Membership special

Let’s get some new members signed up During the month of December the Aerie is waving the initiation fee and the reenrollment fee for all applications received prior to December 31, 2011. Application must be in the Secretary’s office by that date. We need 240 new members to meet the quota set by the Grand Aerie. We are currently at about 40 per cent of that quota. If every member can try to sign up a new member we can reach that quota and even surpass it. As of now we down 113 members since January 1, 2011. This means that we have lost about $3,600 in income for the Aerie. Only 43 members have either signed up a new member or reenrolled a dropped member since May of this year. We need the help of all members to maintain our membership total.

Happy Holidays

❄ ❄

To All Our Brothers & Sisters Of Daffodil Aerie And ❄ ❄ Auxiliary 2308!

From Your Worthy President

Ho! Ho! Ho! The holidays are here Hello Brothers and Sisters, It’s that time of the year again. It sure feels as though this year went fast. I must have been having fun, or so busy I didn’t notice. I think it was a pretty good year, though. We had two young members, Kyle and Tim Guinn, become Aerie Officers. I hope that they stay with it and become Past Presidents. We need our young Brothers to become involved in the administration of the Aerie. We need fresh ideas.

VETERANS’ DINNER For those of you who didn’t make it to the Annual Veterans’ Dinner, you missed a good dinner. Loni Andrews and Gerri Cowling did a fantastic job of putting together the dinner and decorating the dining room. If you don’t know already, we have a new cook, Theresa. She fixed a chicken fried steak dinner that would melt in your mouth. Maybe now we can get the dining room operational again. I can remember when we had to stand in line to get into the dining room on a Friday and Saturday night. Anyway I got side tracked. Our speaker for the Veterans’ Dinner is one of our new Brothers, Sgt. Joshua Harp. Joshua is an infantry fire team leader. Joshua pulled a year in Iraq and is presently stationed at Joint Base Lewis/McChord and is applying for helicopter school. Good luck to Joshua. Keep your head down!

DECEMBER IS A BUSY MONTH

Daffodil’s new cook seeking suggestions If you have not heard, we have a new cook and she is interested in creating dishes you would enjoy. Theresa is giving you the opportunity to put forth suggestions that you would like to see served here during the Friday and Saturday evening meals. You can put your suggestion on three-inch by five-inch piece paper and drop them in the Trustees’ suggestion box in the hallway. Thank you for your input, — Your Board of Trustee

Daffodil Duffers close out another great year As we close the book on another fun year of golf, take a look at the many new tournament winners and two new Club Champions. Sadly, we did lose a couple of our fellow Duffers this past year — Dave Smith and Pat Swanson, We will miss them.

2012 HERE WE COME! The Winter Tournament on February 17, 18 and 19 will be at the 7 Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course in Sequim. Tournament Chairman Gene Kary has also set up a practice round at the Wild Horse Golf Course in Kingston on Thursday at 10 a.m. At Dungeness, the games will be Friday A & B Division Play with a tee time of 10 a.m. Saturday is A & B Division Play at 9 a.m. with a shot gun start. On Sunday is A, B, C & D Team Play with a 9 a.m. shot gun start. The last day to sign up for this tournament is February 5, 2012!! “When you look up and cause an awful shot, you will always look down again at exactly the moment when you ought to start watching the ball if you ever want to see it again.” — Milo

Don’t forget to check your December calendar. We have “Deck the Halls” coming up. Please come and help with decorating the Aerie for Christmas We usually have a pot luck dinner after we are finished. We have the Christmas Dinner, which is always a hit. Please make use of the Aerie. The club section of the Aerie is there for our pleasure and if we don’t use it, we can’t keep the bar and dining room open, Published monthly by the Puyallup, Washington and if they aren’t open, we don’t have an Aerie. Daffodil Aerie #2308 Well, that is all I can think of. I hope that all of Fraternal Order of Eagles my Brothers and Sisters had a wonderful Thanksgivin the interest of Eagledom, for and about ing and I hope to see you down at the club during the Eagles in the Daffodil Aerie. the Christmas holidays. Brothers & Sisters

From Your Madam President

One busy month follows another!! Brrrr! It is getting cold outside!! Bundle up! Wow, November was a busy month starting with the Veterans’ Parade in Auburn. The Aerie had one member attend, along with five Auxiliary Sisters. We had a good time and it was a beautiful day for this special parade. Special thanks to Jay Crouchet for the new banner that he donated. The banner was used at the Auburn parade to represent Daffodil Aerie and Auxiliary Thanks, Jay. You are the best!

