Schapelle Corby breaks down as she prepares to depart Bali

Schapelle Corby has cried and asked when she might be able to return to Indonesia when questioned by Bali correctional officers about her coming deportation from the country, officials say.

More than three years after being released from Kerobokan prison on parole in February 2014, the Australian met the head of Bali's Correctional Division in Denpasar on Thursday as she prepares to say goodbye to Indonesia in May.

Corby - who will be deported to Australia after her parole expires on May 27 - at first seemed "suspicious and stressed" and did not want to talk about her release, Mr Pasaribu said.

While the 39-year-old appeared healthy, Mr Pasaribu said she mentioned she was sometimes afraid to go jogging and swimming in Bali because she feared "She shed some tears. It was a question best left to the Indonesian authorities in Australia, he told her. Made Mangku declared that all the necessary recommendations for the airport's construction are now in hand, both on a regency and provincial level. Speaking on April 12, Mangku said: "Today, a team from the Ministry of Transportation visited the location for the new airport to analyze the location permit. Hopefully, the location permit will soon be issued and we can do a groundbreaking on August 28, 2017." Mangku claims the new airport will be built as a joint investment by investors from three countries. A Canadian investor will construct the runway; an investor from Belarus will develop the

Aero-city; and an investor from South Korean will be in charge of the overall construction of the Airport. Mangku said Rp. 50 trillion has been secured for the airport project, but more money is still needed, including funds to create an access road connecting the aerodrome to Singaraja and Denpasar. Those working on the project claim 10-15 years will be needed to complete the airport. The proposed airport is planned to have twin runways measuring 3,600 meters long and 60 meters wide. The only question is: Who is going to coose the new airport for arrival if you have to travel 3 or more hours before reaching the popular tourist areas in the south of Bali? (www.balidiscovery.com)

What Drives Plans to Curtail Visa Free Policy? Government Curtailing Visa-Free Facility for Tourists Visiting Indonesia The Jakarta Post reports that the government is actively considering curtailing the list of 169 nations eligible for free-visa-onarrival when visiting Indonesia. Driving the desire is the possibly convoluted view that the government may be losing US$75.4 million in $35 visa fees from the 2.1 million tourists from countries formally obliged to purchase a visa at the airport. Convoluted? Assuming, based on the data available, that the

average tourism visitor to Indonesia spends US$1,140 - then the revival of a visa free for 2.1 million tourist that might be compelled to pay , only needs to deter tourist arrivals by 3% to result in a zero-sum-game. In other words, a mere 3% decline in tourist arrivals caused by a re-introduction of visa fees (in this case, only 63,000 tourist) would more than nullify in terms of lost foreign exchange any revenues earned from visa fee.

Leading the draconian assault is Laws and Human Rights Minister Yasona Laoly who recently told the national legislature: "There are some countries that have not contributed significantly to Indonesia's income. We granted them the free-visa policy but their citizens almost never vacation here." It remains unclear what countries may be removed from the visa-free policy. The controversial policy has

developed into a polemic between elements in the tourism industry who support a liberalized visa regime with members of the political establishment are blaming surging tourism numbers on crime and increases in the number of illegal workers. (www.balidiscovery.com)

Tree meant to temporarily mark Bali broken road becomes local fixture A banana tree looks like it's growing out of the road in Jembrana, West Bali. The tree however, didn't just happen to sprout out of the asphalt-it turns out the tree was planted there as a caution marker for a large pothole. Using trees, plants, and other Page 24

miscellaneous objects instead of orange cones and caution tape is a common, everyday practice in Indonesia. The makeshift markers usually are temporary and just put in place until the road is repaired. One particular tree in Jembrana, however, has apparently

been blocking a pothole for awhile, since local news reports of a tree marking damage in the same spot go back to at least January 2017-though those reports identify the plant as a cassava tree.

Aussie woman bitten after stepping on venomous snake at Ubud hotel But "luckily, the resort paid the bills," Australia Seven News reporter Rebecca Marsh said in a broadcast. Cunningham stayed overnight at the hospital and was given a mixture of antivenoms (doctors weren't sure which snake had bitten the Aussie) along with doses of antibiotics, steroids, and anti-inflammatories. Cunnigham says she's been in recovery the past month but she won't An Australian woman was apparently bitten let her experience keep her from visiting by a venomous snake after she stepped on Bali again. it while at her Ubud hotel last month. Renee Cunningham, says she didn't immediately realize she had been bitten, but claims she "felt something slimy" and soon after felt shooting pain in her leg, which was "blistering and bubbling."

"I've had severe joint pains to the point I haven't been able to walk properly and my blood pressure kept going up and down, but I'm all right now," she said. "It was a freak accident. It could have happened any where but the people were amazing." Given Bali's lush, tropical landscape, snakes are not uncommon on the island, especially in Ubud. Watch your step and if you encounter one, it's best if you leave it be, says a Bali reptile expert. (Coconuts.co) R16

The 34-year-old had been on vacation in Bali with her sister and was on the way to the hotel's pool when she had her fateful encounter, according to Australian news reports. "I looked down and saw it was a snake," Cunningham said. The mother of three was rushed to a clinic close to her hotel by staff, but because they didn't have the antivenom she needed, she was sent to an Ubud hospital. "By the time I got to the hospital my blood pressure was skyrocketing and I was vomiting and going unconscious," she said. "I was unwell for that whole night, and the antivenom (also) made me unwell," she added. Visiting the ER was definitely intimidating, but a godsend for Cunningham. "The emergency ward was confronting and scary. There was no sheets and blood on the walls but the staff were amazing. They saved my life." Cunningham did have travel insurance, but as she had "chosen the cheapest, most basic option, it didn't cover the $1,000 worth of hospital expenses."

