From Your Madam President

From Your Worthy President

Wow, it is August!

Let’s enjoy some fun in the sun this month

August already? Hard to believe. Where has the time gone? We have our membership drive starting out strong. Thanks to Yvonne and her committee. Our Thursday meetings in August are the 9th, which is initiation, then on the 23rd. Please Sisters, if you are not doing anything, come out and see what we do at our meetings instead of asking what happens at them. Come find out first hand. They are short and fun. Remember, laughter is the best kind of medicine! — Loni Andrews, Madam President

Bring your wheels to our Car Show!! Daffodil Aerie’s Annual Car Show is is set for Saturday, August 4. Applications are now available to enter your car, truck, motorcycle or whatever for only $20 each. Last year we had about 140 vehicles for a very successful event that included music, food, a beer garden in our parking lot and drink specials. There will be many trophies and awards and lots of fun for everyone. Our co-sponsors will be Mike Sader’s American Automotive, Kingsmen Car Club and The Demonoes Car Club. Collectable Event Shirts will be available for sale and have always been a “must” for our members. Registration is at 9 a.m. BBQ is available for $7. The trophy presentation at at 3:30 p.m. Proceeds for the car show goes to the Scholarship Fund. Mark your calendars for Saturday August 4 for the Eagles Car Show. — The Rock & Rod Committee, (253) 845-5021

August is upon us, and we have two “fun-in-thesun” (fingers crossed!) events planned. The first is the Rock-n-Rod Car show on Saturday, August 4. Entries have increased every year, so we hope to have a good show. Proceeds benefit local scholarships. The Barbecue Cook Off is scheduled for Sunday, August 26. Bob and Bubba are throwing themselves whole-heartedly into this project and we expect great things this year. Proceeds benefit Fisher House at Madagan Army Hospital (a “Ronald McDonald House” for wounded soldiers). W hope to see everyone down here supporting all their hard work. Please remember that both of these events are open to the public, so bring your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers down for a good time, showing them what the Fraternal Order of Eagles is all about. — Dave Andrews, Worthy President

Win big bucks

Bring on the ribs, Sunday, August 26 The Aerie’s Annual BBQ Rib competition is schedule for Sunday, August 26. Get your team ready and entered. Forms are now available. Entry fees are the same as last year, $50, with all entry fees being paid out in prize money. On the last Sunday in August we will have food, the beer garden in our back parking lot, music, raffles and drink specials. Come and enjoy the last weekend of our summer with friends and “family” at Daffodil Aerie 2308. We hope to see you all. Thanks from your BBQ committe.

76 show up for a hot July game

Golfers head to Lake Cushman August 12!

It was hot outside and the players were cool as cucumbers as they played and enjoyed a rousing game of Texas Hold’em on Sunday July 8. We had 76 players which, by the way, is our lowest attendance ever. We do have to enjoy the good weather when it’s here and you know what I’m talking about. Thanks again to all of you for helping us with all the chores. A special thanks to Donnie for setting up the tables which helped Bob from having to be on his feet. If you aren’t aware, Bob has a blood clot in his leg and we are dealing with that right now. Sean Monday and Richard Adams, you are awesome! Cheryl, thanks for helping with the bounties and thanks also to all the regular crew. You are all so valued. Winners are: First, Dennis Hay; second, Pat Evinger; third, Rolf Miethe; fourth, Mel Mellick; fifth, Ryan Stone; sixth, Richard Adams; seventh, Janet Tisdel; eighth, Scott Hutchinson; and ninth, Paul Thomas, Sr. Congrats to all of you! If you have any yarn that is taking up space, there is a Texas Hold’em volunteer who could use any weight or color. She makes blankets to donate to charity and would put the donations to good use. Just drop the yarn off at the Aerie for Susan Adams. Thanks. Our next game is on Sunday, August 12. We hope to see you then. Thank you. — Bob Reynolds, (253) 535-6706

The Joe Hatcher Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Lake Cushman Golf Course on Sunday, August 12 with a 10 am tee time. Tournament CoChairmen, Paul Mielbrecht and John Ham, will send around sign-up sheets for potluck dishes and collect entry fees. This tournament will be a four man scramble with each team having A, B, C & D players according to handicaps. There will also be practice rounds on Friday and Saturday, August 10 and 11 for those wanting to make it a three-day weekend outing. At this time the entry fee has not be set. “The inevitable result of any golf lesson is the instant elimination of the one critical unconscious motion that allowed you to compensate for all your errors.” — Milo

Visit us at the Farmer’s Market on Saturdays!!! The Puyallup Eagles has a booth at the Puyallup Farmer’s Market each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your friends to sign up to join the Eagles and buy a club cookbook with all proceeds to the Diabetes Research Center. Cool And Comfortable! Relax And Have A Cool One!

During the month of July, our RV group travelled to the beautiful state of Oregon. We left on July 19 and stayed at the Portland RV Park in Fairview, Oregon. There is lots to see and do all around the Portland area, including the Portland Spirit Cruise ship, the Mt. Hood, Railroad, the Confections of the Brigittine Monks, and the Aviation and Space Museum, to name just a few. We then travelled down to Loon Lake Resort in Reedsport where we stayed from July 22-25. Here we did some fishing and hiking in the area. Then we headed back to the Willamette Wine Country RV Park in Dayton. We were close to several wineries, golfing, and casinos. It was enough to keep our members more than happy. In August we will travel to North Whidbey Island RV Park, just outside of Oak Harbor. We truly enjoy this park not only for the nice accommodations and clubhouse, but also for the area’s best transit system. We can ride their local buses all over Whidbey Island to visit a lot of the local towns and sights and it’s free. you can’t beat it for a day outing. Don’t forget that new members are always welcome to join us anytime. Our monthly meetings are on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Please feel free to come spend time with us. — Sincerely, Sheron Mozzone, Secretary Daffodil Roamers RV Club
