To prep you to be fully equipped while traveling in Myanmar, our team has chosen our favorite items we cannot travel without.  WET TISSUE It is a number one must-have item when going on a trip in Myanmar as you will have to take off your shoes when entering religion sites. You can use wet tissue to clean off your feet before putting on your shoes and hop off to the next station. It also allows you to freshen up no matter where you are.

Due to the compact pack size, you can easily store them in your hand luggage to give you instant refreshment whenever you need it. Most importantly, you can also use them wipe down toilet seats before using it.

Nowadays, people also bring along hand-gels for better cleanse.  PORTABLE POWER BANK This is one of the very essential stuff you should not miss. Some may say that his/her phone can last for a day without power bank, but apart from charging your phone, you can use it to charge LED lights or portable fan - just in case you face some blackout in the rural area of the country. If you want to use it to charge your phone, don’t forget to bring along the cable charger.  MOSQUITO REPELLENT Not only for vaccinations, medication, you should also consider a mosquito repellent for your trip to comfort your sleep. It provides a protective space to keep mosquitoes and other insects away from you while you sleep and travel.

 MINI LENS & SELFIE STICK Well, who else doesn’t want to take photos while on a vacation? To take a variety of angled photos, you will need lens but if you can’t afford the expensive real tools. Here is your solution. There are mini lens as fisheye, micro lens, and selfie sticks available at franchised stores like MINISO or MGOU or local phone accessories places. Be noted that some tourist sites may charge you for camera fee. Check before you bring out your camera or your phone.  SUN CREAM WITH SPF, SUNGLASS & HAT Everyone needs these stuff even during the winter season to make sure your skin is not burnt after the trip. Though it may be winter at this time, you can still expect bright shiny sun in Myanmar.  DEODORANT OR ROLL-ON It may get sweaty at times during your trip. It would be better to keep your smell clean and fresh with deodorant and roll-on. It shows that you take care of your personal hygiene.  BACKPACK If you are going for hiking or adventure, backpack is an essential thing you don’t want to forget. You can put some items such as a torch, whistle, extra water and food, or may be a map or compass, first aid kit or tools for your hiking.  MINI FIRST AID KIT This is not the most-needed item but it would be great to have, especially if you are traveling to remote areas. You can put bandages, alcohol wipes, gauze pads, a couple small packs of Benadryl, antibiotic ointment, a small packs of Aspirin or Tylenol and gloves. But my advice is to choose the smallest size so that it wouldn’t take much space in your luggage.

All the above mentioned items and stuff can be easily bought at department stores and supermarkets that are close to your place.

Moreover, there are many stores such as MINISO, MGOU and similar accessories shops opening up in every areas of Yangon, so you just need to explore where they are.

Chy See: A Good Meal Under 2,000 ks!

BY NATTY If you have ever traveled to Bangkok, there’s a chance you have seen or even tasted the popular yellow push cart (usually parked in front of 7-11 convenient stores) selling noodle and wantons with red roasted pork. With over 4,000 push carts, CHY SEE BA MEE KIEW in Thailand has made its name for the distinctive noodle taste and delectable soup.

This famous push cart brand has finally arrived in Yangon with 2 push carts in 2 locations-in front of Bogyoke Aung San Stadium near Citymart and the new Chinatown night market.

The cart brings their popular dishes, for example, noodle with red roasted pork, noodle with red roasted pork and wanton. It comes as a choice of dry or soup. Their noodle has a unique taste that you will not find it anywhere else in the city as it is brought from Thailand.

You can also have the pork with rice, topped with sweet sauce and served with Chinese sausage, a slice of boiled egg and cucumber.

One of the highlights that should not be missed is the “pink noodle soup” or “Yen Ta Fo”, comprised of vermicelli, tofu, fish tofu and mushroom in hot pink sauce which is not too hot to bear. With all the dishes, each customer is allowed to personalize their dish with seasonings - sugar, fish sauce, dried chilli, and vinegar.

Yet, our favorite dish at the shop is the soup, served with every dish. The soup is Chinese-Thai style taste, a perfect combination of boiled pork ribs with mushroom and Chinese gourd. It’s boiled to reach the sweet distinct taste.

The size of each dish seems to be small but the portion is generous. All dishes are priced at 1,800 ks/dish--undeniably a good deal indeed!

The atmosphere is chilling especially at Chinatown branch at night and the staff is helpful.

We will definitely return for the noodle and the soup.

Great for a group of friends, family and kids during the day and even couples or solo travellers, they extend a friendly and good service while catering to all.

The cozily-lit, two-floored bar and cafe offers a variety of cocktails with an Asian inspired, European fusion extensive menu.

Their fancy cocktails include a range of their own cocktail mixes, one of the favourites being the “Blue Night” which is vodka based. For groups, the 1 Litre cocktail to share is a must try, at just 15,000 ks.

Trunk Cafe, a branch of the infamous TGI-Bar in Taunggyi, has a friendly and comfortable atmosphere for friends to relax, sip on a beer while snacking on starters such as the mayonnaise chicken which is another favourite.

Throughout the day, Trunk offers generous portions of comfort food. They serve Chinese cuisine which includes Sichuan and other hot and sour sauces with an option of any seafood/protein, flavoursome fried rice and a variety of noodle and vermicelli dishes.

To satisfy the wait open taste buds, they even serve grilled chicken and pork chops and other European inspired dishes. These mains are enough for one and are affordable and reasonably priced at just 3,500-4,000ks!

Their snacks form an elaborate part of the menu, ranging from burgers to finger foods like crispy chicken, prawns, fish fingers and other pork and beef dishes, starting at 2,500 ks only.
