BOUTIQUE STORE

PROJECT BRIEF

DESIGN CONCEPT

This project is to design the nineth Zara store which will be

The concept for this new Zara flagship store will be ‘layers’. The store will evolve around the idea of creating different layers and levels to create strong depth within the space. The color scheme translates the signature Zara achromatic color scheme, but this particular flagship store will play with different shades of grey to give a new twist.

located at Mandarin Gallery, Singapore. Zara is a Spanish based fashion company and is considered one of the leading fashion brands around the world.

Located in at the heart of Singapore’s shopping district, Mandarin Gallery Orchard is one of the most prestigious shopping mall along Orchard Road. The new Zara store will be the biggest and it will be the flagship store of Zara in SIngapore.

TARGET MARKET This proposed Zara store at Mandarin Gallery Orchard will consist of product lines for both women and men.

The two levels of the store are divided by the different gender (men and women product line) where the first level is dedicated for women (as women wear require more space), and the second level for men. The overall atmosphere of the store will be slightly different in some zones. Overall, the women’s area (first level) will have more white colors than black in order to make them look brighter and more sophisticated. On the other hand the second level, the men’s area will have more black colors than white. This is to bring a more masculine yet modern feeling to the store.

Zara’s clothing for women is divided into three different categories: Zara Women, Zara Basic and Zara TRF. ‘Zara women’ mainly targeted the white collar working woman of age 25 years old and above. ‘Zara Basic’ line are more versatile as compared to ‘Zara Women’ line. They are targeted for female customers of age 17 years old and above. Lastly, ‘Zara TRF’ line focuses more on the urban appeal for the Zara customers of aged 13-25. It is also the cheapest line out of the other three categories.

02 COMMERCIAL DESIGN ‘no.15’ - cafe & art gallery

2 CAFE & ART GALLERY PROJECT BRIEF

DESIGN CONCEPT

No. 15 is a 2-storey cafe and art gallery located at 15 Duxton Road. Duxton Road is located within Tanjong Pagar sub-district of Chinatown. Hence, the art and the food served in No. 15 reflect the heritage value of Tanjong Pagar. The artworks displayed are by local artists and the food served are of Chinese Peranakan origin.

The concept developed for this cafe gallery is inspired from a fishing village. Tanjong Pagar used to be a fishing village, hence, different elements of fishing village environment will be taken and incoporated into a contemporary design in order to reflect Tanjong Pagar’s origin. Peranakan aspects of design will also be taken into account. The use of old materials in a modern way will define this shophouse.

USER PROFILE The client is a couple in their late 30’s from Singapore with Chinese Peranakan ancestry and they are Mr Isaac Lim and Mrs Elisa Lim. They had previously worked in Australia for a few years for an art gallery that promotes indigenous art and now, they decided to settle down in Singapore. The couple love to collect artifacts from around the world but they want to share and promote their culture through the café gallery.

15 DUXTON ROAD, TANJONG PAGAR D

Also, the design will be a combination of old and new style where contemporary design is proposed while the heritage elements of the shophouse preserved. The space will be functional with integrated seatings within the art gallery. Versatility is an important component as sold artworks have to be replaced by the new ones. The space also needs to be able to cater different types of events held in the café gallery.

5 FINE DINING RESTAURANT

“AMBROSIA

greek & padang fusion cusine Ambrosia is the proposed fine dining fusion restaurant serving Greek and West Sumatra Padang Cuisines. Padang is the captial city of West Sumatra, an island in Indonesia. Ambrosia will be located on the first level of Chjimes, a historical building in Victoria Street, Singapore. Chijmes is also a heritage building located around a lot of offices, hotels, and malls, the location itself is a huge potential for business opportunities. Ambrosia will take up the first floor of the 2-storey site. The target market is the business people between ages 25 to 50. They earn high salaries, and are emptynesters who are willing to spend more for high-quality cusines. Another targeted clientele are the foreign business people who are on their business trips due to the close proximity of expensive business hotels nearby. The concept of the restaurant will be sea-inspired due to the location of the two countries. Both countries are archipelago, which comprises of a cluster of islands, hence, the concept is inspired from the sea whch is meant to bring the two very different countries together. Elements of water will be used throughout the space to create a landscape which resembles that of an island. The result will be a beautiful fluid space which allows easy movement and is fully functional. The traditional elements of the two countries will also be incorporated further in the design.

The main dining is designed in a way that best represents the Greek and Padang culture. Greece's colour scheme of blue and white is mainly used throughout the space and is contrasted by the Indonesian wood.. Partitions are also used throughout the space to provide that minimum privacy that customers need. The result is a modern interpretation of what a fusion of Greek and Padang countries would be.

