the work done by the Suffragettes was the starting point of a process that will lead (in 2118) to a perfect world, Sylvia Pankhurst’s ‘Golden age”. I imagined Roman Road area as a place where everyone is happy, where diversity is embraced, where everyone is proud, where hostility is forgotten, where no one suffers from starvation, where the community is vibrant and collaborative, where everyone has a home and it is their castle. In the images there are references to the work of the Suffragettes,

and purple, yellow and green are used to reference the banners made by them. On the images there are teddy bears that reference the toy factory set up by Sylvia Pankhurst. The poster is

stitched, and the font used on the images replicates stitching – the Suffragettes used to stitch their words on fabrics.

The display will work through banners hanged along the section of Roman Road where the market is occurring every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The illustration No 12 is grouping all the 11 illustration together and it will be displayed at a bigger scale around the middle of Roman Road, in Gladstone Place, to be precise. This Place is large enough and particularly airy, there is a coffee bar in the corner and I noticed that it is a kind of cross road for the public who is visiting the market.

Said so, I believe that my work celebrates Roman Road’s community, their pride and heritage and I think the perfect place to display it would be the Roman Road Market. The market is a very lively place, where people meet, chat, trade and I see it as the beating heart of

The audience targeted for the project are adults, local inhabitants, visitors and tourists but, the illustrations and their colour range result quite playful and I believe that also children can enjoy without get into the seriousness of the messages.

Promotion In order to promote the installation, I thought to different ways of catching the public attention, social media, posters advertising. As a main social media I chose The Roman Road Trust because it is highly followed by public and it is also an active tool of communication within the community in the area. The Roman Road Trust will advertise the project as a feature of the event of the Roman Road celebration of 100 yers of women votes taking place in August 2018.

Roman Road Celebrates 100 Years Of Women Vote East London is known as a vibrant and creative London area. Many artits from different field meet and connect here in order to fleurish, collaborate and exhibit their work. The Magus and the Fool art cafe’ (Roman Road) is a central point for those artists, and it will advertise the installation on its Facebook page in the same way as the Roman Road Trust.
