Olympia, Washington Last month, 30 volunteers gathered to help give Olympia Aerie #21 a fresh coat of paint. Volunteers painted the lower sections of the three-story building while All-In-One Painting safely handled the upper floors. The Aerie includes a ballroom, dance studio and thrift store and members hope the new exterior will entice locals to come in and find out more about what the Eagles do to benefit the citizens of Olympia.

Kalkaska, Michigan The Eagles of Kalkaska #4496 presented checks totaling $4,100 to Michigan National Guard's 1071st Family Readiness Group, which provides assistance to the men and women of the company and their families. The funds were raised during the Eagles' fifth annual Car, Truck & Bike Show heldJuly 5. The donations will be used to help members and their families who are in need with utilities and similar bills.

Burlington, Washington Skagit Valley Eagles #3242 recently awarded $500 scholarships to area students Eugene Harnkess, DeAndra Mills, Krista Blumenhagen and Lindsey Ostrom.

Murray, Utah When Murray Aerie #1760 was in need of assistance with their building fund, Worthy President Patty Merlino answered the call in a unique way. Merlino spent her 50th birthday volunteering to take pies to the face for donations to the Aerie's building fund. By the end of the night, seven pies were thrown and several dollars raised to help benefit Murray #1760.

Castlewood, Virginia The Eagles of Clinch River #3305 recently completed their first annual "Back To School Supply Drive." The idea came from Worthy President Tony Meade, who recognized the need for new supplies for children in the rural coalmining area of Castlewood. Due to the closings and cutbacks at area mines, families are struggling and in the spirit of "People Helping People," the Eagles put together a two-month effort to raise funds for supplies. Meade and Worthy Vice President Sammy Wood gathered donations from local businesses and Aerie members to help the cause. On August 1, a concert was held in the local park with a special performance by Southern Breeze, who donated their time. Guests were asked to bring school supplies or make a donation and the Clinch River Aerie sold concessions. More than 300 people attended the concert and in the end, backpacks and a full slate of school supplies were provided to more than 160 area children. Clinch River is currently planning their 2014 White Christmas drive to provide holiday meals and gifts to area families in need.


Blanchester, Ohio On July 4, the Eagles of Blanchester #2222 held their annual Don Cadwallader Car Show Classic benefit for autism, welcoming 110 cars and motorcycles in conjunction with the Blanchester Area Chamber of Commerce's annual 4th of July event. This was the first show held in honor of Don Cadwallader, a 50-year Eagle who was very active with the F.O.E. and in area car clubs with his '56 Chevy before his passing last year. The show raised $3,552 to benefit the Blanchester School District for help in their sensory rooms to benefit children with autism and other disabilities. The Eagles would like to thank promoter John Porterfield; event DJ Charlie Hargraves; Robyn Hedberg for obtaining door prizes and donations; Bob Hofmann, Roann Wilder and John Norton for cooking; Trustees Chuck Johnson and Todd Williams and Secretary Roy Hedberg for support and planning; Marie and Kat for selling refreshments; the Blanchester Police and Street Departments for being cooperative in carrying out the event; Blanchester Auto Parts, Save-A-Lot and the Post Office for the use of their parking lots; Don Jones for his handyman work; and Tom Wolf Jr., and Ron Jones for setting up and taking down the tents for the event. Smart has a '32 Ford which he has owned and cared for since 1964.

Sarasota, Florida Saramana Ladies' Auxiliary #4424 presented a check for $1,200 to All Children's Speciality Care Center, the project of Past Madam President Junita St. Esprit.

Puyallup, Washington The Eagles of Daffodil #2308 recently contributed $2,500 to the Pierce County Sheriffs Department to help the department in the purchase of a new K9. The department stopped by the Aerie following the purchase to do a demonstration for Eagles members. Daffodil also recently took part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, issuing a challenge to its membership in honor of two long-time members and to raise funds and awareness for ALS. Past Worthy President Keith Stubblefield passed away on Oct. 16, 2013, from ALS and member Jon Loppe is currently battling the disease. Keith's widow, Joan Stubblefield, and Jon's wife, Judy Loppe, were the bucket dumpers for the event. In just over an hour, the Eagles raised $1,650 to donate to the ALS Evergreen Chapter in Kent, Washington.


Brisbane, California On Saturday, Aug. 16, the Eagles of Brisbane #3255 held a luncheon to benefit the Art Ehrmann Cancer Fund, serving cheeseburgers, potato salad and beans to raise more than $1,850!

Mesa, Arizona Auxiliary members from East Mesa #4508 donated school and craft supplies to Cardons Children's Hospital in Mesa, Ariz., Thanks to the generous sisters of the Eagles and a local craft store, the hospital's school received nearly everything on its wish list, including notebooks, construction paper, markers, glue sticks, games, books and more. "It was wonderful knowing that we were able to help the children stay on pace with their school work during extended stays at the hospital," stated Madam President Fran Hattan. "Supporting the hospital and the children will be our yearlong special project." Overgaard, Arizona Members of Top of the Rim #4437 presented a check for $1,500 to the Family Advocacy Center for use helping young victims of sexual abuse. The check was presented to FAC Executive Director Aaron Ulibarri.

Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania Nearly 100 golfers helped raised more than $2,500 for Fitzmaurice Community Services Foundation Inc., in a benefit tournament raised by Stroudsburg Eagles #1106 at Glen Brook Golf Club. Fitzmaurice Community Services Inc., is a nonprofit organization assisting adults with behavioral health and developmental disabilities and their families.

Sutherlin, Virginia Piedmont Eagles #4420's Eagle Riders group held its 5th Annual Dean Ferris Memorial Poker Run, raising $15,773.82 for the Danville Cancer Association. With the help of friends, family and local business partners, the Eagle Riders made the 2014 poker run their largest to date. They're already working on finding sponsors, partners and donations for the 2015 run and welcome any volunteers to get in touch with them at 434-251-0994 to lend a helping hand.


Lebanon, Ohio In keeping with the giving character of Miami Valley Fraternal Order of Eagles #1395, the Ladies' Auxiliary was honored to be able to assist the Abuse, Rape and Crisis Shelter (ARCS) with a much needed purchase of security cameras for their facility. On Aug. 14, Janet Hoffman, Executive Director of ARCS, accepted a check in the amount of $1,000 for general needs in addition to the approximately $900 check previously presented to ARCS for cameras. The shelter provides assistance for men, women and children seeking refuge from abusive situations and is a blessing to those in need in our community.

Salem, Ohio Salem Fraternal Order of Eagles #316 recently presented three boxes of school supplies to Buckeye Elementary School for distribution to students in need. Auxiliary members collected the items in an effort to help others and increase the Eagles' charitable works.

New Port Richey, Florida Paula O'Neil, Clerk of Pasco County Florida, presented a certificate of appreciation to Suncoast #3153's Past President Natalie Barile and member Marianne Dodd, in honor of the Eagles' support of the Clerks for A Cure cancer fundraiser. Additionally, Past President Betty Bleau received a Distinguished Service Award from Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco in honor of her 30 years of suppor t for the Florida Sheriff' s Youth Ranch.