Woman pulled off Bali flight claiming to have bomb says she was just 'joking' A woman wasn't allowed to board a Bali flight on April 8 after she told airport security officers that she was carrying a bomb.

No matter how many people get in trouble for making bomb jokes on planes, there's always still that one person that tries to go for the punchline that will just never land.

Page 34

When asked about the contents of her bag during security screening at Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport, Kalimantan native Titis AB, 28, stated that she had a bomb.

To no surprise at all to everyone but apparently Titis AB herself, the woman was pulled into custody for questioning and not allowed to get on the flight to Malang, East Java.

When questioned, the woman said she had only been joking.

"The perpetrator claimed to have a bomb. Security personnel brought her to the security officer for questioning," Tribun Bali quoted Bali Police spokesman Hengky Widjaja as saying.

Just last month, a Saudi passenger was also pulled from a Lion Air flight for the same, poorly-thought-out joke.

The woman was released after agreeing in a statement not to repeat her actions.

The coordinator of PTOB, Wayan Suata, said his members are demanding the police thoroughly investigate and prosecute those who attacked one of their members. He pledged that protests would continue until justice was served. Police eventually agreed to receive a delegation of 5 representatives of the PTOB in order to hear their complaints. In a subsequent report in DenPost, Police in Kuta confirmed that four men have been taken into custody in connection with the attack against the online transportation provider Ida Kade Anom (30).

How much do you want for a year?” “Don’t worry about money,” said the turkey, “let me just ask you something, does the season go past thanksgiving?!” A man wasn’t feeling well so he went to the doctor. After examining him the doctor took his wife aside, and said, “your husband has a very sensitive heart. I am afraid he’s not going to make it, unless you treat him like a king, which means you are at his every beck and call, 24 hours a day and that he doesn’t have to do anything himself. On the way home the husband asked with a note of concern “what did he say?” “Well”, the lady responded, “he said it looks like you probably won’t make it.”

Masters Of Transport & Logistics Harold is 95 and lives in a Senior Citizen Home. Every night after dinner, Harold goes to a secluded garden behind the center to sit and ponder his accomplishments and long life. One evening, Mildred, age 87, wanders into the garden. They begin to chat and before they know it, several hours have passed. After a short lull in their conversation, Harold turns to Mildred and asks, 'Do you know what I miss most of all?' She asks, 'What?' Crossword solution from page 22 'Sex!!' he replies Mildred exclaims, 'Why you old fart. You couldn't get it up if I held a gun to your head!' 'I know,' Harold says, 'but it would be nice if a woman could just hold it for a while.' Well, I can oblige,' says Mildred, who unzips his trousers, removes his manhood and proceeds to hold it. Afterward, they agreed to meet secretly each night in the garden where they would sit and talk and Mildred would hold Harold's manhood. Then one night Harold didn't show up at their usual meeting place. Alarmed, Mildred decided to find Harold and make sure he was O.K. She walked around the Senior Citizen Home where she found him sitting by the pool with Ethel, another female resident, who was holding Harold's manhood! Furious, Mildred yelled, 'You two-timing son of a bitch! What does Ethel have that I don't have?' Old Harold smiled happily and replied, 'Parkinson's. Page 40

Bali tourism destination or mining site? Nusa Penida's development future at a crossroads Nusa Penida, a small island southeast of Bali, has been growing in popularity as a tourism destination and is quickly becoming one of the province's most Instagrammed spots. With a breathtaking rugged coast, sweet snorkeling spots, stunning features like the natural infinity pool Angel's Billabong, and very limited infrastructure, Penida is favorited for its relatively untouched nature. But while the island is currently a strategic national tourism area (KSPN) that the government hopes to develop into a major draw for tourists, plans are on the table to exploit the island for its limestone mining potential. The regent presiding over Bali's Klungkung area, which is Nusa Penida is administratively a part of, says he hopes no mining plans would affect the island's tourism industry.

"The proposed mining areas in Nusa Penida must certainly not interfere with KSPN," Klungkung regent, I Nyoman Suwirta, told Tribun Bali on Wednesday.

Another Penida local, Wayan Warta made similar comments, expressing his concern on the A study is underway to deternegative impact mining would mine whether mining on Nusa have on Penida's natural feaPenida would cause environtures-the island is known for mental harm to the island's eco- those striking limestone cliffs, system, says head of the Bali after all. New Zealand woman jailed in Bali drugs case Bali airport authorities became suspicious of Myra Williams as she was acting strangely when she arrived on the island in August, shouting and refusing to queue up to have her travel documents checked. A New Zealand woman was jailed Thursday for two and a half years on the Indonesian resort island of Bail after being caught with a tiny amount of crystal methamphetamine.

A court in the Balinese capital Denpasar Thursday convicted her of using drugs and sentenced her to two and half years in jail. Chief judge Ni Made Purnami said she had "been proven legally and convincingly guilty of abusing drugs".