06 POG & PLAY WORKSHOP zero-carbon workplace float

Green Mask seeks to reinvigorate the shipping industry by incorporating lifestyle modular offices, set within a verdant green park that will be the new face of Venice. Venice, a city once known as the “Queen of the Adriatic, is now drastically losing its population, with the numbers dropping as low as 60,000, the lowest it has ever been. High living costs, lack of job opportunities, and limited transportation options have all equally contributed to many Venetians moving out of the lagoon to the mainland, Mestre. As the numbers suggest, by 2030, Venice is highly likely to become a ghost town. The project will be located on the Venice lagoon along the border of Tranchetto, an artificial island at the westernmost tip of Venice. Tronchetto was built in 1956 as a terminal that connects Piazzale Roma, the main bus station in Venice, and is the first island to be seen upon arriving from Mestre. However, it is now solely used as a vast and unappealing car park that stretches along the whole island, giving Venice a poor first impression. The location is perfectly strategic as it is very easy to access via various transportation means from buses to ferries, cars, ships, boats and trains. The location also provides a serene and unobstructed view of the sea for the users to experience beautiful sunsets. On the other side of the coast is Marghera, a port housing large modern ships, which

will be the main target market for this project. The water level of the chosen location is also lower as compared to the rest of the island, so the workspace will not be affected during days of higher water levels. The aim of the project is to create a workspace float which will not only bring up the population numbers, but will also mask the car park with a ravishing facade filled with offices. Shipping industry has always played a substantial role in the economy of Venice. By providing lifestyle modular offices to cater the shipping organizations whether be it local or global, the project hopes to open up job opportunities and ultimately create a new business center for the shipping industry. The name of the project is Green Mask which will be a floating island of zero-carbon modular office spaces with integrated greenery and sustainable technologies to enhance working quality. To reform the typical working lifestyle, Green Mask will incorporate a verdant green park with retail, entertainment and leisure spaces as social networking platforms, offering the users with not only a place to work, but also a place where they can truly enjoy being in.

PROJECT VISION The vision of the project is to create a self-sufficient floating city that will create a new and attractive face for Venice. The structure of the city will be an organic island that is offsetted from Tranchetto as though it is a replica. This floating island, so called Green Mask, will consist of hub, spines and pogs that will provide offices for the shipping industry as well as social (retail) spaces and leisure (park) spaces for the users to enjoy a unique working experience.

1. ARTIFICIAL ISLAND

4. ADDITION OF HARBOUR

2. CENTRAL HUB - RETAIL

5. SECONDARY SPINE

3. SECONDARY HUB - PARK

6. POGS - OFFICES

The hub is the floating island, a fusion of a verdant green park and a long stretch of a retail building to provide social and leisure spaces with integrated greenery for the users. Each pog is made up of two units of office building in which each unit can house up to four stories. The office buildings will be floating on the sea to provide great, relaxing views for the users in the office.

There will be two types of spine: the main spine which will connect Tronchetto to the new island, and the secondary spine which will then connect the island to the individual floating office pavilions.

The hub comprises of a seamlessly fused park and a retail building, which offers basic amenities such as restaurants, bars, convenience stores, public restrooms and fuel stations. Green roof is installed in an organic slope structure to provide shading and to allow rain water to flow down the roof smoothly. Users can go up the roof to enjoy strolling on a higher ground.

THE SPINE AND HUB

THE POG

There are two spines: main spine and secondary spine. The main spine is the pathway that connects Tronchetto to the floating island or the hub. The secondary spines are smaller pathways that link from the island to the individual office pogs.

There are eleven floating pogs in which each pog can contain up to eight modular office units linked together with a central core. The four-storey central core includes stairs and one lift that gives access to the offices. The modular office units will be located on each side of the core. Each side can contain up to a total of four modular office units stacked vertically. Hence, each pog will be able to house around 300 users in total. All office units are pre-fabricated and are used by a crane to be shifted, or stacked from one place to another. An additional warehouse will be provided to house the individual units.

The hub comprises of a seamlessly fused park and a retail building. The retail building offers basic amenities such as restaurants, bars, convenience stores, public restrooms and fuel stations. Green roof is installed in an organic slope structure to provide shading and to allow rain water to flow down the roof smoothly. The roof is designed in a way whereby the users can go up the roof to enjoy strolling and enjoying the view on a higher ground.

SPINEUS PENDANT LIGHT

“inspired from spines of a cactus The concept behind the lighting fixture is a cactus. The inspiration is from the zig zag shape of the cactus that creates a very abstract and unique look. So, the decision was to interpret the round shape into a geometric fixture using the characteristics of the cactus. The spines of the cactus will be reinterpreted to create a detailed zig-zag cut out which acts as the focal point of the lighting fixture. The light is meant to be placed in minimalist houses especially in common rooms such as living room and dining room because it creates a warm and inviting ambience for the guests. This light is a flat-pack light fixture that can be self-assembled after purchasing.