WHAT A GREAT BAZAAR! Next was the bazaar, which was a great success. Thanks to our Chairman Phyllis Dickson and Raffle Chairman Doris Bach. You did a great job ladies. Thank you to everyone who helped out and all who participated with the set-up and donations of baked goods and crafts for selling at the Auxiliary table. We hope you all had a good time shopping from the many vendors that brought their goods to sell during this annual event.

• Check out the “Tree of Giving.” Chairman are Cathi Mahan and Terry Gregory. Help us to bring some joy for the holidays to families in need. Daffodil Auxiliary has initiated 16 new members this past month. Thank you Sisters for signing up our new members. Our Membership Chairman is Loni Andrews and our Interview Committee Chairman is Pat Jorgenson. Thanks much for all your hard work. Happy Holidays. Be safe and be happy! — Love and Luck, Kathy Crouchet, Madam President

DISTRICT #7 MEETING The Auxiliary had 10 Sisters who went to the District #7 Meeting at the Span-A-Park Eagles in November. Any member can attend a District Meeting. The next District #7 Meeting will be held on Sunday, January 8 at the Mt. Rainier Eagles in Eatonville. As you can see by the calendar, December is also filled with many events. Most of the events that happen around Daffodil Aerie #2308 are annual events that take place because of tradition and expectations. The Auxiliary and Aerie work together. Please help us all keep this going. Get involved, volunteer and help each other out. All of us rely on each other for assistance to get our functions underway and completed successfully. Whether they are Aerie or Auxiliary functions, we are “People Helping People.” Together we succeed!

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER • Thursday, December 8 — Auxiliary’s 73rd Anniversary pot luck at 6 p.m. with the Auxiliary meeting to follow. • Thursday, December 15 — Auxiliary State Madam President’s visit at 6 p.m. with dinner and meeting to follow. November’s game was hectic, but fun What a hectic day we had on Sunday, November 13. We did accomplish everything we set out to do, but not without the help of you players. You are the greatest! Our Veterans were honored as well as our deceased players. Thanks to Deena Thomas for helping with the sign-ups. She did a really super job. We had 118 players with a $2,950 payout. The winners are: First, Sandra DeFazio; second, Laurie Carman; third, Aaron Cox; fourth, Darrin Helvig; fifth, Scott Noe; sixth, Brad Stevens; seventh, Shane Sullivan; eighth, Joey Fleck; and ninth, Carl Sandell. Congratulations to all of you, especially to the first and second place winner. If you didn’t notice, they are women. This is a first. To all you ladies who play cards and say you are intimated to play with the guys, let this be a lesson to you. Come on down and give it a try. Players, remember that for the Sunday, December 11 game, you don’t need to come so early as all you have to do is check in and remember you have to have your paid up Eagles card to play. If you don’t have a card, there is no refund. Thanks again to all the crew members who are there so you can play cards. See you soon. — Bob Reynolds (253) 535-6706 or (253) 230-2308

RV’ers to celebrate the holidays Dec. 6! October found the gang over at the canal enjoying the last few days of fall sunshine and lots of oysters. Again we had a great time as we always enjoy getting together. We had one last trip scheduled for the year down in Centralia at the Midway RV Resort on November 17-20. We were busy doing some early Christmas shopping, sightseeing and checking out the Lucky Eagle Casino. Tuesday, December 6 is our annual Christmas Party for all our RV club members. We will be having a delightful potluck and raffle for poinsettias and other gifts. We want to extend our wishes to all our Brothers and Sisters for a wonderful Christmas holiday season. We hope that you will think of possibly joining us in the upcoming year and check us out. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how much fun we have together. Remember that our monthly meeting is held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. upstairs above the kitchen. —Sheron Mozzone, Secretary

Thank you all for a wonderful party! Dear Eagles, One evening while I was at the Eagles I decided to have a surprise 87th birthday party for my mother, Wanda (Cozad) Dickmeyer. I met with Manager Loni Andrews. She escorted me to the meeting room and discussed several options for its use. Loni reserved the room and was very helpful with the plans. Loni followed through with each step and organization. Linda Miller did a wonderful job preparing the food, serving and keeping the party on schedule. She was extremely pleasant, calm and efficient. The bartender, Jenny Greely, did a very professional job serving beverages and provided a cheerful environment. Marcia McNall assisted with the decorations, hosting and organization before and afterwards. She made the party uncomplicated, tasteful and entertaining. The party was a huge success on November 6. There were about 60 guests. They all raved with compliments about the room, food and staff. My mother was so pleased! She has been very happy and energetic since. Thank you Eagles and staff for everything you did to make this day so special for Wanda, her family and guests. — Sincerely, Teresa Cozad -6-
